Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

SW impressions

Banette is esentially the best card in this set. Sure Ampharos is good, but he can't make his own deck.
Bany swings T2 for up to Eighty. If they KO you, you hit them for eighty with the next Banette.

Theres soo many good cards in this set, espically for basic/rush decks. A lot, and I mean ALOT, of new starters are now available thanks to SW.

^Word. Absol, Spinda, Corsola, Farfetch'd, Stantler...the list goes on! And most of those help out Stage 2 decks A LOT.

I think Banette and Electrode will see SO much action....I know I already have decks made for them as we speak!!!!

Gardy is broken! Pichu bros. rox got one out late game towards the end when I had 3 Prizes left, he had 6. It uses 2 Energy to OHKO any of my 4 Rampardos that I managed to get out! I was being destroyed! Until I used a Cranidos to Steam Roll a Gallade he instantly candied to. I had a Rampardos with 120 HP, he had a Gardy X with 60 HP, and a Gallade on the bench with 110HP. He uses put down, thinking he won. But he just lost the game because he KO's his Gallade, and I drew a DRE prized, Hasty Headbutt FTW.

well then you lost cuz if i am correct doesn't Gardy ex KO the pokemon with the lowest remaining Hp ie Koing his Gardy sending up a fully powered Gallade.....

Gardy Lv.x is insanly good. Who cares if it's your pkmn to? It's very easy to make sure that one of their pkmn has more dmg. than one of yours. And Gardy SW's power makes it very fast. TRUST ME, when you get to use TWO supporters a turn, it's almost as good as the holon engin.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

meditite rox, I have 2 things to say

Right now, Asol ex FTW!!!

When DP4 comes out, Cressalia Lv.x FTW!!!

Trust me on this one, Cressalia Lv.x works WAY to well with Gardy Lv.x.

Electivire hasn't been mentioned. I think it's infinitely better than DP, with a rockin' Power, and a nice, if flippy, attack. Makes VireX excellent now.

Electrode - broken! Can you say "sudden death?"

Farfetch'd - evolve or die.

Spinda - oh, you have DRE attached? I do 40 damage.

Lugia - 20, remove energy. 20, remove energy. 120, remove Defending Pokemon.

Breloom - Psychic dominant? Not with Phoebe's Stadium!

Mothim - Silver Wind, free retreat, bring up something else for +30, OR attack Mothim and it does 100.

Cloyster - Speed Spread returns!

This set is really good. The art is getting so much better with each set.

Smeargle + Ho-Oh = the NUTZ. Thin energy out of your deck all day and plop them onto Ho-Oh, and then it never dies! I'm really interested to see how it plays out in constructed.

I'm really interested to see how Wormadam/Mothim plays out. Plant Cloak Wormadam is just awesome! 120 HP and 60 damage on T2 with auto-confuse?!? Mothim isn't bad either.

Other cards that I thought were pretty good:
-Spinda. 40 for 1?
-Roseanne's Research. Never a dead card.
-Quagsire. Healing 30 a turn is really nice. But it's fairly situational.
-Breloom. 100 HP on a stage 1 and an attack that heals!
I mentioned that like weeks ago and basically what I got in reply was "lol, fail"

i think this set is good, about the level of dp1, but not quite as good as mt. the strength of most of the pokemon is to strengthen/support already existing decks, with gardevoir/gallade being the only archetype.

the trainers were a mixed bag, the ones that are good are great, but reprints of rival and rowan leave something to be desired.

*just from my prerelease experience*

Roseanne's Research pwns, and will be a big impact in the game.

Stantler pwns as a starter for thr prerelease at least. Believe it or not, I got 2 Roseanne's Research and Bebe's along with 2 Rival, and Stantler was almost able to ensure my victory since I could draw those cards.

Farfetch'd is fun to use; throw an energy onto him, use Swords Dance, then KO whatever basic they have out. Sadly, not going to work in the usual game.

Breloom hurts (lost a match cause of it).

Dugtrio is funky, but potentially devastating with his second attack.

And oddly enough, Honchkrow Lv X seems to be a more rare Lv X than Gardevoir, at least today at our prerelease; about 3-5 Gardy Lv Xs were pulled, but no Honchkrow Lv X.

wats funny is at our 5 ppl pulled Honckrow Lv.x and only one person pulled Gardy ex yah i like this set a lot Roseanne's is gr8 I really like Oak's visit!!

i dont understand. if gardy lv x kos a pokemon, cresselia lv x wont be able to ko it. how do they work well together?

It's more of a tech in the deck.

You don't use it so much as an attacker, but more for it's power. With Gardy lv.x teleportation, it's easy to lv.up, then you use it's power to make sure you can always ko one of your opponents pkmn with Gardy Lv.x.

Also if you are useing Gardy lv.x, you probably have at least 1 Gallade, which is just about the perfect partner for Cressalia lv.x.

Something I notice is that, to me at least, the sets really build on each other. What is bad in one set becomes spectacular with the release of a card, or cards in a new set. I like that, it makes it very interesting. I do think that some cards in SW can add NEW elements game, like Garde/llade, Ampharos, Blastoise, and some others. I think this is a 'building' set. The next one will probably combo well with what is in this one, and in past ones.

I was kind of disappointed with the Trainers as well. Why Bebe's? Right after you just released it in the last set? Why Rival? No, seriously, WHY RIVAL? Anyways, this does lead me to think that SW may be a cut-off point for Modified in the future (don't really know how that would work, but okay).

^It's quite possible that they tried to make this set with the prerelease and other limited events in mind. Trainers get played in limited decks REGARDLESS of what it is.

Upon further review...Golem seems pretty cool. It'll definitely be playable if Amphy/x decks or Trode/Vire catch on. Potion and Buffer Piece FTW!
