Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Closed Heart - Chapter 14 is now available!

It was during another lunch with tomato soup, Heather found herself looking out the window realizing the rain was nonstop the last few days. “This is weird. I don't think the rain has never kept pouring for two days let alone five.” This has got to be a record.

Chapter 10 - Rematch in Celadon: Shawn versus Asuki

Chapter Ten – Rematch in Celadon: Shawn versus Asuki

Heather woke up at the Pokémon Center feeling even more refreshed since the last few days. She was actually able to wake up to the sunrise like she used to do. She also realized that her arm and leg were not hurting like they used to. Feeling great she once again put on her new outfit that she bought from Lindsey's shop. Without disturbing the other slumbering trainers in the center. She snook to the lower level of the center. She immediately made for a public PC and used it to activate the holomap in the center. The holomap typically sported a diagram of the city itself, however she accessed the Orre region map and after attaching her P-DA to the PC she pin-pointed the location the trainers were reporting on the usual storm that would not subside their strange attack.

“Hmm it's too far for it to be at the Outpost and that is the last known building in that direction. Computer.”
The computer beeped to Heather's signal.

“Are there any known buildings at the designated coordinates.”

“No public buildings are located at known coordinates.”

“Public buildings? What about private?” Heather asked with hope.

“That information is classified under the Orre Region Privacy Act of 2003.”

“Figures.” She thought to herself that she should have realized it would be too simple to just ask a public computer for information. However it was in that train of thought she heard the entrance of the Pokémon center open and a familiar face did walk in. It was Corrison the mayor.

“Corrison hello.” Heather said from her desk.

“Why hello Heather. I am glad I did not arrive too early. I was hoping you were awake.”

“Oh?”

“Well I just came by to say thank you for what you did two days ago. If it weren't for you we would start taking on flooding that our city water systems can't handle. You probably saved many lives in your actions, despite you being bedridden.”

“Thank you Mr. Corrison.” Heather said with a blush.

Corrison then moved to the holomap. “Was this the source?” He asked as he pointed to the red dot on the screen, indicating Heather's coordinates. “The source of that terrible storm?”

“Yes according to the triangulated position the other trainers gave me. That storm is still there and might be growing again. I checked this morning and noticed it is about three times bigger from when we localized it.”

“Well I was afraid of that.” Mr. Corrison said.

“Why do you know what's out there?” Heather asked as she began to get excited.

“Yes that is the location of the old Team Snag'em hideout.” Corrison said with most seriousness. Heather could help but feel shocked.

“Really they are back in business? I thought they the organization was destroyed by my Father and that CIPHER created the storm machine used on Citadark Isle.”

“Your facts are correct except you are missing one piece of the puzzle. I should have told you in my previous conversation about this subject but Snag'em worked for CIPHER. They stole the Pokémon that were used in the first Shadow incident. Later CIPHER literally dumped the group after your Father's attack and the leader of Snag'em even fought against CIPHER in the second incident.”

“Wow really? What has happened to them then?”

“Team Snag'em truly disbanded and their leader is now the chief ranger for the Pokémon Rangers in the Orre region. He now of course works out of Mt. Battle at the Pokémon Ranger Station there. He says he created the Orre divison for the Pokémon Rangers as a way to repay for his mistakes, but I believe he has paid for that debt several times now, but he has no intentions of letting up. You might hit him up for information about the old hideout.”

“Sounds like a fun trip to visit Mt. Battle for the first time.” Heather replied. “Shame I won't have time to enter the 100 trainer knockout challenge.”

“I wouldn't worry about that, it's off season for that event right now and won't start up for another two months.”

“Beep. Beep.” Heather's P-DA just went off indicating it had a new message. She picked it up and read it immediately.

Dear Heather,

This is Krane, thank you very much for your efforts two days ago. The sunshine was so beautiful yesterday that some of my colleagues took the day off sitting the yard getting their suntan's back into shape. Besides that the reason I am writing you is that your Blaziken is almost ready to be purified. Please come back to the lab at your earliest convenience. Shawn and Andrea are well, will tell you more when you arrive.

Krane

“Well it looks like I have multiple destinations today. I will have to go get ready Mr. Corrison. I need to return to the lab and that will be a bit of a flight.”

“Excuse me, but did you say flight?” Corrison asked while rubbing his ear.

“Yes. I don't have the hovercraft here and won't be able to take a shuttle until tonight, so I have to use my more unorthodox means of transportation.”

Shawn found himself looking around the land like a Zigzagoon trying to check out every pebble on a road. Asuki would have been embarrassed if it weren't for the fact they were the only two on the train heading for Saffron. As he saw each new sight Asuki would give a brief explination. “Okay to the south there, that is Vermilion City. The gym leader there is the daughter of a old solider who used electric Pokémon in a war a long time ago. So she uses electric Pokémon too. That is the town of course we will head for once we are done in Saffron.” Shawn then found himself looking from the right side of the train. “That town you see far to the north is Cerulean City. A woman by the name of Misty runs the gym there and uses Water type Pokémon. She used to travel with a really good trainer we gym leaders have come to respect.”

“What was his name?” Shawn was beginning to think this could be the trainer Heather was looking for.

“I don't remember. I wasn't even born yet when he first did the Kanto run. He was born in Pallet Town they say. The same town that Oak has his lab. Apparently he himself was proud for this trainer to be one of his own. It even sounds like the trainer even out did his own grandson who is also now an adult.” She then laughed. “I wonder how Professor Oak still has any energy in this day and age. He has to be well past eighty and he still works like no other in his research. He says 'his project' is near completion and only until then will he retire and give the lab to his assistant.”

“What project is that?” Shawn asked.

“To have an encyclopedia of every Pokémon in the world. A completed Pokedex.”

“A completed Pokedex? I thought they were discovering new Pokémon all the time.”

“That is what I said when I talked to him about the matter. However he said something inside of him was saying that his quest was almost done. At least to him. He may be right and every 'known' Pokémon is about to be cataloged but I think that he still acknowledges there are still many more to be discovered.”

“Wow, I heard from him that the count is nearly up to 500 these days.” Shawn said in disbelief.

“No. More than that, the count is now over 600.” Asuki said. “I know for a fact he has data for 602 different species to date and he suspects many more but until they are found by a trainer he can't get any confirming data.”

It was then they found themselves pulling into Saffron City station. Once again Shawn found himself overwhelmed by the mass amounts of people. He would even find Pidgeys and other bird Pokémon, including some he never seen before flying over their heads carrying letters or small parcels. It kind of reminded him of old novels about Wizards using owls to communicate with each other. Elsewhere they passed by what appeared to be a Pokémon Gym.

“Oh that is not an official league gym there.” Asuki said. “That's a dojo that operates under strict rules of martial arts that both Pokémon and humans fight in. They do of course welcome challengers. Though you must use fighting Pokémon.”

“Really? Sounds like a fun trip one day.” Shawn said and continued on knowing he did not have any truly qualified Pokémon with him. Soon enough they found themselves at the hospital again. He stopped by the desk to learn if Andrea changed rooms, and to no surprise that was the case. The duo worked their way to one of the higher levels. However this level was a little more bright colored than the ICU's level was, he was grateful to find Andrea in a warm red room with a brilliant view of Mount Silver to the west.

“Shawn! Thank goodness I was beginning to worry.” Andrea said. Shawn raced up to her bed and hugged her. After a small moment they let up and soon after Asuki entered the room.

“Andrea I like you to meet my first friend from this region. This is Asuki and she runs the Celadon City Gym here in the Kanto Region. She was sent by Professor Oak to guide me safely to Lavender Town.”

“Wow really. That is great.” Andrea said showing no signs of jealously much to Shawn's relief. It was then Shawn and Asuki sat down and began the long story of their encounter and of how the CIPHER peon attacked him. He then told Andrea that he was going to Celadon to fight Asuki properly and try for a gym badge and his mission to Knot Island. He did not however reveal the details of the story Melina told him to pass on to Heather, instead told Andrea that he was not allowed to tell. As expected Andrea was disappointed.

“Oh sure, just go run off with another girl while I stay bedridden.” Andrea said with a sneer.

“IT'S NOT LIKE THAT!” Shawn shouted in a panic. He then covered up his mouth realizing he was in a hospital.

“Get off it Shawn, I was only teasing you. I don't want to be cooped up here anymore than you do but I don't have a choice. Besides if CIPHER is on to us we need to keep the Snag Machine moving.”

“Okay.” Shawn said with a breath of relief. “Then Asuki and I will be heading off. Expect me to come back in a couple of days. Please don't do anything rash and stay safe until we get back.”

“I will.” Andrea said with a draw. “Just bring back some good stories okay and be ready to show off that badge when you get it.”

“If he earns it.” Asuki interrupted. “He hasn't even seen half of my roster yet.”

Heather found herself at the outdoor balconies of the stadium in Phenac. She was looking to the west watching the storm there once again gaining strength. She knew she would have to make it back to here as soon as possible before the storms start pick up again.

“I wonder why they didn't shut it down. They must really want to be hiding something or was completely unaware anything has happen everywhere else.” She said to herself. She was soon discovered by Eric and Kimi. “Oh, hi guys!”

“We will be set up to head for the Outpost tonight Heather.” Eric said. “Be sure to try and be back as soon as possible.”

“I understand. I am sure it won't take too long.” She then grabbed the Poke Ball containing Latias and threw it into the air to release her. “Okay Latias. We need to head in that direction. Are you ready? This will be our first real flight.”

“Heather,” Kimi interrupted. “Not to be mean but it looks like Latias might be a bit small to safely transport a human on her back.”

“She's not.” Heather said and at that moment her own feet lifted off of the ground and she was glowing blue. It was clear that Latias was using Psychic to enable Heather to fly on her own and with a blast of air and light. They were off.

Shawn and Asuki soon found themselves in Celadon City. The two cities simply merged into each other as they were both major metropolises of the Kanto region. Shawn continued to feel overwhelmed by the city life but was beginning to become less anxious by the sights of gardens and flower shops across the city streets of Celadon. Before he knew it they arrived at Asuki's gym.

It was a large planetarium from the looks of it. Inside several really beautiful girls greeted Asuki upon her return and was extremely concerned by her day late absence. (She apparently was suppose to have returned yesterday if was not for the attack.) In any case she went to her private quarters to clean up and change clothes for the upcoming challenge. Several of the girls there seemed to go out of their way to make Shawn comfortable.

