Alakazam and Tyranitar!

I have a theoretical idea for a strategy but I wanted to ask here first.

My friend, just starting out, picked up the Tyranitar SF theme deck. I was trying to think of a decent support pokemon to pair with it and thought about Alakazam MT. I just wanted to make sure it was legal first, however.

Tyranitar SF has a pokebody, Darkness Drive, that says:
After your opponent's Pokémon uses a Poké-Power, you may search your discard pile for a basic :dark: Energy and attach it to Tyranitar.

Alakazam MT has a poke-power, Power Cancel, that says:
Once during your opponent's turn, when your opponent's Pokémon uses any Poké-Power, you may discard 2 cards from your hand and prevent all effects of that Poké-Power. (This counts as that Pokémon using its Poké-Power.) This power can't be used if Alakazam is affected by a Special Condition.

So theoretically, if you blocked a power with Alakazam, had no basic darks in your discard, but chose to discard a basic dark and another card, could you then attach that basic dark as a result of Tyranitar SF's poke-body? Or would Tyranitar's pokebody do the check first then you would discard? My theory was that it would work since during Alakazam's power you're resolving the action and the power's not technically finished. However, if I'm wrong, I'd really appreciate being set straight.

Thanks!
