Man, every deck next format is going to run Claydol (imho). How boring is that? No Cessation Crystal to shut it off, so you have to rely on Glaceon and Bench Sniping. Wow, it's worst than Pidgeot, at least it had counters (Battle Frontier) and other options (Magcargo).

I went ahead and ordered enough for all my decks next format. Why not, you know? It's not like they are going to be played less as time goes on.

Come on Japan, give us something else that's decent.

    Oh thoughts?

This is very true. Alot of deck have used Claydol. It is a staple now adays for draw. However i have seen many decks use Cessation Crystal to counter not only this, but other powers and bodies. Heck, even I use Claydol in most of my decks, because it is SO good and it makes decks very much more consistent.

    JMO and thoughts.

Prime, that is an interesting topic.

Claydol isnt that overpowered because it only works with handsize is 7 or less. With that, you could also have aerodactyl to use its pain technique to ko claydol.

There are ways to counter claydol that have been rotated, but I dont believe that claydol will run rampant.

Indeed it will be seen in most every deck. But most decks just flop without it.
    Its a staple.

It's a huge staple to decks. Think about how many games that hurt when you can't get claydol out by turn 2 or 3. There just isn't an effective searcher anymore to do the job. Claydol does that for us.

This brings up another point. With every deck running claydol, every turn is going to be even more time consuming then usual, and thus more and more games will go to time. I honestly feel that matches need to have at least 5 minutes added to them.

Claydol is as important to most decks as energy is.

The decks that run Aerodactly will run Claydol just to keep up with the other Claydol player.

Aerodactyl is going to be super hard to get in play anyways with the rotation of Holon Fossil. You can't search for Old Amber with any of the pokemon search, and you can't search for Old Amber with any of the fossil search. Even Relicanth cannot search for Old Amber! Aerodactyl is an unplayable card (imho) because of how difficult it will be to get the fossil on the field.

"only works with a handsize of 7" only limits how broken it can be. Steven's Advice also only worked with a handsize of 6, yet it was played a good amount the entire time it has been legal. Claydol is messed up, and the limit of 7 isn't going to lessen it's use.

IMHO, and I am making it clear that it is my honest opinion, every competitive deck next format will run Claydol...until something decent to replace it comes out. If nothing decent to replace it comes out, I predict every single winning States/Regionals/Nationals/Worlds deck will run Claydol.

Here's another prediction. I predict every single top 16 deck at Worlds (in Masters) will run Claydol. I might be wrong. I'm not saying I won't be. But I feel that I will be 100% right on with that call.

Last year and for the first half of this season, Delcatty was the consistency crutch with the obvious drawbacks of demanding a list with a lot of energy, and having to continuously dump it into the discard.. What's interesting/sad now is that decks are running Claydol -instead- of draw. It's hard to blame players though, when 4 spots in a list means either continuous hand refreshing every turn or draws of 8-11 cards throughout the game with the same slots used for draw supporters.. It's just too good not to abuse it.

having a card that makes mostly any deck you make better is a bad thing??Its never boring when you win, that just never happens.

I'm going to end up being the big advocate for that card here, I know it...

But yes, until something notable shows up to counter it, claydol will romp around unhindered. You've got stuff like Bronzong and Aerodactyl, but those are pretty specialized themselves.

You bring up some good points.

You might not find it boring, but I know many who do. Many of my friends that just "bleh" the format because they have to buy Claydol to be competitive. Delcatty wasn't that bad, because you had to discard energy, and thus it couldn't be run in every deck.

I don't know if your last statement was a jab at me, but I kind of wished people wouldn't stoop to that kind of level that quickly into the conversation.

People dont have to play Claydol, people choose to play claydol. I mean a deck can function without it,they did pre GE,why cant they not now. They can but people dont wanna take that risk. The format wouldnt be boring becuz of claydol, its boring becuz of GG honestly. If you build your deck well, then itll work with whatever you want it to.

NO Im saying a card that helps you win isnt boring,it just dosent happen often.I dont even know u to take a "Jab" at you, that just seems disrespectful and immature.

Well, its better than topdecking every single card in the format.

It just makes consistency much better in a deck. This card lessen's the luck factor slightly. Since when is speed in a deck bad?

Claydol is still inferior to Pidgeot in every way. **** it has a TWO retreat cost for crying outloud. You start crying about Absol, they make Claydol, now your crying about that. Are you gonna start crying that Bebe's is boring too? Or Energy?

Which makes Plox strength in the next format still pretty strong.
So many decks will rely on it that Psy Lock will become that much better of an attack. Still, Plox will miss DRE and Scramble.

    Claydol=New Pidgeot

Very few decks will even think about leaving out at least a 2-2 line of this guy.
He's just too good. He may be boring, but he really does weave together SO MANY good decks. It makes the consistency of tons of decks rise substantially, and it makes once unplayable cards now playable.

I see it as both good and bad for the format.
It's good because it reduces the amount of luck required to win a game because consistency is increased on both sides of the field.
It's bad because any card that sees excessive play in a card game is not healthy for that game. It makes both decks and playing alike dull and repetitive.

It's sorta like a "you can't live with it, you can't live without it" type of thing.

You know what card I would LOVE to see AND it would be a decent counter to Claydol

    Pokemon Reversal....

    HINT HINT, PLC!!!!!!

but I seriously doubt it is coming back. Ignoring that, I don't see Claydol as being any less used then is it now. Or for that matter, any more used. I rarley saw Cess. Simply BECAUSE of the major use of Clay. Honestly I don't think there will be that much of an increase of its use.

I agree about the use of claydol, its gonna be used the same as it is now,its not like people are gonna play 3-3 or 4-4 lines of it,cuz if they did then it would just seem or look ba d on paper.

I never said the card was bad, just that it makes it boring to make decks. and TRUK, nobody is crying about it. We're just voicing our opinions.

I think it's harsh to call a card like Claydol 'boring'. It helps decks to run more smoothly, which is a good thing. Almost all decks will play it, but almost all decks will also play Roseanne and Bebe's, and no-one says they are boring. Claydol is just a Pokemon which works like a Supporter.
