13-1 Weekend with Vilegar - Double Report

So, the set-up. I don't usually stick with a deck through events, preferring to try my hand at different kinds of decks and gain better experience. But i have such a hatred for Power Spray, and got 3rd and 2nd in the two CC's i stuck around for with Vilegar. So i figure I'll stick with it for Saturday when I head up without the normal crew. I replace the 1-1-1 Magnezone Prime tech i played last for a 1-1 Mewtwo line and an extra bebe's because i know that SP is the play at this small tournmanet (18 masters or something, weeded out to 15 at the end). I forget to take out the Rainbows i tech for Zone build and turn in my list. lol.

Round 1 vs:
I got the bye. I'm okay with this. This allows me to skip the "random" round, where a bunch of T-Tar, umbreon and Absol are kicking around. I get to skip right tot he action of the 1-0's.
1-0

Round 2 vs Chris B w/LuxChomp
Chris' a cool guy and he doesn't play a Mewtwo counter. We start an epic game of tp decking, getting DCE's, Collectors, Bebe's, Garchomp C X and Vileplume off bad hands. When i get Two out after getting Vileplume up, he just doesn't have enough to make a comeback. This was a rather relaxed game and a very nice first round.
2-0

Round 3 vs Chris S w/"SmackChomp"
This was funny. I knew he had run Dialga G X at some point so while I do get a quick mewtwo with Rescue energy attacched, he comments on how he took out his Mewtwo counter. I get Uxie off my bench with Psychic Restore and have Mewtwo and 3 bench to his 4 prizes. I tell him i won't be benching another Pokemon for the game and he scoops to me, who hadn't yet taken a prize xD
3-0

Round 4 vs Jacob w/Garchomp C Toolbox
I know he runs Honchkrow and Roserade GL, so his VIlegar match-up isn't terrible. We're yakking beforehand and i tell him he's going to start Dragonite FB to my SPiritomb and I'll roll him. We laugh. We flip over: Dragonite FB to Spiritomb. lol I turn 3 Poltergiest for 120 and game.
4-0

Round 5 vs Linda w/Rhyperrior Delcatty
A Pokemom from my league who's very personable and not a bad player either ^-^ I can't believe i forget her name, but i haven't been to league in ever so forgive me. Anyway, i start setting up Gengar SFs while she gets Rhyperior going, very slowly. I have a Spiritomb u[ with 50 damage and i'm two cards away from my ideal set-up, while shes build her field behind an active Rhydon. I make a risky play and attach Rainbow, kill my own Tomb and use Twins to complete the set-up. Bam. I manage to ready 2 Gengar, one with Rescue Energy and go to work hitting the benched randoms. She kills my first Gengar and I miss the fainting spell, but then can level down her Rhyperior and kill Delcatty in one turn. Shes rather crippled for a while, but gets it back when we're 4-2 and kills me again, no fainting spell. I barely manage to take down 1 more benched as she again KOs my active (Gengar Prime, no FS), but i set up the last kill with level down Poletergiest. Badabing, only undefeated.
5-0

So i'm first seed, going intot he final 4 with the 4-1 pair (Jacob and Chris B). A 3-2 manages to make it too, and low and behold its Chris S. I've got a very familiar Top 4 ahead xD

Top 4 vs Chris S w/"Smackchomp"
Game 1:
First search of the game i see i have 1-1 Mewtwo prized.
I kinda just laugh sadly and start setting up other stuff.
:nonono:

So i get Azelf, take Mewtwo, bench him with a Rescue and start setting up. Two turns later he kills it with Crobat G/Garchomp C X. It comes back, i send up Gengar Prime and put 3 damage counters on his Uxie and 1 on his Smeargle. next turn i do it again, 4 on Uxie and take Mewtwo X prize. He can't snipe my Mewtwo this time and I get it up and he scoops.

Game 2:
No such prize heartache, i aggro for Recover Mewtwo and he scoops. Not the best way to win, but that's why i put it in the deck, to punish those without a counter.
6-0

Top 2 vs Jacob W/Garchomp C Toolbox
I really wanted Jacob to lose in Top 4 so i could Mewtwo steamroll again xD But so be it, i have ways of countering his counter..

Game 1:
I start Gastly, he has Ambipom and gets Crobat G and Dce and hits me for 40. i was like 0-o. I manage to set-up, but its a little weaker with my first Gengar being damaged. He rushes for Krow and with his Ambipom killing things left right and center I have to rely on double SF Gengar action. I hit the bench, he kills, tails on fainting spell. Recover energy it back. I re-evolve it all and use the other SF gar for a prize off the bench. he kills it, FS tails. Rinse lather and repeat, and then I scoop for more time to play out the next games.

Game 2:
I decide to get Gengar parts up, then get an equally quick Vileplume with Twins support. I have a Haunter with a rescue energy when he grabs his Murkrow with Collector. His bench is full. My turn i evolve to Gengar prime and lost zone his Murkorw. Next turn i lost zone 1 of his Garchomp C X's. He has Azelf active, Bebe's for his 2nd Garchomp C X and Locks up. Then he realizes he just gave me the ability to Lost Zone his other Garchomp and scoops.

Game 3:
We both set-up normally for our decks, though I am constantly keeping his Krow at bay by not killing things on his bench. I feel time approaching and Lookers him before i lay waste to the field i set-up. He sends up his Smeargle when we're at 4-3, he benches a Crobat G to KO my benched Spiritomb and uses Portrait to try and hit a supporter he needs and i flash him a Twins. He's all :I and passes. I bench Azelf and Lock Up his Smeargle. He attaches DCE and gets double Tails. I get time called on my turn and use Lock Up again. Turn 0. He goes and Tail Raps for 2 heads. Turn 1. I decide to just retreat Azelf and finish of Smeargle with Shadow Room. Turn 2. He goes and doesn't have another ko. Turn 3 and that's a rap.
7-0

Props:
Mewtwo for being amazing
Undefeated all day
Getting to go at all
Good crowd of people even with a little turnout

Slops:
Can't really find any.

