Holon mentor or roseanas research?

now that that card is out I dont really see holon mentor getting much play.
you dont have to discard a card, the basic pokemon arnt limited to having 100 hp or less and you have the option of grabing energy if you need them. I think this card is gonna be a staple in most decks.

that and dual ball could be castforms savior.

without holon's voltorb you can't mantor an energy, so rosanas research could be better in that respect.

I can see metor seeing play in the future in decks that like to discard cards like infercatty and blissey. In T2 decks the pokeball engine is the way to go. In any other deck Roseanas reaserch is the choice to make.

3 has always been greater than 2.

Roseanne's can get energy while mentor can't. Thats huge. Holon's Voltorb and Magnemite were staples in all decks last format, because mentorable energy was often needed. Roseanne's is the play. It's too good.

Roseanne Roseanna Dan O' (SNL)

Mentor getting 3 basics will be useful in setup decks but I feel Roseanne's Research will be the play in every other deck.

I'll also agree that it depends on what deck you play. If you're using some sort of Ball engine, Roseanne's compliments it better I'd think, since you can also search out energy with it. For some other decks though, you might need/want that extra Pokemon on the bench or not have a Ball engine, which would make Mentor the pick.

Either way, Mentor is gone next season, Roseanne isn't. So Roseanne > Mentor if you don't have Mentor for some reason by now.

He beat me to it. Roseanne's is TOO good to pass up. Mentor's cool and all, but Roseanne being able to pull energy makes it the play over Mentor in just about any deck.

Roseanna is th best, and Mentor is only for decks playing babies (like Elekid - Electabuzz) now, IMO.

It's hard to imagine a deck that won't run three or four Roseanne's. Mentor and Mr. Stone in one card, and you can pick the best option based on your game situation. A new staple card, for sure.

You ALWAYS want either pokemon or energy, unless you've finished setting up (which almost never happens. There will always be a sudden knockout requiring you to replace energy or basic pokemon. :/)

Do you ALWAYS want to discard a card and find 3 basic pokemon, as opposed to finding energy? Not always. Therefore, Roseanne's Research is always going to be more universally useful then Holon Mentor.

That being said, several decks (Blissey, Typholosion, Bannette, Electivire, etc.) will indeed benefit most from a healthy blend of the two cards. The ideal mix however seems to be 3-4 Roseannes and 2-3 Holon Mentor. :/

No deck has room (or need) for 5-7 basic searcher cards.

You're killin' me.

Blissey doesn't have room? Sure it doesn't.

And most decks have room for ~5 searcher cards, especially when they double as your energy searchers. :/

Do we even need this thread? I mean, anyone w half a brain would know that R's research is better in most occasions.

I have to disagree, Mentor gets 3. With the rapid pace of this game, your going to need all the pokemon you can get.

Roseane's is very good, but Mentor is still the play IMHO. I'm going to play a mix of about 2-1 (Mentor-Roseasne)

I'm in love with Roseane, but it is completely dependent on the deck. You cannot just say one is better than the other without taking into consideration the deck they are going in. Mentor still has its place.