However it was not long before Shawn was escorted to the main arena. He was expecting a standard Pokémon battlefield unlike the elaborate designs of the stadiums and colosseums of the Orre region. However the surroundings was covered in grass and plant life. There were several bushes along the side lines. This was clearly a gym where Grass types did have the advantage. However there was a small pool (though too small for any Water type Pokémon to make good use out of it) in the center in the form of a Poke Ball. Before long Asuki did return wearing a more functional but still beautiful kimono dress, this time Yellow with Poke Ball insignias covering it. She took her side and spoke aloud, “Welcome Shawn, to Celadon City Gym.”

“Thank you Asuki.” Shawn replied.

“As the gym leader of the Rainbow Badge, I accept your challenge! This will be a three Pokémon battle. Only one Pokémon may be used at a time. All international Pokémon training rules apply in this match.”

“Agreed.”

“Then I choose you, Victreebel.”

Shawn was a little surprised she choose a Pokémon that he had already beat in battle before. She must have learned to something so he decided it was prudent to pick a different Pokémon. So without futher hesitation he picked and toss out a Poke Ball while exclaiming, “Armaldo! I choose you!”

“Okay Victrebel, this time we need to keep our distance. Use Razor Leaf!” Asuki commanded.

Victreebel began shooting out several leaves which flew at Armaldo like shuriken. Armaldo was ready for Shawn's first command. “Armaldo, defend yourself by using fury cutter attack!”

Armaldo despite it's bulky size gracefully destroyed any leaf that attempted to strike it, and very little damage was dealt upon it. Then Armaldo knew that was the cue to charge against Victreebel and with its final swing with fury cutter, struck Victreebel. It fell back but was not out.

“Ah fell for it!” Asuki said, “Solar beam!”

Shawn was then startled by the sight, while solar beam would normally take a few minutes to power up, Victreebel's attack was launched immediately. Armaldo was hit at point-blank range and was instantaneously knocked out.

“How was that possible?” Shawn said to himself, then he looked up at the glass dome above them. It was then obvious. The sun was extremely bright and he must have wondered if the plan Heather executed yesterday had a much longer lasting effect across the nation. Nevertheless, he had no Pokémon who could change the weather to his favor now so he was going to have to be clever.

“Okay Noctowl I choose you!”

From its Poke Ball, Noctowl flew high into the sky ready to attack. Noctowl fought against Asuki's Victreebel from their first encounter which may now prove to be a disadvantage from her experience from battle with it combined with the now limitless power of her grass type's solar beam attack. However he did not risk pulling out his Shedinja yet, because he feared many of her Pokémon may now be prepared for it.

“Okay Noctowl, we need to keep Victreebel busy, let's use aerial ace attack!”

Aerial Ace's incredible speed did keep Victreebel busy, despite not having to recharge the solar beam attack, Noctowl was successful in dodging the beams. Each time Victreebel missed, Noctowl would hit Victreebel. There was even a time one of the beam ended up taking out a large rose bush on the sidelines, leaving many of Asuki's assistants running.

“This is getting no where.” Asuki growled. “Victreebel, use Acid!”

“Noctowl use protect!” Shawn countered.

Noctowl was quick to hold it's position and generate the energy needed to deflect the poisonous attack. Once Victreebel ended the attack, Noctowl took the moment, to make the final blow with one last Aerial Ace. Victreebel was hit and landed in the small pool, knocked out.

Asuki had no choice but to send out a new Pokémon. “Bellossom! I need your power!”

Out came a beautiful Pokémon, Shawn never seen before. He decided to keep Noctowl out and immediately commanded Noctowl to begin it's attack again. However, Asuki did something different this time.

“Bellossom, use Leaf Storm!” Asuki commanded.
Bellossom raised its little arms and with a very pleasing battle cry, it began to glow green, and then several leaves from the trees, bushes, even blades of grass from the surface of the battlefield took to the sky and swarmed the building flying in every direction. Shawn was used to sandstorms, but nothing like this. His Noctowl not only lost its target but instead hit the ground with its latest aerial ace attack.

The attack subsided, and before Noctowl could get up, Shawn saw what was coming, Bellossom also took advantage of the bright sunlight and fired a solar beam. “Noctowl protect!”

It was too late however, the attack already connected with Noctowl and the owl Pokémon was sent flying, crashing into the ground a few feet away from Shawn. However by some miracle, it was not out. It first limped to get it's footing and was all of a sudden back in the air.

“Alright! Let's not let that happen again! Roost!”

“Bellossom, Leaf Storm!”

Again the leaves began flying in every direction in the gym, however Noctowl landed and took shelter on the ground. Asuki was lost for a moment, looking in the sky for her opponent's Pokémon. However it did not take long before she found Noctowl, regaining its energy.

“Quick Bellossom, finish it off with solar beam!”

“Sky Attack!” Shawn commanded.

The beam barely missed Noctowl as it took to the highest parts of the large gym, and without delay, made direct contact with Bellossom. Like Victreebel, before it, Bellossom landed in the pond now soiled with grass and leaves.

“Oh no! Bellossom!” Asuki recalled her Pokémon back into it's Poke ball. “You are too good Shawn. But my Leafeon will wield it's full power!” She threw out her last Poke Ball with emitted the shining light that transformed into Leafeon. “Solar beam!”

Leafeon's solar beam was the fastest of all three different Pokémon Asuki has used in this match. Shawn was not even given a chance to think. The beam instantly hit Noctowl and the tired owl finally submitted.

“Good job, Noctowl.” Shawn said as he recalled it. Then after thinking a moment, he knew only one of his Pokémon would for sure stand a chance against the powerful Eevee evolution. “Salamence, it's game time!”

Shawn threw out his final Pokémon, which was the powerful Salamence he last used against the CIPHER peons from escaping Krane's lab.
“Dragon Pulse!”

Salamence's attack was ruthless, immediately a surge of plasma like energy filled the room from Salamence, and directly hit Leafeon head on however it was not out of the fight.

“Oh no! I am too close to this victory than to lose to a dragon, Leaf Blade!”

Not only was Leafeon fast with its Special attacks, but the physical attack of leaf blade was like a samurai charging it's target. No time to defend, Leafeon struck across Salamence knocking it back to Shawn.

“Dragon Pulse again!” Shawn commanded

“Protect yourself Leafeon!” Asuki countered.

Leafeon was successful in protecting itself against the second Dragon Pulse attack, which was far stronger than the first. While Leafeon used its energy to deflect the attack, the attack otherwise was tearing the gym apart, ripping apart tree branches and cracking several large planters that surrounded the arena, everyone except Asuki and Shawn was running in terror. The final move was at hand.

“Leafeon, this is it. It's all on this move.” Asuki was whispering to herself.

“Focus Salamence, let's win our first gym badge.” Shawn said as well.

“Last resort attack!” Asuki commanded.

“Hyper beam attack!” Shawn commanded.

It seemed like forever, Leafeon began to charge at Salamence, at what appeared to be the ultimate form of a tackle like attack. Salamence took aim at Leafeon, charging the energy in its mouth. If Shawn was just a second late it would have been over, instead right when Leafeon made the final lunge, it was caught in the fire of the powerful hyper beam which nearly hit Asuki and blasted into a wall behind her. When the attack was over Leafeon was on the ground behind Asuki, knocked out from the hit.

“I don't believe it. He won.” Asuki said to herself as she gazed upon her fallen comrade.

Heather arrived at the lab within a few hours, just before noon. The lab was heavy under construction. However she found Krane, and his assistants working in the Purification chamber. He turned as discovered Heather entering the building.

“Hello Heather, I am afraid the last bit of the Purification is going slowly, it seems it is taking longer to purify Shadow Pokemon than last time.”

“I see, though one should not see that as a surprise I guess.” Hearther replied.

“Why do you say that?” Krane asked.

“Think about it, CIPHER's speciality is Shadow Pokemon, surely they are working to perfect it.”

“Perhaps, if that be the case I would wonder why this is not a XD Shadow Pokemon.”

“XD?” Heather asked looking puzzled.

“A more powerful form of Shadow Pokemon. The only known XD in the past was a prototype and originally was thought to be a Shadow Pokemon impossible to purify, though through research was proven wrong. In any case, I fear things are more complicated than the last two incidents.”

“We can only assume as much, CIPHER intends to win at all costs.” Heather stated.

“Yes, well maybe by tomorrow, Blaziken here will be ready to open its heart.”

“I hope so. Well I wish I could stay and chat but I really have to get to my next destination.”

“Where is that?” Krane asked as they started to walk to the nearby PC.

“Mt. Battle.” Heather said as she logged on to the PC. “I need to find the Ranger leader there. Apparently he has information about the target site that we need to investigate.” She began checking on the weather on the PC.

“Yes that is right, remember despite now working for the good guys, he is still very rough around the edges... well just rough all round. His name is Gonzap, and wouldn't hesitate to fight you if he still trained Pokémon.”

“I'll keep that in mind.” Heather replied. They began to make their way to the exit.

“Are you feeling alright Heather?” Krane asked with the most sincerity.

“Better than ever. My leg doesn't even bother me anymore for the most part. I think Latias might have done something to it when she was transporting me here.”

“That is good. I would love to get a chance to examine Latias someday, of course there is still many questions about her kind we do not know the answers to.”

“Well if this war is ever over, maybe we will have that chance.” Heather said as she smiled. They then exited the building and without hesitation she summoned Latias and once again took to the air.

“Look what you have done to my gym!” Asuki cried out.

“Sor... sorry. I thought you wanted to see my best!” Shawn said in terror.

“Yes but not destroy my garden in the process! Boys. You are all alike. Well I guess I will have to replant everything later. Anyways, congratulations, I know this was more a single achievement for you than a step to becoming the Kanto league champion, but either way you earned this Rainbow badge.”

Asuki handed over a beautiful gold pin, layered with multiple gems forming a rainbow colored flower. Shawn took the badge and pinned it to his backpack and it sparked in the sun.

“Now I guess I will get changed and we will make our way to Vermilion City.”

“Should we work to get this place back in shape first?” Shawn asked still feeling guilty.

“Heck no, the girls can take care of that. They do this all the time. Though I think they never had it this bad in for them. Come on meet me at the entrance, I will get changed quickly since this is the second Kimono you have destroyed within the last 48 hours.”

