Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

A very interesting format is on the rise

I've done extensive testing on the matchup and if they get up a Gallade, the game is pretty much over. They can easily OKO 2 Magmortar with 1 Gallade and thats already hard enough to recover from. Magmortar, just like every other T2 deck ( including Blissey ), loses to any S2 deck (the good ones atleast, in this case Gallade ) that can get set up.

i don't know what your builds are and what your comboing with both cards. But the play testing i just did, it was a pretty even match and Magmortar won. Even with the Gallade player getting all 3 Gallades, and 1 Gardevoir Lv. X out and me going 0-3 on my TSD, and the Gallade player going 2-3. So tough matchup, yes. An auto-win (which your making it out to be) for Gallade, no.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

Magmorter loses badly to Hurricane even with FF.

it depends a lot on what your combing with magmortar. If the Magmortar deck has a set-up like some of hte post i have seen here on the gym where it has Blaziken (firestarter) and Delcatty (energy draw) then yeah it's going to most likely lose. But if you run magmortar with another pokemon that could as well be a T2 deck then that's completely different story.

I believe and hope you guys are underestamating Magmortar since I'll be playing it at Cities. Then you will hear about the sidekick I chose for it, and it's nothing you have seen yet, nor is it a card that has a lot of hype here on the gym.

I don't know how well rushing Stantler really works. No mater how you look at it, he will be around for at least 2/3 turns, and that's plenty of time to get set up. Also if you KO him, you activate scramble, then the fun really starts.

Yeah, because you are going to have Scramble in play by T2/T3 with only running 1-2 in a deck. /sarcasm

Not allways, but it is posible, and I have seen several matches won by Hurricane by T2 Gatr, Scramble and Breaking Tail FTW.

Honestly, I don't consider Gallade the answer to Blissey. All Gallade does to Blissey is drop it's HP to 50. That is only doing 80 damage. Many pokemon can do 80 damage. And what's lame is how Gallade has to use it's second attack to KO Blissey once it's dropped it's HP, because it's first attack will do absolutely nothing to Blissey after it's been used once. Blissey can protect it's weakness with Holon Energy FF, so Gallade would have to flip over quite a few prizes to actually OHKO the Blissey. And it just two-hit KO's the Blissey, well a lot of pokemon can two-hit KO the Blissey.

So IMHO, Gallade =! EoB (End of Blissey)

My current Gallade deck is 8-1 (only losing its very last game, to none other than Hiroki Yano's dad) and I've used Gallade's first attack maybe twice in all those games. I've NEVER used it against Blissey. The only instance where I could possible imagine doing that attack against Blissey would be if my starting hand was Ralts, Gallade, Rare Candy, Double Rainbow and no draw.

Gallade has to flip over two prices to kill a Blissey. That's not a lot. Unless they get out their Holon FFs (not all Blissey decks even play the card, yet get it when they need it), you can OHKO Blissey THREE TIMES in one game. Rest of the time, you still do 90 for 3 Energy, while having the same HP as Blissey, who by all likeliness does less to you.

With the right build, Gallade decks have an infitely high advantage over Blissey. In Japan, that is.

In our testing, unless Blissey hardcore DONKS the Gallade player he or she will lose. You have to get amazing wp+water rips, and draw into boosts and warps perfectly to stand a chance. Even then you're pretty much a goner.

If you draw Boost Energies and heavy draw like Steven's all the time, you should have a chance of outspeeding the Gallade player. But all in all, you should - like you said - just hope for a donk.

It wont be a bad format,IM glad MegaGatr isnt talked about as much anymore cause that deck is so simple and boring to play.

No, simple and boring is...KRICKETUNE! MegaGatr is somewhat interesting and fun to play, to me anyway.

This format is looking VERY interesting. I'm liking it, but also disliking it all the same. If Gallade does go on the rise, then I seriously see Banette making a strong in the middle, and toward the end of cities. Heck, MAYBE even states.

I don't see Gallade being so great. Maybe I'm blind. I think Flygon SW has great potential.

Megagatr is going to be big unless someone addresses it properly. Drag Off 60? Delta Reduction 80? You must be... broken.

Krickets will lose steam as everyone realizes you can't play slow anymore, and so even outspeed that swarm of locusts.

Mario, I predict, will see lots of play, disrupt many tournaments, cause more sour grapes, and perhaps win big in a few places.

Empoleon will quietly take lots of Cities.

SPEED, SPEED, SPEED.

You think Banette is slow? I don't think so.

Raticate, Venomoth, Breloom, Mothim, Golduck, Cloyster, Electrode, Plusle/Minun, Unown K, Farfetch'd, Spinda.

SPEED!

I was doing research on Flygon SW last night. Gallade for 3 energy, flipping over 2 prize cards, can OHKO Blissey. Flygon for 3 energy, attaching a strength charm or plus power, and attaching a fighting energy to it that turn, can also OHKO Blissey. Gallade has a first attack though, but Vibrava is a better offensive stage 1. And Flygon only needs 1 type of energy for it's entire stage, and has -20 resistance to electric.

Both look like good stage 2's honestly, but I think many will play Gallade over Flygon.

Kricketune is still stupid consistent, and with the release of cards like Roseanne's Research, it can be even more consistent. Kricketune won't win as many tournaments because it's not very popular, not because it's slower/quicker than other decks. Kricketune is still the 2nd best speed/damage ratio deck in the format, Banette being the 1st. I like Kricketune better than Banette because you don't have to do damage to yourself on T2 or somehow get a stage 1 in the discard to do 70/80 on T2.

MegaGatr isn't that good. I played it at a Battle Roads. It takes way to long to setup, and a single Cessation Crystal ruins the entire deck. I wouldn't say the weaknesses are bad, but it just doesn't match the speed of the current decks. I don't expect it to do well at all at Cities.

As long as Blissey is around, Mario will be thought of, and maybe even played. But with Gallade out, I feel more people are going to go that direction. Especially with all this talk on auto-wins against Blissey.

Galade also has an alternate evolution that is psysic, one of the best typs out there. The Lv.x isn't bad either. I would say for that reason, that it has a slight edge over Flygon.

Of course Gallade's line has more choices. You have Gardevior ex d, Gardevior PK, Gardevior SW, and Gallade SW. If you add in any Gardevior (non-ex d), you have Gardevior lv.X to use too. So yeah, I can see how having like 4 different stage 2's to choose from would be better than what Flygon has. The only Flygons I feel that could even be played with the new one is Flygon ex PK and Flygon POP4 because they can use the fighting energy. But sadly, neither are any good.

Considering the mass Sniping ability in the current metagame, I am leaning towards a weird, but impressive card methinks... PIDGEOT!

Both attack are CC so it is splashable, can be FF or WP and if ran wiht 1 Pidgeot d shuts down most Power Based Decks! Whirlwind is no joke to do 50 then force the switch.. so why is 50 Important... sniping is just nice! Most Bench snipers can stack 20... so a 1-1-1 Omastar line is just nice.. or you can just match it with Donphan so you have a somewhat Bigger Hitter 70+ if they have the tool! CC locks I think are going to be going crazy right now, and why windstorm it if it helps you to add damage!

Donphan and Pidgeot are both cards worth looking into as I think they will have a nice home for disruption decks!

Skarmory Ex may actually get some play time!

Why is it you are always able to take the wierdest cards and make playable? I never even thought about that until you mentioned it....

But Gallade is similar to Pideot tho, except it makes them have 50 remaining if they are big like a Gatr/Blissey,I mean I would rather have that. Skarmory ex then becomes playable with either one tho.
