Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Whats YOUR biggest problem?

my area is waaaaaaaaaay to diverse, so it makes it insanely hard to plan against any 1 thing.

Am I the only one who thinks that a diverse metagame is a GOOD thing?

Hmm... as for me... my one biggest problem... not looking at the entire field of play before committing to an action. *coughDrake'sStadiumcough* My biggest gripe... people who blame all their losses solely on poor circumstances rather than crediting their opponents with playing well. Spirit of the game, anyone?

One thing you have to keep in mind, though, are the implications in so-called "sour grape" reports. For example...

What a person says: "I got so unlucky"

-Since this is one person's report, you're gonna get this one-sided view no matter what. It's only natural, and quite often that's the truth.

What a person means: "I played so subtly bad or made a poor deck choice that my opponent capitalized on it."

OR

"I had an abnormally poor start, and unfortunately, my opponent wasn't inexperienced/sloppy enough to blow his or her win."

-100% of the time, a player means only one or the other.

While an implication is certainly not a compliment, it's certainly better than the one dimensional view of the post. After an "illegitimate" loss, it's only natural for players to begrudgingly admit to, or to outright ignore, the quality of their opponents who beat them. But yeah, great point. :)

The fact is that Luxatos is right, no two ways about it. Maybe your start was as bad as you say, but who cares? It does absolutely no good to complain about your setup. You can't change the past, and whining about it only makes you feel better for a couple hours before you either shake it off or complain some more. Nobody else cares. It took me three years to learn that lesson, but it finally made it through my thick skull. I haven't looked at the game the same way since.

I don't like the 50% heads I win FTKO that could infest the current environment. I didn't much care for the 25% FTKO that we had during the NEO genesis period either. Still thats just a problem that I have to deal with - the metagame is beyond my control.

[That and I'm just not a strong competative player right now - too much effort invested in organising and judging. So the play side has to slide. Makes me a grumpy loser too which is definately not good! Past glories are well in the past now LOL I have to get over it, but the desire to win is strong, even if the necessary skills are a bit lacking right now.]

My biggest problem is that my league is a 75-mile round trip every Saturday. (It would be shorter, but the state is taking its sweet time with certain construction projects. Grrrrrrrrrr.)

Long story how I got roped into co-leading a league so far away, but suffice it to say that I love this particular group and would probably drive farther to stay with them, despite the fact that there is another league literally right up the street from me. Even so, gasoline is not exactly cheap at the moment, and it's only going up.

Oh, the sacrifices you make so kids can have fun.

There are plenty of attractive people, both male and female, who play pokemon. If you can't find a girl you like in the pokemon scene, find a girl elsewhere and teach her how to play. When I started playing again at the beginning of last season, I taught my fiancé how to play and we traveled all over together and had a great time.

Hey, im joking! I have a girlfriend... (And i teach her how to play )

I only see 3 girls playing TCG, but boys are the majority

Before I say this I want to clarify that this is not directed towards any one person or group of people, so don't think of my post as a cry of jealousy or anger, but rather just a simple observation.

My biggest problem is the overt team mentality that has gripped this forum for the past year or so. Don't get me wrong, I think teams are a good idea, and a lot of my friends are on teams. However, it seems that every time a new series of tournaments start, there's always a "secret deck" that people talk about. Ambush, Love Letter, TRUKTRUKTRUK, Destiny... the list goes on and on to the point of nausea. After so much of this stuff, I then start seeing responses such as this one that was posted in the Battle Roads Tournament section:

The tournament reports are garbage because all they say is my pickup TRUK smashed him t2. That doesnt mean anything to anyone. Thats like me saying I won with my Iron Curtain deck. He was playing Shower curtain and he lost turn 2. A bunch of nonsense. No one knows what your'e talking about.

Im just voicing my opinion because i want to learn. I am not learning anything because of all the garbage posts lately. This is the online community for Pokemon where ideas and strategies are discussed and developed not where you brag how awesome you and your buddies with their TRUKs are. I may be wrong. Who cares anyway? I'm over it.

It makes me sad to think that this forum doesn't do a good job in teaching less-experienced players something. While I think that galonso's perception of things is a bit exaggerated, I still see the point. New players who visit the PokeGym will probably hear all about the secret decks or "elite" teams. This attracts attention, and when nothing can be found out about the deck in secrecy, the new player gets frustrated. I recently tried to help a player out by suggesting they visit PokeGym for some deck ideas. The player responded by saying that it didn't matter because they'll never have a deck as good as the ones that the best players use. No matter how much help I tried to give, he was convinced that his deck was horrible and that he would never get his hands on a decent list.