She disappeared up a flight of stairs, Shawn still didn't feel any less guilty as he made his way to the exit.

Heather stopped in Agate village for a quick lunch, most of her team's Pokémon was let loose to enjoy the sunshine, while she ate a sandwich her grandmother made, she was on one of the highest levels of the village overlooking the desert beyond it. Everything for a moment felt normal as if CIPHER, Shadow Pokémon, her newfound power never even existed. She was very thankful for this moment.

However her bliss was soon interrupted as her surrounding went completely black. She seen such a feat before, it was a night shade attack, though it was not meant for her harm or any of her Pokémon. She was being isolated.

“Do not turn around.” A muffled voice said behind her back. It was clear the stranger was right behind her and may be wearing a bandanna around his mouth.

“What if I do?” Heather asked with the slightest hint of fear in her voice.

“Because our time to meet has not yet come. Seeing me now will only make your hunters pursue you more.”

“My hunters, you mean, CIPHER.”

“They seek you, it is important that you do not fall into their hands.” the mysterious voice said.

“Because they know I hold something valuable.” Heather replied.

“You are Honato. You are more valuable than you can imagine. You must not be trapped by them.”

“But I must pursue them. There is no one else who can see Shadow Pokémon.” Heather said this realizing this mysterious person knows of her ability through the legend of her tribe.

“Yes you must, but as you hunt them, they will hunt you. Imagine if they found this opportunity to strike like I have.”

“Then I would be in trouble.” Heather said and with that, light around her returned. She then attempted to turn around but could not get her focus from the bright sunlight. By the time she could see again. It was too late. No one except for a few villagers near the Pokémon Center was present. She then pack her things and raised all of her Poke Balls. “Team return!”

Thanks to a forest shortcut Asuki knew about, it was only a few hours walk to Vermilion City, Shawn could smell the scent of the ocean, just as if he returned to Gateon Port. He looked out to the South and could see several ships at dock. As they wondered through town, he saw what appeared to be the Pokémon Gym for Vermillion. It looked like a military barracks.

“That's the gym for this town huh?”

“Yes it is.” Asuki replied. “The gym leader has become very difficult to beat since the death of her father. She is tough. Unless you use fast ground types, they say she is unbeatable.”

“That sounds scary. Still Heather would love to fight you and her, along with the rest of the gym leaders here in Kanto.”

“Well our doors will be open to her.” Asuki said. It was then doors to the gym did open.

“ASUKI! What on earth are you doing here?!” said a woman with brown hair who appeared to be a few years older than Asuki. She was dressed in a tight fitting military style outfit, but with shorts. She was also sporting bandages on her legs, arms, and even one of her left cheek. She was also wearing glasses. “You should be on duty! I already heard you completed your personal leave at Lavender. You can't just take a weekend off every week you know, the Kanto League Championships are almost over!”

“Hey don't blame me.” Asuki said back in a very sarcastic tone. “If it wasn't for a certain trainer completely wiping me out earlier,” (she tilted her head toward Shawn) “My gym wouldn't need a week's worth of repairs.”

The other girl then looked at Shawn, and after taking a moment to study him, she grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and pull him up to her face. “IS THAT SO? Well if it weren't for the fact I already have a day full of trainer's already lined up in there to challenge me. I'd drag you in my gym myself, if Asuki is actually knowing what she is talking about!” She then let go of Shawn's collar and he dropped to the ground. “But since the rules force me to battle trainer who are in line of you first, even though I already know I won't be handing out a single badge today, I will just have to let you go!”

“Well I am glad we can come to an understanding miss... miss?” Shawn asked as the girl started to turn red in anger.

“PRIVATE! You little turd! Don't you know a soldier when you see one! I am in the National Guard after all, and I don't wear this uniform for show! Now listen here! I expect you to come back and see if you can back up your insult. Cause if you don't, I, PRIVATE Christi Blane, will just take a bit of personal leave myself and come find you! DISMISSED!”

“Yes Sir!” both Asuki and Shawn said. Christi then turned around and stomped back into the gym.

“Well at least you met her on a good day.” Asuki said.

“THAT was a 'good' day?”

Heather wasted very little time completing her journey to Mt. Battle. She looked up at the glaring peak above her and saw the usual smoke coming from the top of the volcano. However she never had been so close. She approached the village below the mountain and saw the usual crowds of trainers either at shops buying up supplies, getting rest at the Pokémon Center, or simply at the main building waiting to enter the glorious mountain for training sessions.

She felt bummed that she could not take part in the 100 trainer challenge today. Especially knowing she was now qualified. She also knew that if she could complete the challenge, that was an instant invite to participate into the Orre regional championship. She wished she could be calling Eric and Kimi and scrapping the plan, however she knew that there were more important things to be done than to focus on her career as a Pokémon trainer, not to mention Corrison stating the challenge season was completed. So with out further delay she found a large building with the Pokémon ranger crest above the entry way.

Immediately she found a reception counter with a young female ranger serving the post there and she approached it. “Excuse me, is the Ranger leader here today?”

“Yes he is." The ranger replied with uncertainty. Clearly it was a request not commonly made. "Can I ask what business you have with him?”

Heather thought for a moment, she wasn't sure if this Gonzap would appreciate the mention of his old criminal team just to grant an audience with her. So she choose her words carefully. “It is about that storm building up, out east past the old Outpost. I was told he can help me with my investigation with it.”

“I see. Well let me call him and I will see if he will talk to you. Take a seat right there.” The ranger said as she pointed to a bench just to right of Heather. Heather did sit down but it only took a few minutes for the ranger to return to her. “He said he will see you immediately. Please follow me.”

The ranger guided Heather through the ranger post. There were a lot of high tech devices and multiple similar dressed young adults working hard at dispatch stations or typing reports. Heather then found herself in front of a flight of curving glass stairs that led to an office on the floor above. The ranger motioned for Heather to continue on her own and she left her, returning to the reception desk.

Heather climbed the stairs quickly and knocked on the door when she reached the top. However the door slide opened electronically. Heather entered a room where the sunlight from the nearly endless windows gave the only illumination.

“Silly girl, there was a door bell.” said a rough and older voice. The man who was talking was looking away from his desk out to the Orre desert.

“My apologies sir. I am from Agate Village and I am not exactly used to all these electronics around...”

“Yes of course. Pokémon Trainer ID OR-97345. Peacecraft, Heather Illana. OPTA rank 1 star.” The figure then turned around. The man was bald, and appeared to be around his fifties. However he was far from poor health. Despite the fact he was in a ranger leader's uniform it was clear he sported powerful muscles across his body. Heather could only imagine how many tenths of a second it would take for her to be defeated in a arm wrestling match against him. “and the daughter of the man who betrayed Team Snag'em.”

“So I have heard, but would you not agree that you now betrayed that forgotten team's principle?” Heather said boldly.

“Heh... perhaps. I only decided to truly give up on Team Snag'em when the news of your father's death came to me. It was about eight years ago and I realized any chance at my revenge was taken from me. Now I seek justice from those who robbed me of my opportunity to fight against your father one last time.”

“Justice or vengeance?”

“Justice. I only held a grudge from your father when he first destroyed my old base, twenty years ago. It was then I realized my power could do so much more than to settle my own affairs. Otherwise how could someone like me now be the leader of the Orre Pokémon Rangers?”

“Then if what you say is true, then you must know why I am here.” Heather then started to approach Gonzap.

“Yes. CIPHER. We share a common enemy Heather, daughter of Sean. Your exploits already are making a difference even we rangers could not have done. Now the only reason I can see you need my help is to learn about my old base.”

“Correct.” Heather replied.

Gonzap started to laugh. “Well I am sorry to disappoint you but I have not been in Eclo canyon ever since I demolished the building, eight years ago.” Heather was shocked to hear this. “Ever since I realized Team Snag'em was done for I made sure no remaining element to our old plans remained, I destroyed the remains Team Snag'em headquarters until only a smoldering pile of rubble remained. I then set out on the world to learn the true meaning of Pokémon on my own, until I am now who you see before you today.”

“Well thank you for at least trying to help.”

“Indeed.” Gonzap replied. “It is a shame I am no longer a trainer. I can see your father in you, except you do have your mother's eyes. You would make a great opponent.”

“Likewise, Gonzap.” Heather said as she then turned and walked for the exit.

“Be cautious, daughter of Sean.” Gonzap said. Heather stopped at looked back at Gonzap. “Your father and mother sure weren't and they almost got killed when they fought CIPHER. Beware of that part of the canyon. There is only one way out of that canyon.”

“Thank you.” Heather replied. “I always take care of myself.”

Shawn and Asuki was on the sea-runner heading for Knot Island. Shawn was again treated to seeing many different Pokémon in the sky such as the Wingulls and Pelippers that tried to keep up with the fast moving ship. Below he could see several fish Pokémon also chasing the ship alongside. Along with them was a man who looked like a computer nerd from the 80's. It was Bill that Professor Krane mentioned about. During the journey the talked about how the Pokemon Storage System works and Bill's fondness for Eevee and its many different evolutions. Asuki even mentioned its because of Bill she learned about the evolution into Leafeon through the moss stones.

It was only a matter of time before they arrived. Unlike the metropolises of Kanto, Knot Island's village was small and untouched. Which made Shawn feel a little more at home.

It was easy for Shawn and Asuki to find the Pokémon Net Center. Upon entry, they first found what would appear to be a normal Pokémon Center with all of the usual resources, however in a chamber to the right, there was a large computer lab. There was only one person working there, and he seemed to be working on a very large machine.

“Disaster, the whole thing is a disaster!” It was clear the technician was talking to himself.

“Excuse me... Celio.” Asuki said as she touched his shoulder.

“What? What!” He turned around in a whirl. He was a man about in his late thirties, wearing large glasses and his hair a mess. “Asuki. Oh what a pleasure it is to see you again so soon. Come! Come! I have some tea ready here.” He was scrambling to get to a counter where a hotplate was cooking a kettle. “Come so soon for a visit again?”

“Well this time on business actually.” Asuki said as Shawn walked up. “This is Shawn, he has come here to retrieve the Yanmega that was blocked here during inter-region transport.”

“Ah yes. So you are the thorn in my side these past few days.” Celio said with a glare.

