This is premature, but if the State Champs get invitations to Worlds (free trip or not), it will be sad if players are permitted the possibility to win multiple State Championships.

Nope, State Champs go to Nationals. :) Then Nationals go to Worlds.

I am not sure about any gym Challenges or Stadium Challenges. Not sure where they would fit those in with pre-releases, City, State, Nationals, Gencon, Origins, and then Worlds.

Multiple city championships is fair. We are a group that travels. Ask Kansas City how their Dragon event would have been without us.

We plan to travel to at least 2 city championships with our group, and telling us that one player cannot play, may very well knock out a group of people from going on the trip.

For larger events, Colorado, St. Louis, one player will not make a hoot of difference. For other events (Sedalia, MO, St. Joseph, MO), if you restrict players from travelling there is NO WAY that they may get 24 players, which would penalize that whole city.

This event is not just meant for the BIG CITIES, but it is meant to support ALL the cities running Pokemon. I will be checking all of the Gyms in our area to MAKE SURE that every venue that can will be running a city championship!

If they do not have someone to run it, I will, and I will cross promote each of them! Down side is I may not get to play (hey Sedalia, throw me a bone, and run one on a Sunday!)

Thanks

I agree that one person won`t make much of a difference not being allowed to enter..The majority of times, that person who won an event with the big prize will still travel to the other big tournaments. After all, there are plenty of reasons for that person to want to show up:the friendship, the great times, side events and not to mention to get to show up as a reigning "champion" so that they can "brag".:)

So no,prohibiting a player that already won a major tournament with the big kahuna prize won`t be any deterrant to them really travelling to others for the most part. :)

Hey, our league is in a small city of 115,000, and I'm sure just in our own city we could easily get enough to have 50 people for a city championship. Then there's the leagues over an hour away in Toronto. The problem I see is that some cities (probably ours - even though we could get the attendance) will not be invited to have a city championship. So people will travel anyway. I guess since the prize structure hasn't been announced it's probably premature to talk about it, but if some have to travel for only a possibility of a VIP package if they win, chances are that the attendance will be low anyway.

Well, getting back to Prize Structures (trips, etc.)...
Even if I won at City Championships, then I won at State Champs, there would be absolutely NO WAY for we to make it to a National/Worlds tournament without a "Free Trip Package." Our family really doesn't have enough money to afford a flight or that long of a drive. IMO, they should give us "Free Trip Packages" for being a winner at States Champs. And maybe there should be more than 2 people included in that package...perhaps...? And also IMO, most families wouldn't be able to make it to a Worlds/Nationals Pokemon tournament. I mean, not EVERY parent in the US is going to want to drive 400 miles to go to a Pokemon Tournament. Think about it... it IS common sense.

(emphasis mine)

I think that's probably the best idea there. Assuming the previous winner is not allowed to play, there should be a side event or informal "league" for people not able to play in the main events at all CCs.

Do you happen to have any idea how many nationals there'll be(since it'd be pretty pointless*IMO* to hold a Worlds with only a very low amount of people)?

I respectfully disagree, (IMO)the limit of amount of people needed(at least 24) proves that it's not meant for smaller cities.

Does anybody have any idea as to what's in these "VIP packages"?

Thank you for reading.

Oh no. the CRY FOR MORE FREE TRIPS?

They should?

*not that again.

GenCon = 400+ players... start saving your pennies, dimes & nickels...

We don't even know the prize structure...

I have not been told much about Nationals. Only thing I do know is there will at least be one.

I emailed and asked what the VIP prizes would be and also what the prizes would be that would actually be handed out at the tournament. My responce was that they would let us know around Jan. 5th. My guess is it hasn't been set in stone yet so they don't want to release the information.

it would be cool if they gave away trips some people in my class dont have the money to go across coutry=\ but i know i could win my local city championship we had a dragons prerelease and for eon-mf games everyone was playing theme decks =P

What if in your hometown there is no city championship? Does anyone know if you're allowed to participate in another city??

This might have been covered already, but a play can play in as many City Champoinship as they would like or can make the time for. So if there are two and different locations at different times, you can play at both. :D

So, VIP packages will be given to the City Champs when they attend the State Championship. It would be a total shame if someone wins multiple City Championships in hopes of getting more VIP packages.
VIP packages will be give out only at State Champoinships to those winners with City Champoinships with at least 24 players. That is were the 24 Players comes into play. For the City Champoinships to be sanctioned they need to have at least 8 players from my understanding.

Also with the VIP Packages there will be only one give to a City Champoinship winner, even if this winner won more then one tournament. Also lets say I came and played at our tournament Steve in CO. If I won my State VIP Package would be sent to my home town State tournament. So PUI is going to keep track of who won what and were their home state is to send these. :)

Well, in the last round of Dragon Prereleases, there were 25 cities with 24 or more participants. I wish PUI would be a little more clear on what happens if 24 people don't show up.

If less then 24 show up from my understantanding the tournament will still be sanctioned at long as there are at least 8 players to play in the tournament.

The City Champoinships are a little different then any of the other PUI sponcered tournaments in the way that not all of the PTOs will be running them, but also just regular TOs too. This is so PUI can get more City Champoinships in smaller towns like yours. All you will need to do is if you are a TO or know of one in the area have them fill out the City Champoinships application by Dec 19th for a chance at getting one. I have heard PUI is hoping for around 100 City Champoinships so it doesnt hurt to apply for one. :)

I guess if they are giving away trips (don't know that, notice I say if), they want to make sure that there are enough people competing for it to justify it.

That would make sence for why they are wanting the 24 players. I guess we'll all have to wait till next month when they stated what prizes are. Even the PTOs dont know really what PUI is doing with the VIP package.

I don't think PUI even knows yet what they are doing with the VIP packages. I think they are still figuring it out.

This is all PUI has stated on the website on the Q&A for the City Championship

Q: What is the VIP Package?
A: Special prizes will be waiting for the City Champions at the State Championship event for their home state. The State Championships will take place in April. These VIP prizes will be available exclusively to City Champions at the time of the State Championships.

I hope it will be something good. Know PUI and how much effort they have been putting in the game I'm sure it will be.

The link to the City Championship faq is here.

And lookee at this, they won`t be trickling down the VIP packages...

Q: What happens if I win multiple City Championship events?
A: You will be the City Champion for multiple Cities! The VIP package for the second Championship will not ‘pass down’ to the second place player.