After all of the secrecy, we end up with threads like this. Poor Pinsir52 just wanted to know what the TRUK engine was, and he basically got an entire thread full of lies and spam.

Then there are the teams and/or decks that are mentioned over and over again. No offense to KingGengar, but why another thread about Mario? Yeah, I know you love it, but I understood that a long time ago when you posted your list online. And if you posted that thread in response to something other people were doing, then it just proves the point that all of this "talk" is getting repetitive. And when it's all said and done, what we end up having is a whole thread that is currently being "battled out" between one group of players and another.

People just seem to be asking for attention:

I have problems with certain "clans" who think their player base is so amazing because they've won some tournaments. I would start mentioning names, but that would be a waste of my breath.
Lafonte
Team R
HB

you're welcome!

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

p.s. hey kant u wanna b in mah clan?
Not only those Rambo...I'm talking people as well.
Ryan "CryMyselfToSleep" Vergel
Bobby "SeniorDivision" Malec (ESPECIALLY THIS KID)
Kant "Turtwig" Shen
Chad "Pedobear" Harris
Michael "Walrein" Pramawat
Zach "The Ace" Fisher
Christian "Heads" Bianchi
Alex "Candlejack" Hill

You're welc
Funny thing....you didn't mention a single person I had in mind. Some of them aren't on clans either.

I mean, I like the fellows in Team R, but I don't have to be reminded about who they are or that they're great.

---------------------------------------------

All of that said, it pays off to show a bit of humility. If you know something that other players don't, then share it. Otherwise, it gets pretty annoying to hear the same comments over and over again about how a "true X list" always beats Y when only a few people know the "true" list. It's also painful to watch entire groups of people set their mind to belittling other teams or players by talking about things that only they know about or flaunting some awesome performance with a deck. Again, this applies to a bunch of people, so don't think that I'm singling out just one team or person.

That's all.

...and then there's the smaller teams, who don't talk about them selfs at all (self referring), yet do well.
That's BORING. I'd rather have it rubbed into my face, instead of not hearing about it at all.
It CAN get a bit too much sometimes, but whatever. I don't get why some (you know who you are) care so much about it. You know who posts in certain threads, if you don't like it, DON'T READ IT!
Some people come to the threads, just to read it quickly, then BASH BASH BASH.
THAT'S disgusting, rather than not showing lists or talk about which pkmns that are used.

Eriknance just won the thread. No doubt.

Anyways, lately(I mean for a year) almost all discussions about decks, problems, players etc. have turned into a SD or "Team we pwn ya all n00bs" discussions. Well, that's understandable but as eriknance said when a new players wants to know about new decks and wants to improve their own playing and he asks for help all he gets is: "make your own decks". People can't improve if noone helps them to improve.

When a player wants to help new players with a great article like this: http://pokegym.net/forums/showthread.php?t=61688 the writer gets a pile of crap on him. They aren't the only and the only one deck lists. The article wasn't made to players who already know what kind of varients does Blissey have and already have their own "the best" lists. It's a great article which informs new players who don't get help from "the elite".

Everyone has been beginners. If you remeber what it was like when you were a new player you should understand how they feel about bashing and joking around when they are serious. I was a total noob at Worlds 2004 and only with help of more skilled players and with my own interest I've become a skilled player. People who bash beginners and don't offer their help, kill beginners' ambition for the game. Ambition for succes is the key for being a good player and all experienced players know that. They should remember it also when they begin to treat beginners like they do.

So that was the biggest problem. But I have an other one which has also been stated in this thread.

The small card pool. As few already said there aren't enough options for a deck. It's Blissey+this or Blissey+that or just plain old Archetypes like Infernape, Mario(and yes it's a deck) etc. Fortunately DP3 and DP4 has sooo many good cards that will break the game many times and make the metagame more diverse. That's where the fun starts. And when BRs K-value isn't high I don't find it as a problem,if Cities are held late enough.

That's for it tonight.

pokebeach guy being a stickler! and not showing us the secret wonders scans even though he has them. says he has too much work but im sure that someone else could put the scans up for him.