“Excuse me?” Shawn replied.

“Well not to say that it is really your fault.” Celio said as he continued to make three cups of tea. “I invented the inter-region transport filter to prevent any form of transport, trade or storage, of any illegal Pokémon, such as the Shadow Pokémon you tried to send. Needless to say this was the first test ever since I build the darn contraption fifteen years ago. I guess it worked.” Celio said as he started to burst out laughing.

“Needless to say, the system actually activated, and pretty well crashed half of the system. It's a wonder international pen-pals or elite Pokémon veterans are not ticked from the system not working like it should. Which should be fixed by the end of the day.” Celio then started to rummage in a desk and then pulled out a familiar looking Ultra Ball. “Here you go. You know it's a wonder your trainer license was not suspended when the system activate, it took explanations from both Oak and Krane to me on what was going on before I agreed to surrender the darn thing to you. Not to say I am not glad to be rid of it, mind you.”

“Don't blame you.” Shawn said “I was surprised a CIPHER agent did successfully attack me here in Kanto. Though I am equally surprised you just had this Shadow Pokémon in a drawer in your desk here.”

“Why not? Nothing ever happens on this island.” Celio replied. It was then a window broke open from an explosion.

Meanwhile, Heather, Kimi, and Eric were looking out to the east just beyond the Outpost gas station. The storm began to grow in size again and they could feel a cold wind blowing in from the east.

“It's cold! I wish I brought my bigger jacket if I knew we would hit this.” Kimi whined.

“I do not get it.” Eric said. “Why rebuild the storm? They must know by now of what we did yesterday.”

“I know. I do not understand either, but I think whatever we find there will answer a few questions.” Heather said.

Immediately she found a reception counter with a young female ranger serving the post there and she approached it. “Excuse me, is the Ranger leader here today?”

“Yes he is? Can I ask what business you have with him?”

shouldnt there be a period instead of a question mark?

other then that this was a good chapter "nothing ever happens here" lol

Actually I deliberately left it like this, the expression is to leave the girl confused since requests to see the ranger leader would be a unusual. However I changed it and wrote in a description that the girl was curious about Heather's request. Hopefully that clarifies things better.

A few mistakes I found:

"You are Honato." shouldn't this be Hoanto?

"She snook to the lower level of the center." It is actually supposed to be "sneaked".

"whom I can't remember his name," this should be "whose name I can't remember," or,"the name of whom I can't remember."

great chapters other than that though.

Chapter 11 - Battle on Knot Island, Survival in Eclo Canyon

Hey everyone! Sorry it took forever to get this new chapter posted. Since summer I got a new job and time to work on the story has been limited. However I have two new chapters ready which will appear in the next couple of weeks. Please enjoy.

Chapter Eleven – Battle on Knot Island, Survival in Eclo Canyon

The explosion knocked everyone on the floor. However Shawn was not going to be let down for a minute, immediately he regained his footing and discovered the same CIPHER agent from Lavender town was standing right outside. In addition there was a fainted Electrode just at the blast point. It was obvious it used Explosion to cause the attack on the Pokémon Net Center. However there was already another Pokémon out to take the Electrode's place, there was a large and completely unrecognizable Pokémon standing before him. It was a brown dragon shaped creature with blades sticking from the sides of its mouth.

“What is that creature?” Shawn asked himself. It was then the Shadow detector went off. “Great and it is a Shadow Pokémon.” Shawn quickly checked the Electrode still fainted on the ground and was relived to see it too was not a Shadow Pokémon.

“Haxorus! Attack that boy!” the CIPHER agent commanded.

“Flygon! I choose you!” Shawn called out as he tossed out a Poke Ball.

“FLYGON!” Shawn's Pokémon cried out.

“Flygon, defend us with Protect!”

Flygon did so immediately and was successful in preventing a devastating Shadow Rush attack from making contact with anyone. Shawn then made the next move.

“Flygon use Hyper Beam to knock them back outside!”

Flygon wasted no time to summon the energy for the attack. Immediately a blast of energy shot from it's mouth and made contact with both Haxorus and the CIPHER agent, knocking them back outside. Shawn and Flygon both rushed outside through the opening in the wall to continue the battle.

“Flygon use Outrage!”

“You use Outrage too!” the CIPHER peon countered.

Both dragon Pokémon launched one of the most devastating legal moves in the books. Both Pokémon's attacks hit head on to each each other and the conflicting plasma like energy was tearing apart everything in the area. The island palm trees was being ripped apart, and the Pokémon Net Center's walls were cracking. This went on for a minute when all of a sudden, Haxorus's attack gave out and was hit full blast by Flygon's.

“Go Snag Ball!” Shawn said as he tossed out an already charged Snag Ball.

Immediately the ball made contact with the downed Haxorus, and consumed the Axe Jaw Pokémon. It was a successful capture.

“This is not right. You are stealing my Pokémon!” the CIPHER agent cried out!

“Like it's right to brainwash them into killing machnes? I have no choice but to relive you of your Pokémon, they do not deserve the treatment CIPHER is giving them.”

It was then Shawn's words were justified because two police officers came up from the village below and grabbed the CIPHER peon.

“I called the police while you were battling him.” Celio said. “Good job. Now let's get these Shadow Pokémon back to Orre.”

Heather and her team was in Eclo canyon on the east end, and was slowly approaching the storm ahead. Immediately it began to rain and hail and they were using Latias's psychic abilities to sheild them from the damage.

“If it was not for Latias, this storm would be intolerable.” Cried out Kimi.

“I know but we gotta keep moving!” Heather shouted back.

It was not long before the could see the walls of the canyon begin to close in on itself. Before they knew it, they found the dead end of the canyon. However there was no building of any kind in place. Heather did see through the rain what Gonzap meant when he destroyed the remains of the old Team Snag'em hideout. There was nothing but rubble all around them.

“I don't get it? Why would CIPHER go to all of this trouble to brewing a storm for nothing?” Eric was calling out.

“It's not CIPHER. Look!” Heather said as she pointed to the center the wrecked building. Hovering before them was a strange looking Pokémon that reminded them of a genie of sorts. It was green in color, and was waving its arms causing more clouds to brew in the air.

“Think he's here to grant us three wishes?” Eric asked.

“I doubt it but it's clear this Pokémon is causing the storms, we have got to beat it!” Kimi cried out.

“Let's team up, any legendary Pokémon can be too much for any one trainer, if we work together we might have a chance.” Heather said. The other two nodded. “Then let's do this, Latias you are up!”

“Go Charizard!” Eric command as he tossed out his Luxury Ball containing his shining Pokémon.

“Go Kingdra!” Kimi commanded.

“Kingdra?” Heather asked in surprise.

“Since our match I have been working very hard to train my Pokémon. I wanted to make sure I stand a chance against you next time!” said Kimi.

Immediately the three trainer's Pokémon surrounded the strange Pokémon in the center. It was then the wild Pokémon cried out! “TORNADUS!” Immediately following a dark wave of energy shot out in all directions hitting each of the three Pokémon.

“Wow that Pokémon is tough.” Eric said “That must have been Dark Pulse attack.”

“Not as tough as we are, let's do this! Everyone use their Hyper Beam Attacks. Latias!”

“Charizard, Hyper Beam!” Eric commanded.

“Kingdra, Hyper Beam!” Kimi commanded.

All three Pokémon launched their attacks and made direct contact simultaneously with the Tornadus. However it was far out from the fight. Immediately it waved its arms and the winds picked up even more!

“We can't keep standing!” Kimi cried out!

“We've got to! Latias, Psychic attack! Try focusing the wind back at Tornadus!” Heather commanded.

It was clear Latias was summoning all of its available power to pull off the move, the wind was being hit on Tornadus now and it was forced to stop the hurricane attack.

“Good job, Heather, now it's my turn. Charizard, Fire Blast!” Eric commanded. His Charizard immediately fired a blast of fire at the Tornadus and it struck the back side of the powerful Cyclone Pokémon.

“Kingdra use Ice Beam to slow it down!” Kimi followed up. The Kingdra also made contact with it's target, freezing the Pokémon in place.

Heather thought this was a great opportunity to capture such a rare creature and she reached for one of her Ultra Balls. However she then saw the storms leaving the area, and then realized the consequences of her actions if she threw the ball.

“What are you waiting for Heather! Capture it!”

“I can't. We can't!” Heather said. “Don't you see? This Pokémon is partly responsible for keeping weather the way it is. We need to let it go. If we don't let it go, the world will drastically change. It's not our place. I can see this in it's eyes.”

“BUT IT'S A TORNADUS!” Eric cried out, clearly envious of the potential prize laid before them. “It could be the ultimate weapon against CIPHER!”

“And it's a weapon we are too ill equipped to use. We'd end up destroying Orre than saving it, using this Pokémon. We are lucky to be alive from this encounter.” Heather replied. It was then Tornadus was beginning to struggle out of its icy trap. “Tornadus, do you promise to leave Orre if we let you go?”

“Tornadus.” the Cyclone Pokémon said as it nodded.

“Thank you. It was fun battling you.” Heather replied. “Eric, thaw the ice.”

“Fine.” Eric said. “Charizard use a light flamethrower at the ice.”

Charizard did so willingly, and immediately the ice around Tornadus was melted. Kimi and Eric were ready for a counter offensive from the Pokémon but instead, Tornadus waved its arm and the three trainers ended up grabbing their right arms in a short but sharp pain. Heather took off her jacket and rolled up the sleeve to her red shirt. And right near the shoulder a tattoo like mark was now visible on her arm, It looked like a patter of a cyclone wrapped around her arm. Upon checking, both Kimi and Eric sported the same mark on their arms.

“What was that about?” Kimi cried out, nursing her arm in pain.

“I guess he does not want us to forget this encounter.” Heather said. She then bowed in respect to Tornadus. Immediately the Cyclone Pokémon picked up the winds around it and flew into the air. Before long it was already out of sight of the three trainers.

The trio looked around and was disappointed that CIPHER never was in Eclo canyon. As far as they could tell, only Gonzap, eight years ago was the last person to ever be in this part of the Orre region. So with that said, they recalled their Pokémon and made the walk back to the Outpost.

Chapter 12 - Friends Reunited

Sorry the last chapter was a little short. However hopefully you found it to be packed full of action. This chapter is to help show a lot more adventures are to come in this story of mine, and it is written in appriciation of those who have been fans of this story.