---------- Post added 12/22/2010 at 10:19 AM ----------

So the next day i wanted to switch decks, but couldn't come up with anything else worthy of playing. And i figured i could do one last shoot out with the big guns before its all over. Knowing that A) SP will be less prevelant and B) That those who play may anticipate Mewtwo this time around, i junk the 3 cards i replaced Magnezone for and put it back in.

Round 1 vs Chris S w LuxCHomp
My consistancy of ZOne just laughs at me here, prizing the entire line xD He manages to get Call T1, Luxray X T2 and Garchomp C X turn 3. I can't keep up trainer lock and waste the game trying to.
0-1

Not a good start comparred to the other day. But i find out quickly that it may get worse

Round 2: Bye
I don't like the bye. Espically after going 0-1. That seems like a really dangerous timing for it. I figure that i'm probably done for top cutting but all i can do is resolve to try. I realize the bye isn't a "bad" thing but there are far too many times i've been brought down by getting the bye. Oh well, nothing to do about it now.
1-1

Round 3 vs Seth K w/Machamp Umbreon
I have a hard time getting Vileplume out but I get a quick Gengar prime. He sets up an Umbreon and an Eevee on the bench with an active Machamp, but he only has the 1 fighting energy to take out. So i go aggro Gengar Prime. 4 damage counters on Umbreon. Take Out. 2 damage counters on Umbreon, 2 on Eevve. Take Out. I level up and send both to the lost zone as i get up a Magnezone Prime. His direct counters gone i proceed to take 2 more prizes with Gengar SF and then aggro Magnezone, killing his Machamp prime. He goes and Hurricane Punches for 1 heads. Zone survives and I Warp Energy him to the bench. I let him take a prize so i can get the extra energy attachment and KO his Machamp SF for game. he Hurricane punched for 1 heads 3 times poor guy xD
2-1

Round 4 vs Paul L w/Netdecked MewPerrior
It runs no Azelf. he prizes 2 Rhyperior X. He plays 2. I lol. I win easily, play him again, beat him just as easily.
3-1

Round 4 vs New player w/Gengar/Nidoqueen
So my trainer lock actually affects him so i am able to set-up behind it and take him to town. With a bit more time and more finetuned deck he could be good though. Good potential.
4-1

So i squeeze in at 4th, pitting me against my bro CLint A with an undefeated Shuppet donk. Hehehe, yeah..

Top 4 vs Clint W/Shuppet donk:
Game 1:
Spiritomb start. I win.

Game 2:
Double Spiritomb start and turn 2 Magnezone prime. What can i say.
5-1

Top 2 vs Chris S:
Game 1:
Goes much like the swiss match and there's little i can do. I try and even the playing field with a Lookers barrage but it fails to do anything. Such recovery xD I scoop for time.

Game 2: I choose to go first with Q active, Smeargle/Gastly/Magnemite start and explode, copying Collector for Spiritomb, Oddish and Q, and attahcing Qs and benching Tombs, and playing an Uxie from the hand and Warp energy on the Smeargle to get it out of active for Spiritomb. I set-up liek crazy, attaching an energy to VIleplume so that i can get around his Luxray X, and manage to take a quick lead. But i fizzle on energy for a bit and suddenly am deaddrawing into Pokemon with a full bench. When it hits 3-2 prizes and he has Garchomp C X and Luxray out, i figure i'm done in after draw passing for 4 turns. But he whiffs on something or other and passes. I draw my a Twins for my first energy in a while to retreat my active and Shadow Room his Garchomp C. he draws and passes, out of energy as well! I use my 1 Gengar to bring the whole thing back and win it back.
1-1

Game 3:
He makes me go first and my hand is: Gastly, Rescue energy, psychic, bebe, collector, BTS and Gloom. I draw Gengar SF and smile as i realize my game plan. He goes, Cyrus' for Cyrus, energy and energy gain and calls with his active garchomp C for Luxray and Bronzong. I draw another GLoom and bebe's. I get out Gengar SF, attach and Poltergiest. i catch him totally offguard and kill his active Garchomp C. He levels up and hits me for 60. I go and play my Collector for Oddish, SPiritomb and Uxie. I set-up VIleplume that turn and hes at a loss, playing a 2-1 Luxray and having it locked in play. I spread around his active Luxray and kill it with Fainting Spell, rescue my Gengar back, set-it back up and just keep on keeping on, winning it all 3-0 prizes.
2-1
6-1

Props:
Double weekend win
Magnezone for being a beatstick in the match i figured i'd need it least
Clint for going undefeated til me

Slops:
Luxray X trolling me xD
Can't really complain with a 13-1 weekend.

I really liked your report I went 9-0 at Wilmington Delaware with Gyarados i like your techs a lot and good move going mewtwo

Nice job man! Looks like I'm not alone in winning a full straight weekend of cities. You managed to achieve such a task as well. It even looks like you're becoming quite a pro with that Vilegar too!

Good luck for any future cities you go to, as well as the coming year!:thumb:

You always have some fun, slick tweaks to your tried-and-true archetype lists - good to see it here again, and gj.

Thanks to all, Chris for an epic Top 2 game on Sunday, Breon for giving me one of the few anmes i was missing and the kind words from the rest of you ^^
