There were 42 in Bakersfield, if I heard right. No breakdown by age that I heard.
Seeing no report here's a brief one.
Four came in my van from L.A. We passed a horrific accident in the Grapevine (1 flipped 1 crumpled). People should slow down in the rain & fog. The rest of the L.A. contingent came earlier and missed it. There were also some folks who came south to this tourney from Paso Robles north that we knew from Las Vegas SBZs. There is an active PKMN player base in Bakersfield as well. I'd say just under half were from out of town.
Russo's Books has a card shop in the back and is in an outdoor mall. Carlos and Mike, store employees, ran a clean tourney with some help from Wes (?) who played but may have been the gym leader. It started off outdoors at round tables (two battles per table) in the sun. Soon the weather we saw in the pass blew in and the area grew cold and they brought us inside the bookstore for the 4th/5th rounds.
My opponent last round was undefeated and offered an ID. That got me into the Top 8 and, according to Wes, my single point difference keep there from being a huge tiebreaker. I played Sam, a local guy with a Sharpedo/Arcanine deck round 1 of top 8, had to play my son in round 2 (and lost). He lost to Jesse Esquivel (and his BAR deck) in the final. Congrats to Jesse on the fine win and the folks at Russo's for a good event. Seemed like good sportsmanship all around.