Chapter Twelve – Friends Reunited

“Well it was a great pleasure to travel with you the last few days.” Shawn said to Asuki. They were back in Saffron City and in front of the hospital where Andrea was checked in.

“I am glad that you did enjoy your time here in Kanto Shawn.” Asuki responded. “I am also glad that you did your best to protect the shrine, that snag machine, and myself for that matter. Promise me that you will make those two Pokémon good ones again.”

“I promise that.” Shawn replied. “Please travel safely back to Celadon.”

“I think I can promise that. Good bye and I look forward to seeing the trainer you mentioned.”

“Don't worry. Once this situation in the Orre region is over, Heather will one day make the journey to Kanto. I am sure of it.”

With that said the two hugged and Asuki, with her Leafeon right by her side, began to head west. With a final wave, Shawn then entered the hospital and made his way to Andrea's room.

When he arrived he was surprised to see Andrea dressed and out of bed. In fact, the room appeared to be very clean and tidy. It was clear the time had come for Andrea to check out.

“Shawn! You are finally back! I am glad to hear saving the Pokémon Net Center was a success.”

“I guess Professor Oak filled you in?”

“Yeah, he is here now and he is going to get us back to the Orre region today!”

“You mean, you are checked out?” Shawn asked with excitement.

“That is right! I am not suppose to be moving about too much for a few days but we can at least get back to Agate and to Heather.”

“Thank goodness.” I am glad we are all getting back on track. “Have you heard from Heather since she made the move to check out the CIPHER hideout?”

“Afraid not. However Professor Oak said he did have some news for us.”

“Good. When is he coming?”

“How about right now?” Said a familiar voice from behind. Professor Oak just entered the room.

“Good morning Professor.” Andrea said.

“Good morning. Feeling better Andrea?”

Andrea nodded. “Sure do Professor.”

“That is good, well then you just need to get some minor paperwork done and you are all out of here. I have our transportation ready so be quick about it.”

“We will Professor and thank you for watching over Shawn and me during our stay here.”

Heather, Kimi, and Eric finally emerged from the mouth of the Eclo Canyon. Heather was looking pretty happy despite the mission to find CIPHER's hideout was not a success. The sun was beginning to set and the desert was finally cooling down.

“I guess that was an amazing day even though we didn't find what we were looking for.” Kimi said.

“Yes, that was definitely a battle I do not think any of us will forget.” Eric said. One could tell in the sound of his voice he was a bit disappointed from not being able to capture the Tornadus.

“It was definitely a reminder how we must always respect the power of Pokémon, and why we must use our power to defeat CIPHER.” Heather said.

“Indeed.” Kimi replied.

Low breezes blew as they finally could see the lights of the Outpost. The sun was producing its final rays of light as it sank into the western mountains. Heather wished she could make it back home so she could enjoy her own bed. Her arm that was broken was starting to feel tender again. However since there was no reliable night transport from the Outpost to Agate, they would have to sleep at Kimi's house.

The sun finally disappeared but they were still a half a mile away from the Outpost's city limits. It was then a hoverbike appeared from the North and started to approach them. A Pokémon Ranger was approaching them. They stopped to greet him as he and his Pachirisu dismounted the bike.

“Hello there kids.” The ranger said. “Would one of you by chance be Heather from Agate Village?”

“Hello. My name is Heather.” she said as she walked toward him.

“It's nice to meet you. My leader, Gonzap requested that I checked up on you to make sure you were alright. He apparently said you were on a quest in the Eclo Canyon. Is that correct?”

“Yes, however we did not find what we sought. However we did find the cause of the storm that was building up in there and stopped it for good.”

“That is good to know. I am sure Gonzap will be happy to hear this news. Are you all okay to make it back to the Outpost?”

“I believe so. It has been a long day for all of us though.” Heather said.

“I would agree. With it night out I will escort you all back to the Outpost then.”

“Thank you.” Kimi said.

“Yes thank you. We appreciate the company.” Heather said and with that the three trainers and the ranger safely made the final leg to the Outpost.

Meanwhile, in the same dark office of the evil Nascour, Ein entered the room approaching the dark master. It was clear that Ein was irritated and possibly afraid.

“Is there something to report Ein?” Nascour asked.

“Yes sir. Bad news. The CIPHER agent sent to the Kanto region has been arrested by Kanto police. He failed to steal the snag machine and he lost his Shadow Pokémon.”

“Blast it Ein, why the heck do pay these idiots? Our great master will not appreciate failure if this continues. Those children must be stopped!”

“I agree. Also reports are coming in that the mysterious storm over the old Team Snag'em hideout has ended. There is no reports of any continuing activity there. We suspect a powerful wild Pokémon may have been causing the storm.”

“Is that so. Well it seems the one diversion that was gifted to us is now gone. What is the status of the factory?”

“Completed operations. All 200 Shadow Pokémon are created. 20 of them are the XD's you ordered. I will remind you even XD's are vulnerable to purification if done correctly, so even if they are more powerful, they are just as much of a target as the next.”

“I know that.” Nascour said with haste. “What about the CH Prototypes?”

“All of them are responding good, there seems to be no stimuli that can purify their hearts. However I will appreciate any further testing on any of them as I have the time with them. I can say they should all be ready for field duty though. In addition, I have selected four more to become CH. That will leave just enough power for now to create one more.”

“I know and make sure you leave that last spot open for someone special I have in mind.”

“If you can tell me I can make the appropriate preparations.”

“All in good time Ein.” Nascour said with a sneer. “Time right now is still on our side and our army is almost complete. Soon not only the Orre region, but the entire nation will be ours.”

Kimi's house was small to say the least, an decrepit old trailer. While it was clear Kimi's family was not the most fortunate, they could say to be the happiest in the region. After Eric parted ways to return to Phenac on his Charizard, Heather was greeted by Kimi's parents. Heather was treated to an amazing dinner with fried poultry, corn, mashed potatoes, and the sweetest iced tea Heather ever had. After a long conversation in regards to the battle that took place this afternoon, along with the adventures (and drama) Heather and her friends have gone through in the last few weeks.

Heather was treated to a evening concert from Kimi's father who played the banjo. He along with the family pet, a growlithe, spent near to an hour singing (or more like howling sometimes) at the moon. Finally curfew came, and the exhausted trainers retired to Kimi's room. Heather was provided a comfortable sleeping bag that seemed to be handmade, by Kimi's mother, since she was making a quilt during Kimi's father's music. Before long they were both asleep.

It was the dead of night, though when Heather started to stir in bed. Deep inside her mind, something terrible was happening. In her dream she found herself in an extremely dark passage. It seemed like it was underground. Heather was alone and had none of her Pokémon with her. There was nothing in the passage but a glim light ahead. The light did not look comforting either, but something told her she had to go to it. She was walking, and then from behind, she heard a machine, a motor of sorts. She then heard Andrea's voice. “HEATHER! PLEASE DON'T GO!” When she tried to turn around, she saw the same woman who attacked the lab. Then it was over.

Heather opened her eyes only to find herself in a cold sweat and her heart racing. She looked around the room and felt disoriented that she was not in her own. Soon she realized, she was in Kimi's house and recalled the events of the day. She even started to hear Houndoom howling in the dark of the night outside of the town. She got up and looked out of the small window which looked to the Northeast. All she could see was dark mountains that she never explored entirely before, she knew the Mountain Poke Spot was not too far off from here, however she felt something darker laid beyond that.

“Something is not right here. Why were they after me?” Heather said to herself. She began to look back at the attack on the lab. She pictured everything clearly.

Ow! It hurts.”

What hurts Heather?” Shawn asked.

My leg, I think it’s broken.” Heather said. It was clear she was in intense pain as tears drenched her face.

Then why not fall down into my men’s arms?” said a feminine voice.

“They know about my ability already. That much is clear, but that would just be more justification to stop me, they are trying to kidnap me. Just like they tried to kidnap my mother. Could they want to hurt me because of my ability? Why?” As she continued to think about it, she started to get scared. However deep inside her heart, she felt she was the only one who stood a chance at defeating CIPHER. With that said she returned to her sleeping bag and managed to find sleep again.

It was the next day and Heather, Eric, and Kimi were at the lab, despite it only being a few weeks. Lab was already starting to look normal. There were still parts being reconstructed from the attack, however virtually everywhere was accessible again and most systems were back online. Everyone was outside looking down a road that led to Gateon Port.

“Are they here yet?” Heather asked.

“No.” said Eric stagnantly.

A few minutes passed. “Are they here yet?” Heather asked.

*sigh* “No...”

However it was not long when Heather, Kimi, and Eric finally could hear the sound of a hovercraft. Before they knew it, a white hovercraft that looked very different from that of Shawn's appeared from the woods onto the straightaway that led to the lab. In that time, Heather's smile was growing bigger. Shawn and Andrea were in the back seat while Krane was driving.

“Andrea! Shawn!” Heather cried out and started to race for the hovercraft. Professor Krane brought the vehicle to a stop. Heather jumped and hugged Andrea tightly while she was in tears. “Andrea! I am so sorry. I never meant for you to get hurt.”

“It's okay Heather, please don't cry.” Andrea replied. “We promised we are in this together... forever okay?”

“I know but I don't want to see you hurt.”

“I won't be anymore. I promise.” Andrea said with a smile.

Heather then looked up at Shawn. “Thank you so much for taking care of her.”

“I have no choice.” Shawn said. “You and Andrea are family to me."

“As you are to me. We are together again, and this time it will be forever.”

Heather then grab all of her Poke Balls. “Come on out everyone!”

The rest of the day at the lab was in celebration. Everyone's Pokémon was out playing. Latias would play a brilliant aerial game of tag with Eric's Charizard and Shawn's Flygon. Riolu, Furret, Buizel, and Linoone were racing around the lab's paths outside. Many others were either playing with scientists or with their trainers. Meanwhile, Heather used the purification chamber to place Shawn's Yanmega into the 2nd ring and Haxorus on the 3rd. After setting up her small Pokémon to a decent flow, she looked up and said “That's another one on its way to being happy.” In that moment, a bell sounded in the chamber.

“Good news.” Professor Krane voice said in the chamber. “The Blaziken is ready to open it's heart.”

