    Report by: Nu Gundam
Deck: G&G + Dusknoir aka Plox ... (I sometimes wonder where do people get these names)
    Event: Canadian Eastern Regionals
    Location: Downtown Toronto
    Format: Modified (HP-on)

Yesterday was the Canadian Eastern Regional Championships. Around a week ago, Kant suddenly PM'd me and sent me a G&G + Dusknoir list. After taking a look at it, I decided to run that deck with slight modifications to the deck to fit my playing style. I left around 8:30 so I can pick up Coleman at Finch Station and then proceed to pick up Kant and Monta at around 9:20. We arrived at the hotel around 9:40 to do the deck registration, make our final preparations and such ...

Round 1 - Troy (CC Empoleon)

I had a bad start as I was behind by 3 prizes while I was setting up. However, I managed to have a Gallade out and began to taking down his Empoleons and Lapras thanks to Psychic Cut and Scramble. When we were at 1 Prize each, he laid down two CCs as his suffered an Energy drought, but I blew up both CCs with Windstorm and took the last prize with some creative use of Cyclone Energies.

Round 2 - Zach LeSage (GFG)

When I have three Rare Candies Prized, I don't think I need to say much about it.

    Round 3 - Alfredo (?) aka Geneses' brother (Banette/Slowking)

I managed to set up very quickly and make quick work on his Banettes and other Pokemons

    Round 4 - Lia aka Rainbowgym (Magmortar/Claydol/Cresselia)

Same as the last match as I took down most of her Pokemons before she could evolve them.

    Round 5 - Rick Ford (Ho-oh/Togekiss)

Man ... this has to be one of the more close matches for the day. He managed to power up TWO Ho-ohs every quickly and went ahead in three prizes again. However, Gallade came up and managed to take down Ho-oh twice (he flipped heads on the first Phoenix Turn, but failed the second time). Then I sent Gardeovir up to keep Psychic Locking and set up Dusknoir so I can Dark Palm his other Pokemon back to the deck (and continue to do so in order to limit his bench space). We went back and forth until we are down to 1 Pirze and time was called. He decided to play Warp Point, but I brought up Dusknoir and only took 20 damage from Togekiss' Air Scroll. After that, I brought up Gardevoir Lv.X and Bring Down one of his damaged Togetics (20 HP Left) to secure the victory.

    Round 6 - BJ (Hurricane)

BJ managed to score the first KO, but I set up Dusknoir, Gardevoir, and Gallade very quickly and managed to strike back at his Feraligatrs in swift blows. He then decided to concede since he couldn't do much about it.

So I ended up in 4th place and in the playoffs ...

    Top 16 - Lia redux

I managed to come way ahead as I was 1 Prize away from winning, but she managed to rally back thanks to her using Scramble Energies and Potions on Magmortar. I also did a rather stupid mistake for calling for Sonic Blade instead of Psychic Cut when my Gallade had no Fighting Energy on it (ended up wasting the attack). However, I managed to win due to my creative use of Cyclone Energy.

Quarter Finals - Brian Cresswell (Banette/Golduck/LunaSol)

I begin to set up with Pachirisu first by using Call For Family, then he decided to KO my Pachirisu. Then I sent Kirlia up, attached a Scramble and use Telekinesis on his Shuppet. Afterwards I managed to set up and begin to take down his other Pokemons. He then sent up his Shuppet, attached two PlusPowers, and used Cosmic Power to see if he can draw a Banette. However, he apparently sent his DRE back to the bottom of the deck, so he could only use Ghost Head on my Gallade. So I proceed to take down the rest of his Pokemon.

    Semi-Finals - Sebastian (G&G + Dusknoir)

Oh boy ... this is another close one since I beat him by 1 Prize on both games. In addition, if it wasn't my sheer amount of luck in Team Galactic's Wager, I probably would've lost in both games

Game 1: Both of us managed to set up and we ended up beating each other. However, I was behind in prizes, then I ended up using Duskull to KO his Gardevoir LvX @ 100 damage and his benched Stantler @ 60 damage to even up the score. Then we ended up Locking each other and set up Dusknoir until we are at 1 Prizes each, Then I use Hard Feelings twice on his Gardevoir twice to win the first round

Game 2: The same thing happened with both of us as Game 1 as I was behind in Prizes again. However the Scramble Energy managed to do wonders as I keep Psychic Lock his Pokemon until we are at our last Prizes again. Sebastian decided to Wager and won, then used Hard Feelings to put my Gardevoir @ 100 damage. Then I Cosmic Powered, used Night Maintenance on the Gardevoir Lv.X, Telepass for the Lv.X, attached a DRE on it (as it had a Scramble, so it obviously remained colorless) and Brought Down his Claydol for the last Prize.

    Finals - Matthew Koo (G&G + Dusknoir)

I have played against Matthew many times during the past year, and I went on top in almost every game against him because according to him, I always somehow managed to "Curse Cut" his deck so he could get horrible starts

Game 1: Since this is a mirror match, both of us were setting up our Gardevoirs and Gallades while only leaving three benched Pokemon since we know we will Dark Palm each other if we decided to bench the fourth Pokemon. He managed to attack first, while I fought back but he was ahead in Prizes so I decided to go Game 2.

