Ampharos combos

I was playing around with deck ideas for my kids and it so happened that we had two SW Ampharos and one DF Ampharos delta. It occured to me that there had to be some way to abuse having both of those in a deck.

I tried out 3 Gatr d + the 2/1 Ampharos ... IMHO it was a bit too slow for masters level play but it was effective and interesting. Gatr d is fine by himself and can do some damage spread & disuption with his first attack. Getting an SW Ampharos on the bench helps with the spread ... and if you can get both types of Ampharos built and a Gatr d or two then the whole thing really kicks into gear. Amphy dealing 80 to 100 damage (or more with Str Charm / PP) after doing some spread is really nice. What I liked was that you really didn't have to have the full combo going to be effective. Having either Gatr or Ampharos alone was enough to do well ... haivng both was like having an overdrive setting or something. Additional bonuses were that the deck was mono energy (always a plus with Juniors decks IMHO) and that Gatr d & Amphy have different weaknesses. I really wish that I could make this work for a Masters level deck because it was fun testing it out.

Another idea I had, that I haven't tested yet, was Ampharos + Pidgeot. You run one of the delta of each. You can shut down all powers & Ampy d will make your own Amphy SW immune. Still a bit slow considering two stage 2s ... but I like the theory.

Decks I did try included Magmortar SW + Ampharos & Dodrio + Ampharos. Both of these were interesting and the idea was to spread damage before going into cleanup mode. Of the two combos I liked the Dodrio one better because the energy requirements were similar and I could abuse Boost energy.

Has anyone else found any fun Ampharos combos or have thoughs on how to improve the ones I tried?

Ampharos Flygon. Turning all your pokemon delta means delta supply to anyone, as well as Fearow saerching. Vibrava spreads damage and your opponent using supporters is salt in the wound. Flygon ex d sweeps the rest of the field, cleaning the game up.

Good ideas! I could definitely see someone teching a delta Ampharos into an Ampharos deck. You could even run Holon Adventurer to draw 4 after you discard any pokemon (thanks to Ampharos d).

I really like Ampharos. It's poke-body is really powerful and if Ampharos got out early, it'd be very hard to clear the damage on the opponent's pokemon.

For your idea with Pidgeot. Pidgeot d only shuts off poke-powers, I believe, so it wouldn't affect Ampharos anyways.

I like the idea with Pidgeot but it's two stage 2's with no way to help get setup. Maybe when Phione (DP4) comes out, that can evolve your bench T1, the idea can have a better chance of doing well. Throw in the Pach(DP4)...that acts like Dunsparce and you could have a decent deck.

I've thought about Absol SW early game starter with Absol ex to move the damage counters and Jolteon* to lay extra damage counters. It might work decently.

Good thread!

The problem with Absol as a starter with Ampharos is that you are discarding their supporters & that actually slows down the damage spread. Good catch on the Power vs Body thing ... I keep thinking that it's a power for some reason.

Flygon looks good in theory as well, but I'm with Prime here ... two stage twos is really hard right now. Though I did see that someone used an Ampharos and Dragonite ex deck at a City and did well with it. That's a solid combo too. Trainer lock forces them to use supporters and take damage. Then you clean with Dragon Roar.

I was actually also thinking about Absol with Amphy...but it's really dependent on getting an Amphy out ASAP. The idea behind it is that they either use their supporter and take the damage, or they lose the supporter.

The first thought I had when I saw Ampharos (SW) was that it would spread damage well with Flygon Ex d's or Absol Ex's Psychic Pulse attack. In a Flygon deck I would probably use it as a 1-0-1 tech line. With Absol Ex though, you could use it as the main attacker with Absol Ex coming in mid to late game to apply more pressure along with being able to move damage around. Weavile (SW) could possibly be used to power up Amphy with 2 Special Dark to bump it's damage up by turning it Dark. You will then have to discard just the Lighting each turn. With Castaway, Roseanne's, and even something like Plusle (SW) or Pichu/Pikachu (MT) )to retrieve the energy's you are discarding.

You could tech it into a Flygon ex d deck decently since there is a delta Mareep. Decent idea.

You can play it with exegcutor d. When you have ampharos d out and 5 pokemon on your bench you can do 70 damage and spread damage with his second attack.

Dragonite EX d with Ampharos runs great with Absol. Dragonite as a main attacker, and Amphy SW to damage you if you play supporters. I ran it this weekend at both cities tourneys I played (in masters division) and pulled out a 4th place with it.

I tried a Speed Amphy earlier. Absol ex+Ray ex df+Jolteon* etc. Basically Destiny with Ampharos. Used Ampharos for power, never for attack. 2-1-2 line worked ok. Maybe something like Electivire?? dunno. @_@ Wait until DP4.

Royality tech is what its good for.

4-3-2-2-1 Flygon δ Ex/Flygon δ/Flygon SW(Tranpich SW/Virbava SW)
2-1-2 Ampharos SW
3 Absol Ex
1 Rayquaza δ Ex
1 Jolteon *

that worked pretty good since you mostly started with Tranpich and just spread with brava, but you should leave him active until he dies to get the full effect of it.Move and Ko mutplies with absol and Ampharaos for supporter spread.

Ampharos caught my eye as well. By itself it looks like a great card...damage every time your opponent plays a supporter (which is normally every turn in this day and age, right?), and its attack can spread damage as well.

Almost makes me wish I could use the Gyarados from DX.