“Then let's do it.” Heather said as she switched over to different rooms. Before her the Blaziken was in the center and her other Pokémon stood still. She looked at the Blaziken who had the slightest bit of shadow enveloped in it. “Blaziken, do you know who you are?”

“Blaziken.” The Pokémon said softly as it nodded.

“You want to open up don't you? You feel sorry?”

“Blaziken.”

Meanwhile outside of the chamber, Krane said, “Okay Heather I am going to bring up a representation of a tablet, along with the translation, you just need to read the words and...”

However before he could finish, Heather opened up her arms and said out loud, “Na va que! Na va que! Shai quo ta nopa!”

“How did she?” Krane said in excitement.

Blaziken started in shine in bright light and in a flash the lights on the walls shined in wave to the ceiling, the lights converged and shot down on Blaziken. It was in a flash of light any traces of the shadow was expelled, and Blaziken was on its knee. Heather dropped her arm after being blinded by the light and watched Blaziken cry out its battle cry. “BLAZIKEN!”

“It worked!” Heather said! “It really worked! Blaziken is back to normal.”

It was then Blaziken then faded out from the center of the ring, quickly followed by her other Pokémon.

“What happened?” Heather said with a slight concern. The room became dark and quiet again.

“It's alright.” said Professor Krane's voice. “When a Shadow Pokémon is purified, it is immediately sent back to the box storage system.

“Okay, of course. Well I guess I can come back now.” Heather said.
“Alright hang on.”

Heather once returning to reality, withdrew her Blaziken. She then came outside and released it into the open. Every applauded and cheered upon their first successful purification. Blaziken was back to normal. It was then Arcanine gave a battle cry and was looking Blaziken in the eye. It was clear to Heather what Arcanine wanted.

“Blaziken, Arcanine wants to settle the score. You two never battled in that match.”

In a few moments a space on the nearby field was cleared out. Everyone from the lab came out to watch. Every trainer recalled their Pokémon except for Heather's Blaziken and Arcanine which now stood at opposite ends of the makeshift battlefield. Heather was on the sidelines.

“Okay you two, try to do the best you can but I am not giving any commands so you are on your own.”

Both Pokémon nodded as they started to growl.

Heather raised her hands and after a moment threw them down. “BEGIN!”

Immediately both charged after each other, Blaziken used a Fire Punch while Arcanine used a Take Down attack. Both attacks seem to hit each other and both were knocked back. Then both started to chase and evade each other. It was several volleys back and forth. At one moment the battle almost went to a few of Krane's assistants who watch from the corner nearest the lab.

“Wow that Blaziken is strong.” Andrea said. “But it is having trouble hitting Arcanine.”

“Yes.” Heather replied. “Arcanine is way better trained, I have had it for ages now.”

It was then Blaziken took a hard hit from another Take Down attack.

“Oh no!” Andrea said. Heather could hear the slight panic in Andrea's voice and started to smile.

The battle was nearing conclusion, Blaziken was starting to wear out while Arcanine was holding its ground. Blaziken knew the time had come to make one final attack otherwise it would lose. Taking a deep breath it launched a Fire Blast attack.

“Wow a Fire Blast!” Shawn said.

Arcanine countered with the same attack. Both shields of flame hit each other and for a moment, were fighting to overcome the other. Then both exploded and the blast was sent everywhere. Some of the spectators including Krane was knocked to the ground from the shock wave. Smoke filled the area. Once it cleared, one could see some flowers and blades of grass on the meadow slightly burning but quickly going out. Blaziken and Arcanine was starting at each other standing, but in a few moments, Blaziken fell to the ground.

“Arcanine wins.” Heather said.

Andrea rushed to the Blaziken, and Arcanine ran to Heather, upon it was praised by its trainer. Heather recalled Arcanine back into its Poke Ball and walked to Blaziken which it was being helped up by Andrea.

“Blaziken are you alright?” Andrea was asking as she tried to prop it up.

Heather smiled and stretched out a hand to Blaziken, it grabbed her hand and she got Blaziken back on her feet. “You are very strong Blaziken. I am glad to see you are on our team.”

“Blaziken.” the Pokémon said weakly.

“Blaziken, would you want to be Andrea's Pokémon? She needs a strong one like you to watch over her.” Heather asked.

“Heather are you serious?” Andrea asked.

Blaziken looked at Andrea and it seemed it could see her innocence in her eyes. “Blaziken.” it said as it nodded.

“But why me?” Andrea asked.

“Because I feel this is the right thing to do. I can sense you have a connection with Blaziken, and I will feel better because I will know it will do everything in it's power to protect you.”

Andrea started to cry. “Okay Heather, I promise to take care of Blaziken.”

Shawn, Andrea, Heather, Kimi, Lindsey, and Eric were all back in Agate Village. The sun was starting to set and Kimi and Eric were prepared to make the trip back to eastern Orre.

“Thank you for helping me out you two. It has been fun the last couple of days.” Heather said.

“Indeed.” Eric said. “But do not think this is the last we will be seeing of each other.”

“I sure hope not!” Kimi said. “I still need to beat Heather at the next tournament.”

“If you can get past the semi-final ever.” Eric said with a sneer.

“Jerk.” Kimi replied with a whimper.

The three hugged and then Heather watched as both called out their powerful flying Pokémon and took off into the ruby colored sky. She then turned to her friends, and looked up at her home in the tree above. “Well, we are home.”

Chapter Thirteen - The Abandoned Factory

Chapter Thirteen – The Abandoned Factory

The night was one of the most peaceful Heather had ever slept. For the first time in very long time she was awake before the break of dawn and watched the sunrise emerge from her patio in her home. After cleaning up, she came down to find her grandmother and Lindsey who once again stayed the night in Agate making breakfast. There were five place settings and it was clear that Shawn and Andrea would be joining them for breakfast. Heather was needlessly excited because she could smell the familiar smell of her grandmother making waffles. Lindsey was working on the stove cooking eggs and bacon.

It was not long before Shawn and Andrea did arrive. Andrea was especially chipper and Shawn was trying to convince her to take it easy. Heather could only laugh. It was during breakfast they began to finally plan their first move against CIPHER.

“So as I told you both yesterday, the eastern end of the Eclo Canyon was not where CIPHER was hiding.” Heather said.

“Yeah, it's a shame that Tornadus decided to reap trouble on the region. It must have really thrown us off the track now.” Andrea replied.

“Indeed, and CIPHER now has had a little over a week to make preparations against the region and us.” Shawn said.

“What leads we have are weak at best.” Heather said. “There is an old abandoned research lab that we could check out for answers. Apparently, it was used by CIPHER before and we know where it is.”

Shawn then stepped in, “Yes, but according to reports from our friends. It looks like it has not been used for years now.”

“Perhaps, but I still want a throughout look sometime. It may leave evidence of all of CIPHER's hideouts in the past, and that might mean some of them might be getting used today.”

“It's an idea for sure.” Lindsey said. “But would it not be safer for everyone to just wait for CIPHER to make a move first?”

“I don't think so. We tried to play it safe by getting the snag machine out of the region when we were attacked and that almost blew up in our faces.” Heather said. “While we have all made a quiet return into society, I am not willing to bet that CIPHER thinks we are still bedridden. Even Andrea is ready to be on the move again.”

It was then Heather's P-DA was ringed on the table. An e-mail had just arrived. She picked up her device and opened the message. It was from Corison.

Dear Heather,

I am very thankful to hear all of you have safely returned home to Agate. I have news that is very important. The floods that were blocking the passage to the old CIPHER factory have stopped recently. However no one has been able to check the passage leading to the factory. If CIPHER was there they may have just abandoned it. However they may still be there.

Please let me know if you go there and please be safe.

Corison

“We've got to go! The passage to the old factory Krane told me about is now open again. CIPHER may be on the move.”

The trio quickly cleaned up, and packed their things. Shawn and Andrea rushed ahead, while Heather e-mailed Krane with the news. She also took the time to e-mail Eric and Kimi to stand by in case they get into trouble. Then after hearing the horn on Shawn's hovercraft sound, she raced out the door, and like her old self, jumped off the edge, landing perfectly in the back seat.”

“You didn't freak out this time Anderea.” Heather said as Shawn started to take off.

“Eh... I was kind of expecting it.” Andrea giggled. This left Heather smiling.

Meanwhile, Nascour was in his dark office alone in solitude. His eyes were closed, clearly meditating on his thoughts. His hands gripped the chair to the point where if the arm rests were not made of metal, they would break. He was in this state when the evil sounding chime came from the darkness.

“Enter.” Nascour commanded.

The scientist Ein once again entered the chamber. After saluting, he handed a document to the evil master. “Sir, the evacuation on the factory is complete. No trace of current whereabouts is there, and our trap is in place.”

“And the workers?”

“Sent to the detention center in the Deep as you have requested. Except for here all of our operation is now in full effect there.”

“Excellent. Report to me when you have the girl.” Nascour commanded.

“Yes sir, Lovrina will not fail this time.”

Shawn seemed to be driving the hovercraft faster than usual. Heather looking around saw plateaus fly by so fast she could not make out the patterns in them like usual. A couple of wild desert Pokémon were even running out of the way dodging the hovercraft. She knew Shawn was going as fast as his ride could safely allow when she saw Realgam Tower to the South within twenty minutes.

“Shawn aren't you pushing your ride a little too hard? I want to get there fast, but not stall out in the process.” Heather asked.

“Don't worry. When I went home to Pyrite, the local mechanic worked on the hovercraft a lot when we were all out of action. He said the engine is like new again.”

“Really? That is totally radical!” Andrea replied.

Heather then leaned forward and whispered in Shawn's ear. “Do you know anyone who says Radical anymore?”

“Um... no.” Shawn replied.

“What is it?” Andrea then asked, jumping in.

“Nothing!” Heather and Shawn said at the same time.

The trio eventually stopped at the Outpost. They were greeted by Kimi at the lone gas station who brought bottles of water and chocolate chip cookies from her mother. As Shawn was refilling the tank, Andrea shopped around the tiny diner which was converted from an old train engine, whereas Heather studied the map near the door looking at their destination. She followed the small region road which led up to the Mountain Poke Spot however after which ended abruptly. She then turned to the muscular cook standing behind the counter.

“Excuse me sir. Does this road lead anywhere beyond the Mountain Poke Spot?” Heather asked.

