Based on the names of the other Eeveelutions (Jolteon, Vaporeon, Flareon, etc.) the first half of the name Jolt, Vapor, Flare, etc. gives some indication to the type. So, I looked up what Sylv might mean and Wikipedia came to the rescue. If Leafeon didn't already exist, I would guess Grass...