Game 2: We again pulled off the same thing with the whole set up business, but this time I was in the offense as I keep Locking Matthew despite he has a Dusknoir on the bench. However he managed to bounce back and we were tied at Prizes when time called. And then he managed to KO my Gardevoir Lv.X with Ralts and a PlusPower

After the tournament Marvin (the PTO) decided to have a small photo-op after we received the prizes (a Luxio hat, the trophy, a box of Great Encounters, and the $1,000 scholarship, then we ended up eating in Frankie Tomattos (an all you can eat Italian "Feast" as they called it). After dinner, I proceed with more tedious driving to get my passengers back home. I guess with this done, time to prepare for Battle Roads and the Professor Cup since I will go to Origins ... (well, I really don't think Nationals is possible due to the price tag on plane tickets ... unless someone in Vancouver decided to let me stay with them for a day or so before Nats so I can take advantage of the cheaper plane ticket)

    - Major props for Kant, Chad, TRUK (and Team HB by extension) for the decklist
    - My ludicrious amount of luck that managed to get me to the finals
    - The box, the trophy, and the $1,000 scholarship (which goes to Kant w/ no catch*)
    - The 110+ Ratings boost
    - The tournament ran smoothly without much trouble as per usual thanks to the efforts of Marvin and fellow judges
    - Matthew finally breaking his apparent 2nd place curse, hopefully I will eventually be able to do the same
    - The food after the tournament
    - Duskull taking TWO Prizes (yes, you heard it correctly) against Sebastian during the Semi-Finals
    - Trick plays through Cyclone Energy
    - Scramble Energy as per usual for bailing me out when I needed it
    - Lia for coming all the way from Netherlands with her kids (though I must admit it is borderline madness considering the cost for plane tickets for the whole group just to play in Regionals)

    - My luck against Sebastian in RPS during T4 (went x-1 or 2 in the 2 games against him in the semi-finals) ... then failed against Matt in style yet again
    - The day costed me $80 (gas + food)

    - Plenty of stupid mistakes I made during the tournment that almost costed me a few games
    - Not remembering to bring my printed decklist from home T_T
    - Coleman for his ever annoying nerd rage when he went 1-2 and living in the middle of nowhere (apparently the pitch black near his home scared the living daylights out of Kant and Monta)
    - Monta going 3-3
    - Mike got booted out in T8
    - Losing to Zach again (well Zach, ask and thou shall receive)
    - Didn't eat anything major until 8pm ... again (pity that the Tim Hortons in the hotel only serves donuts and such, so no ... it was not a proper lunch either)
    - The rain after the tournament makes the driving a nuisance with the fogged up windows and such.
    - No plane ticket for me? (well, apparently it costs $800 for me to fly to Vancouver)
    - The requirement for a Notary Public's Seal so I can trasfer my scholarship to Kant (it is not like one can just steal the scholarship form and forge the transfer right?)

*Alright ... there is a catch, which is that I will wring my $1,000 back from him if he somehow managed to flunk out of university (well, it IS a fair catch isn't it?)

PS. Please excuse me if I did not get the details in the games at 100% accuracy since it was a long day and so much has happened

GJ Kevin. You'll have to break the 2nd place streak @ worlds if you go  Too bad you couldn't get the wager wins when you needed them most. See ya @ BR's

Let's start on something slightly more reasonable in the Battle Roads first since Worlds is an even worse "crapshoot" compared to Nats

Little secret, my husband works for KLM and with over 30 years of duty we can buy cheap tickets.
If I would have to pay normal airfare I wouldn't have been there, that's really to expensive.

Seb: Well, you will have to blame PCL for how two by the wire games were decided by RPS

Lisa: "Poor predictable Bart, always takes Rock"
Bart: "God ol'Rock, nothing beats that!"
    Bart: Rock!
    Lisa: Paper.
    Bart: D'oh!

Well, guess I need to somehow figure out how to get to Vancouver without commit murder on my wallet (as the absolutely cheapest direct flight costs $850) ... and no, any suggestion about me driving all the way to Vancouver will be rejected

Zach: What? I don't recall I have a $1,000 from Regionals ... the $1,000 is an illusion

Matt: According to VIA's website, it costs $3,000+ ... are you willing to pay for my train ticket instead?

    the $1000 is a lie. >_>

I played the same damn thing as Monta, and my flips were horrible. Lia 2-prized me and I just gave up on everything after that as I topped into 3 Torchics, She burns my pachi with 4 on, bombs the magmar dead and I got tails on burn roll... (face-palm)

    oh well.

Just take a guess, Zack, take a guess. I'm your best friend. (no, that was a bad joke there)

(and then someone will run in tell him who I am, what fun)

And Kev, the area around my house is so peaceful and tranquil, nothing bad happens here.
