Smeargle force a look at opponent's hand?

This is essentially an argument about when the hand is or isn't private, and thus whether you can fail a hand search. There currently is no meta-ruling about this, although the current EngAdj/Portrait ruling would indicate it isn't private. Either: 1) this ruling needs to be revisited and...

Smeargle force a look at opponent's hand?

I was saying that you aren't playing Engineer's Adjustments in this case. If you were, then in the act of playing you are also making a public claim that you have an energy card to discard, and would have to do so. In the same way, using Roast Reveal is also making a public claim that you have...

Smeargle force a look at opponent's hand?

You can use a power for no effect, it's just playing cards from your hand where the no-effect meta-rule comes into play. My ruling would be: You can't play Engineer's Adjustments (as a supporter from your own hand) if you don't also have an energy to discard. But using Portrait is not the...

Legend Box finding a Legend and 8 energies

If a player uses Legend Box and reveals 2 halves of a Legend along with 8 Energy cards, do they have to/can they shuffle their deck afterward? Only similar ruling I've found is for Quick Ball: The wording on Quick Ball and Legend Box are similar enough to make me think there wouldn't be a...

The best idea Pokemon Intl should do.

Oh, that's just a throwback to Base Set, which numbered Pokedex after Pokemon Center and Pokemon Flute.

The Cards the metagame is missing...

My opinion on the first point: they totally should not reprint Gust of Wind. (I know, no point whinging about it since it's coming anyway.) It's always been a game-changer with no down-side and very difficult to play around, especially for decks that rely on combos. I would have readily...

    Tangrowth/Illumise Deck

Lost World only works with Pokemon, not energy. That said, I personally prefer Jumpluff as a big attacker over Tangrowth, but they both have merits. Tangrowth just needs more energy and thus more turns to set up, even though it is a Stage 1 instead of a Stage 2. Just something to consider.

    Zoroark and previous attack-copying rulings

I noticed there was a new ruling regarding copying attacks that discard energy, specifically Zoroark doing so. Previous rulings said that if an attack says "discard X energy" then it was a required discard, and the attack would do nothing if the energy couldn't be discarded. Are these previous...

Another potentially bad idea from me

It's an interesting idea, but unfortunately there's no great way to get the energies in play to begin with. Possibilities might include Lugia Legend, Salamence, the non-Prime Ampharos (need a L or rainbow energy for that) or SF Drifblim (probably the best bet... you can also search for...

    Spread donk viable?

The only errata was that the card says "you MAY flip a coin" but it actually isn't optional, you have to do it whenever you attach a basic energy from your hand. You can find all erratas in the Compendium.

    Funnest deck to play?

I'm always looking for ways to make Cradily/Cherrim playable. My current iteration of it unfortunately needs Dialga G because of all the trainer lock out there, and it's just really clunky with that in there. But it's really good once it gets set up (with Dialga Poke-turned, of course).

    Rhyperior for Regionals

It might seem silly to mention this (it may be obvious), but Expert Belt holds added bonuses for Rhyperior. It increases the potential damage of Raging Drill by 40, and increases the chances of KOing something with Deep Scrap for the mill. I personally don't use Delcatty in my Rhyperior; it...

Dialga G LvX Time Crystal vs Rampardos's Iron Skull

Iron Skull says that damage isn't affected by the effects that are present on the Defending Pokemon. (i.e. special Metal Energy, Defender, Cloudy Sky, etc.) Things like PlusPower, Black Belt, and Expert Belt are effects on the attacking Pokemon and don't get canceled by Iron Skull. Back to the...

Draw 2 Cards! - From Bill to Uxie

Great article! Just a few counterpoints I'd like to make: You keep comparing more recent cards with the original Professor Oak, but there's a flaw in that comparison. Yes, they all get you a new hand, but Professor Oak discarded your hand, meaning you couldn't get those cards back in your new...

    Best and Worst Art

The first card I really said "I don't like that art" on was Oddish from Genesis. One of my favorites was one I used in a deck for a while... I love the look of Dark Charizard. There might have been better or worse art in the years since those were released, but I think they're still notable...