“Hmm... that road? No. Not that I know of. I think there is a private road that is part of a ranch or something. But no there is no public road beyond that.”

“I see. Thank you sir.”

“No problem miss. By the ways, do you need any Poke Balls? I have lots of them in stock. Real popular for those who visit the Poke Spot. Betcha you might be a good trainer of some of them critters up there.”

Heather giggled and shook her head. “No thank you. I am good for now.” She took pleasure in being one of the first days in a long time of not being recognized as a media icon to the general public. She then left the diner while Andrea started to ring out her merchandise which consisted of mostly snacks and a new pair of sunglasses.

Shawn finished fueling the vehicle while Heather studied her P-DA. Andrea was working to get settled in the vehicle when Heather started to speak.

“It is strange. There is no marked roads up North that lead us to where we need to go.”

“Up North you say?” said a man sitting at a bench next to the entrance of the diner.

“Yeah? Do you know that area?” Heather asked with excitement.

“Sure do, that you shouldn't go any farther North than the Poke Spot up there. I went up there once to find some Pokémon to train with my Linoone and Zigzagoon and accidentally took a wrong turn somewhere and got greeted by this rough and tough trainer with a nasty Zangoose. Given a thrashing that I will never forget.”

“Really? Did this happen recently?” Shawn asked.

“Oh no... this was when I was still serious about Pokémon training and that was when I was a teenager much like you three, about fifteen years ago.”

“Fifteen years huh? Okay sir, that is a big help and we will be careful.” Heather said with a smile.

Shawn finished up with the fueling and the three headed North. Heather then pulled out her P-DA again and started to study the region map in detail. She zoom in on the Poke Spot and studied the topography.

“There is appears to be a tight canyon a few dozen feet Northwest of the Poke Spot entrance.” Heather said. “That might be where we need to go. Lets get to the Poke Spot and the vehicle can be parked here since it looks like it won't go farther than that. I will leave a message for Corison, Eric and Kimi to try and find us if we don't check in by nightfall. Agreed?”

“Agreed.” Shawn said.

“You get no complaints out of me. It's a good thing I brought my good hiking boots for this.” Andrea said.

Upon their arrival they found a secluded place to leave their vehicle near the Poke Spot, as they started to head up what was left of the main road, they could see a Larvitar and a Sandshrew picking off what might have been the remainder of Poke Bait some trainer left behind a few days ago. As they passed by, the wild Pokémon scampered into the rocks that surrounded them, disappearing from sight. Heather looked up in the sky and saw the clouds were remaining clear. The Tornadus she encountered a few days ago clearly has left the area and the land for the moment was returning to normal. Before they realized it they came to the end of the road.

Heather looked around and found that walls of the canyon surrounded them, however just past the barricade which ended the road, Heather saw there was a small overlap from one side of the canyon over the other. It was deceptive to anyone who saw it at first glance. A perfect path to hiding something you did not want to be found by prying eyes.

“This is it. This is the passage we figured out on the map.” Heather said. “Come on and have your Pokémon ready. No sense in finding any surprises and not be ready to handle them.”

The other two nodded as Heather made the lead. The passage was tight to say the least. Most of the time, the trainers would hold onto both sides of the wall as they made their way up the narrow path. Some parts of the path opened into small ravines and one false step would mean being trapped below. It was about a quarter of a mile into the passage, when Shawn did take a bad step.

“Whoa!” Shawn yelled as he started to slide. He quickly stepped his feet against the opposing wall from the ledge of the path, and the girls quickly grabbed his arms.

“Shawn, you are too heavy.” Andrea was shouting, clearly in pain from holding him. It was obvious she was not in good physical condition from the recent surgery to be doing any form of heavy lifting.

“Riolu! We need you!” Heather commanded as she quickly let go of one her hands to grab the fourth Poke Ball from her bag, immediately tossing the ball out and releasing Riolu. Riolu then grabbed the Shawn's left arm that Andrea was holding on to and took over.

“Hey why did I not think of that? Come help us Blaziken!” Andrea said as she pulled out her Poke Ball from her bag.

Blaziken came out and nearly crushed a part of the ledge from it's landing. However with its strength, Shawn was pulled back to safety. The three trainers took a moment to catch their breaths.

“Is... everyone... okay?” Heather said while gasping for air.

“I am okay.” Shawn said. “Just have a higher heart rate for a moment. You Andrea?”

“I... think so.” Andrea said, however it was clear she was in a cold sweat.

“No you are not.” Heather countered. “You look exhausted. Blast it, I should not have pushed you so hard.”

“Not true.” Andrea said as she grabbed Heather's hand. “We need each other to do this. You need us. If Shawn was on his own, he might be dead now. We are a team.”

“Yes... but perhaps we should have stayed home for a few more days.”

“You know we don't have the time. If we don't get to that factory that is rumored to be up this path. We may lose any chance of finding CIPHER before it is too late.”

“True...” Heather said as she looked down. “Let's get moving.” With that Heather and Andrea recalled their Pokémon and the trio continued the trek up the passage.”

It was about another half mile when this time Heather almost slipped, however she quickly regained her footing, the path looked different and there was a large cavern below them. The stone walls around them no longer appeared jagged but instead looked smooth.

“This is where the flooding was.” Heather said and she then pointed to a opening above them on their side of the narrow canyon. “Look up there, that must have been the mouth of the waterfall that poured into the canyon below.”

“We must not be far now.”

“Indeed, however with this slick rock I think we need a little protection.” Heather said as she called out her Latias. “Latias. Watch over us as we cross this path. If any of us starts to fall, use Psychic to bring us to safety. Okay?” Latias nodded. The trio started to make their way.

As they made their way, Shawn started to notice the texture in the rock starting to change. “Heather, there appears to be little bubble like openings in the rock here. It feels more like a very hard cork here. I have never seen rock like this before.”

“Yeah you are right. That is weird.” She then picked up a pebble from the path below them with the same texture and placed it in her bag. “Professor Krane has a geologist back at the lab. Maybe she can tell us what is with this rock when we get back.”

It was beyond this discovery the remaining trip in the narrow passage continued without incident. It was a full mile before they made it to the end. The passage finally opened up and the three found themselves on top of the Northern end of the Eclo canyon. What laid before them was a large purple colored pyramid that seem to float above a dried-up lake. The lake bed showed the same signs of the visible pattern as the rock in the passage below. The pyramid was suspended by four extremely large chains and a lone bridge appeared to make its way to the entrance. There were fire lanterns on each side of the bridge, all of them extinguished. There was no sign of life of any kind. No humans, no Pokémon, and there were no live Joshua trees or cacti in the area. Any remaining plant life in the area was completely dead. Heather found the remains of a tree nearby and took a piece of its withered branch and packed it in her bag.

“Something bad happened here. Something really bad.” Heather said.

As Andrea looked around she started to break out in a sweat again and before the others realized what was happening, Andrea started to scream in terror and she cringed to the ground.

“No! No! Run!” Andrea screamed.

“Andrea! ANDREA!” Heather yelled grabbing Andrea by the shoulders trying to shake her out of her fit. Before long she came to and reopened her eyes.

“They polluted this place, Pokémon fled for their lives. The water was dangerous... poisonous.” Andrea said as she cried. “Their home here was destroyed, everything.”

“Andrea how could you...” Shawn said as he looked at her with the deepest concern.

“I don't know. It was like a flood of emotions came over me, as if the Pokémon who lived here communicated this to me.” Andrea started to cry again. Heather continued to hug Andrea, while Shawn looked upon the gloomy pyramid that they would have to enter.

“This has gone far enough CIPHER.” Heather said as tears flooded her eyes. “I swear I will stop this war once and for all.”

Very good story from what I've read so far (3 chapters) though what I do have to say is that from what I've read so far, Heather seems to Mary Jane to me, too cookie cutter, too good. An example would be how she orders her Milotic along with how most if not all attacks do not hit her along with her 1-2 shotting her opponents. A small turn off for me as a reader, the character seeming too flat and boring too me at this point, though plot wise and writing wise this is one of the better Pokemon Fanfics that I have read in recent months.

I felt the same thing too as I am writing her and I am working on that through out the series. In Chapter 4, I think you will notice a considerable differance in the battle that chapter showcases. This is positive feedback I will seriously take into consideration. Though I do have plans to make the battles tougher as the story progresses, Heather and her friends are meant to be good trainers, however they will find tougher and tougher challenges as you progress through the story.

EDIT: Let it be noted Chapter 14 is being proofread right now and should be posted by this weekend!

Chapter 14 - Lovrina's Trap

Chapter Fourteen – Lovrina's Trap
The trio approached the entrance. The Pyramid shaped factory was suspended by four large chains from each corner. It was a dark purple in color and black conduits shaped its design. A bridge allowed passage to the entrance and it hovered over the dried up lake bed below. Upon it's approach the three teenagers realized the true war was about to begin.

“How do we get in?” Shawn asked.

“We could always knock.” Heather replied.

“Okay... and what do we do then?”

“I don't know.”

“What about that damaged ventilation panel there. Look.” Andrea said as she interrupted.

To the right of them was a ventilation shaft. It was about twenty feet off the bridge. It appeared the paneling was ripped off partly from the high winds that Orre usually bears. Heather approached the panel and looked around. She even brushed her hand across the surface of the pyramid and shook her head.

“This metal is slick and the grade is too sharp.” Heather said. “We'd fall off if we tried to crawl over there.”

“What if we used our Pokémon?” Andrea asked. “No one is in sight as far as we can tell. In fact the place appears abandoned.”

“True. However if there is surveillance and they can see what they are dealing with. Then they might be able to counter it.” Shawn commented.

“But what if we use a Pokémon that isn't trained for battle.” Heather then said quietly. She then pulled out her P-DA and opened the recently installed mobile phone app.

Back at the laboratory, Krane was sitting at his desk, reading a file on his computer. There was a picture of a young girl with red hair, pulled back in small pigtails and with shining blue eyes. It was in this moment his office phone was ringing. Without hesitation he answered.

“Orre research laboratory. Professor Krane here.”

“Professor Krane. It's Heather, I need an favor.” Heather said over the line. It was clear the connection was poor as it was mostly static.

“Yes Heather anything but speak very clearly, I am barely picking you up, the singal from where you are calling from is poor at best.”

“Okay. I am sending a request for an emergency Pokémon transfer. Can you respond immediately?”

