Dragonite EX

Hey,

Ever since the new format came up EX pokemon has kinda been left at bay. However, I still believe that there are some EX cards which can still come in useful.

My dilemma starts with this card. Dragonite Ex from DF. It is i think a really good card by itself but I don't really know how it can fit in in the new format. Personally, I've played it wrongly a couple of times. Pls help! Thanks!

I don't think dragonite will be good because it never was good especialy its first attack doesn't stop stadiums anymore. If you do want to play it play it with altaria ex or flygon d.

It DOES stop stadiums.

Draggy ex is a pre-DP card, therefore it does not know the difference. It stops to whole kit-and kabutops(ignore my bad pun), It stops everything cept supporters.

One of the problems that Draggy faces is the fact that its got one heck of a crappy basic. That, and being a stage-2-Ex doesn't help it. On the flipside, its attack is good against the likes of Blissey, Kricketune and Banette, if you can get him fast enough.

Yea I seen someone playing it with Xatu δ,which wasnt bad since it add 20-30 most of the time and had it with Fearow δ and it worked. You should try that line up

4-2-4 Dragonite δ Ex
3-3 Xatu δ
2-2 Fearow δ
1 Rayquaza δ Ex

it works well.

the xatu would only power up dragonies first attack though because his second does damage counters.
but 2 for 60-70 and stoping trainers is really nice.

I don't see that working so well since Dragon Roar, his useful attack only lays counters. It does no "damage", so Xatu gives that attack no type of boost. It would not be worth the bench space just to boost up Deafen's power.

50-70 and block trainer isnt worth it???Its not supposed to work with Dragon Roar, the focus of the deck isnt to use Dragon Roar its to BLOCK TRAINERS.Your soften them up then you use Dragon Roar as a finisher.

2 Xatu+1Fearow+Dragonite active only three on the bench, your doing 60 and still blocking trainers is not bad, then spread later. Thats why you play with Cyclone NRG and keep switch to setup mutliple KOs.Then on the bench you have room to setup another Dragonite.

It works. You could even have a Castform start but the Dratini start dosent bad at all.

The problem with the Dratini start is that it could cost you the game T1 or T2. Leek Slap or even a Rilou Wild Kick + either a Plus Power or a Strength Charm and it's all over.

Thats mostly with any setup you have if a colorless is being played, you just have to learn to take that risk. Just cause your weak to something makes no sense why you shouldnt play it,Lucario is everywhere but people still play Silly Egg Ballon(Blissey)

It's not the colorless that does it. Dratini has no weakness. It's the 40 HP & the fact that you have DP Pokemon doing 40 damage T1 or T2. Chansy ... heck even Happny isn't going to go down to a Rilou wild kick in one turn. Dratini might.

My favorite deck last year was a modified Dragonite ex d build. Trainer lock is even more powerful in this format than last. However even with all that I've yet to see or think of a build that I would be comforatable running this season.

Exs arent that good this year. R-Gon in BRs was fine, but since the release of the new set, even that is dying out.

The build I posted I dont even like, but I would be able to play it efficently. Dragonite δ with Xatu isnt bad,but by itself isnt bad either with major disruption.Castform start is the best route with techs. Really I just rather play the Dp cards mostly.

The problem with this deck is acceleration. However, it may not be that bad with Altaria EX + Roseanne's. But Draggy is just too slow with Blissey and Gallade.(Automatic bring back to 50? Not good.)

A guy at my league played Draggy ex+crystal beach just to counter my Infernape deck. Did pretty good. Another guy at league plays it with MT Eggs to boost it faster, but I usually beat him. I'd say either Xatuδ or Altaria exδ, with fearow.

The problem with Exs this format is that there's too much non-ex pokemons running wild. U (ex) gets only 1 prize for KOing non-exs, but they take 2 per ex killed. That isnt gonna win you lots of games.

If you use an EX he needs to be a game changer.

Having no weakness and 150 HP is not a game changer?
Being able to shut off all non-supporters is not a game changer?
Knocking out potentially all of your opponent's pokemon at once is not a game changer (it'll be difficult, but Ambush could do it :/)?

It's just the Gallades that are scary. At least Flygon EX d can drop a Lake Boundary then OHKO those annoying things (or even just get two pluspowers/damage counters left on the Gallade). What can Dragonite do to prevent them from being a headache? Set two up at once then just Super Scoop Up to pull damage off? Doesn't sound plausible quickly enough. Play Sunflora (...Yikes) to heal them? It's a bit more plausible, but might not work due to only healing during your turn (as opposed to inbetween turns, which would remove 2 damage counters off Dragonite rather then 1).

That's mostly the problem with Dragonite. It's a beefy card. It can do some game breaking effects. But it also needs help to either get out really fast (which requires Altaria who's colorless weak and another crappy basic) or have a billion cards to help keep it alive (too much effort, me thinks. Unless you LIKE to throw Potions into your deck for some random reason)