“Yes I will have my team on it immediately.” Professor Krane replied. “Anything else?”

“No. I think that will be it.” Heather replied. “Thanks.” The connection then broke off.

Heather closed the mobile app and then opened her Trainer Access app on her P-DA and sent a transfer request. She then pulled out Milotic's Poke Ball. “Sorry friend, but I don't think you can help me today. Krane will take care of you.” It was then the ball disappeared out of sight and a new one appeared in her hand. “I choose you, Sandshrew.”

“Sandshrew? Didn't you accidentally capture that fellow a year ago in the Mountain Poke Spot?” Andrea asked.

“Yep. But I found a special talent for every one of my Pokémon even though most have not been in battle.” Heather said.

“Shrew!” Sandshrew said in praise at the sight of it's trainer.

“Okay Sandshrew. Remember how we used to rock climb together. I need your help to find a way to get to that ledge there.” Heather said as she pointed to the ventilation shaft.

“Shrew! Sandshrew!” Sandshrew said as it began to climb up the side of the pyramid. It then would stop for moments and then point to hand holds. Heather then immediately started to climb on the sides of the pyramid. The path was rather zig zag up and down the sides of the Pyramid however, after a few minutes she made the final leap and landed safely on the ledge in the ventilation shaft.

Before long everyone made their way thanks to Heather's small mouse Pokémon. “Thanks Sandshrew. That was a big help.” She then recalled it as it gave one final wave. She then looked into the shaft and could only see darkness. “Okay then. There is no choice now. Go Chandelure!”

This was Heather's sixth Pokémon of her usual team. Immediately the appearance of the mysterious luring Pokémon caused the tight corridor to be illuminated by a eerie twilight like glow, however it was adequate enough to provide the illumination necessary to enter the passage.

“From here on out, we are on our own.” Heather stated. “I had a terrible signal talking to Professor Krane just then, and from here on out I expect any chance of getting a signal out will result in failure.”

“I'd say if we don't find any evidence of CIPHER or their whereabouts in the next hour, we get out, and fall back to home.” Shawn said. Andrea quickly nodded.

“Agreed.” Heather replied and with that said the trio with Chandelure taking the lead, entered the dark pyramid.

The shaft barely was adequate for their passage into the dark building. It was already obvious the ventilation system was not being used extensively from the building amounts of dust and cob webs left by Spinarak and other bug Pokémon that might have been lurking inside. They were about a hundred feet inside, when they came to a ventilation panel on the left. Heather approached it and from the slightest touch it fell off and crashed onto the ground.

“That didn't go according to plan.” Heather said.

“If anyone is here. There is a good chance they know we are here now.” Andrea commented.

The trio dropped out of the ventilation duct and into what appeared to be a small office. The office seem to have four desks and each of them appeared to be ransacked. There was insignificant scraps of paper lying around on the floor, dust also covered the room in here.

“It feels like the place has been abandoned.” Heather said.

“At least we are in a safe room for the most part.” Shawn replied. “It has direct access outside from the air duct. We can use the furniture as a step to re-enter it and make our escape if necessary.”

“True. However I feel as long we are in this building, no place is truly safe. Lets keep going.” Heather replied.

Heather found a electronic door. With no electric power, it did not open. Heather then felt around the sides and found what appeared to be an emergency access panel and broke open into it. There she discovered a manual override lever and she pulled it to crank open the door.

They found themselves in a larger room now. Filled with conveyor belts, machines and other various work room equipment. Now all of which appeared abandoned. Like everywhere else the room was dark, and only Chandelure's light provide any sight for the three trainers.

“Let's try to find a passage to the upper floors. I am guessing any administration offices will be at the top.” Heather said.

The three started to work around the passage check every door for a way to the upper floors. The pyramid was more like a maze than an actual factory. There was no clear organization to the building and the passage was very linear with no short cuts. Each new room was no different than the last, mostly filled with empty shelves and abandoned office furniture. A empty box would be found here and there, however there was no clue to any of CIPHER's whereabouts. Eventually the end of the passage laid before them and a flight of stairs led to a dark room above them.

Before they started to climb it, Chandelure's light illuminated a poster behind them. It appeared to be a work schedule with current dates. Heather stopped and studied the poster.

“Look at this, this poster appears to be a schedule for the workers in this factory.” Shawn said. “All of the shifts seem to be keeping the place running at full steam up until here, the second of the month. That was eight days ago. What were we doing then?”

“Clinging on for life. That was the day Andrea lost her human heart.” Heather said with the most serious tone. “They knew they had to rush operations. They must have gotten out of here within the week. Alright. Let's go.”

The trio entered the second floor and the sight found was terrifying. Before them was a massive laboratory. Several large tubes were fitted along the walls and in the aisle ways. Some still contained a purple liquid inside. In the center of the room, there was a large machine and in the center appeared to be a place setting for some large object.

“This was it. This was the place where they made Shadow Pokémon.” Heather said terrified.

“I wonder what is suppose to go here.” Andrea said.

“No clue. Might be some object in a diamond like shape. Maybe a gem to redirect lasers for some purpose.” Heather said as she pointed to several extensions that emerged from the ceiling.

The next floor contained what appeared to be administration offices, however despite a throughout search, no documents were left behind detailing CIPHER's whereabouts. The trio of teenagers then opened a door which lead to a stairwell that led above onto the balcony outside. The wind picked up and was pounding heat and sand on the trainers.

“Well at least we have an escape route from here.” Shawn said.

“Not funny.” Andrea said terrified from the view below.

“Look there.” Heather interrupted. “That must be the manager office.” She pointed to a small pyramid shape penthouse, that was in the center of the building and above them. The three trainers made their way up the stairs and approached the entrance.

Heather then pointed to the other two to stand aside from the door and she then moved to the other side where an access panel was visible. She then mouthed out “Wait there.” She then press the button and the door came to life and opened.

She peeked her head around the wall and looked into darkness, she was tempted to call out her Chandelure in again however she left that may not be a wise decesion. She instead whispered to her friends. “Hang tight until I check it out.” Upon entering she could start to make out the room. It was mostly empty however a desk laid before them. She started to make her way to it. It was then, the unexpected happened.

A large bright beam came shooting out of the floor and ripped across the path where Heather walked across. Heather barely jumped ahead out of the way. Andrea and Shawn came around the bend. Heather looked back and saw her half of the floor was tipping down and the desk was sliding toward her. She rolled to the side, dodging it. She then watched it slide off the edge of the opening now ripped in the floor and saw it come crashing down to the factory level. It was then she saw a familiar face.

“It's that woman that attacked the lab.” Heather said. She realized the long pink hair was unmistakable. The woman had a strange Pokémon next to her, it appeared to look like floating cat-like creature with a pink colored head and two tails.

“Heather are you alright?” Andrea asked.

“Yes I am. Hang tight there and get ready to catch me as I jump back over.” Heather said.

It was then the woman started to shout up to Andrea and Shawn. “I am terribly sorry but this is between Heather and myself. You two should run back where you came from. Now Mesprit.”

The Emotion Pokémon started to glow black and immediately shot out a dark ball of energy at Heather's friends. “Shadow Ball! Watch out!” Shawn said as he grabbed Andrea by the arm and ran out of the wrecked room. The explosion hit the ceiling and began ripping the roof apart. Smoke then covered the view overhead, cloaking Shawn and Andrea from sight.

“Pathetic kids.” The woman whispered. It was then she realized she let her guard down and above and to the right of her, Heather's Scyther emerged from the smoke and struck the Mesprit with full force, knocking it to the ground. It was then Heather made a rolling landing onto the factory floor and stood next to Scyther after it landed.

“Just who are you?!” Heather demanded. “You have no right to use Pokémon to attack humans.”

“I am Lovrina and I intend to bring the joy of ruling the world with Shadow Pokémon!” She said as she danced around. “I am here to capture you too!”

“Not a chance!” Heather said. She then caught a good look at the rare Mesprit and saw it emerged in shadow. “No... no... not another one...” Heather said weakly. “How could you!?” Heather cried out and she burst into tears.

“Yes! Let my Mesprit allow your emotions to control you.” The woman then replied realizing the advantage she had. “Now use Shadow Blast.”

Mesprit then emitted a dangerous blast of energy that consumed Scyther. Before Heather realized what had happened, Scyther was slammed against the wall behind her and fell to the ground knocked out.

“No... Scyther...” Heather said and started to cry again.

It was then she was grabbed by the collar by Lovrina and slammed to the wall next to where Scyther lay. Lovrina's strength was beyond human being able to lift a girl roughly the same size as her. Lovrina then took off her helmet and whispered into Heather's ear. “It's over. Just surrender to CIPHER and I will make sure your emotions won't hurt you again.”

“Leave me alone...” Heather said. “I can fight you.” Tears drenched Heather's face and her heart was racing in fear.

“No. You are out of your league dear. You are nothing like your father or your mother. Only by joining CIPHER will you find the true meaning of your power.”

“NO!” Heather screamed and in that moment she pulled out one of her Poke Balls and threw it in the air. “Latias, help me!”

Latias immediately shot out of the ball and in a split second used a blast of its Psychic energy directly at Lovrina, which was powerful enough to knock her off her feet allowing Heather to escape and recall her fallen Scyther.

“No more Lovrina. You know nothing of what it means to be a Pokémon Trainer. Latias!” Heather said as she pointed to Mesprit.

Latias shot at Mesprit with full speed and slashed at it using Dragon Claw. Immediately the Pokémon fell to the ground, and Heather wasted no time at the opportune moment as she threw her first snag ball. It hit the Mesprit and after several moments and an explosion from Lovrina's Poke Ball that held Mesprit, the Pokémon was captured.

“Curse you. I will just have to get my XD back from capturing you after defeating you in battle. Go Sawk and Arbok.”

The two Pokémon appeared before Heather, however after a brief inspection. She determined, they were not Shadow Pokémon. “Fine then, let's settle this. Latias return, Gardevoir and Riolu, lets finish this.

Arbok immediately tried to charge at Riolu attempting to eat it in one bite, however it jumped out of the way and then Gardevoir intervened and started to battle it. Riolu then ran under the legs of Sawk.

“Riolu, Jump Kick! Gardevoir psywave!” Heather commanded.

Riolu jumped up along the back side of Sawk in that moment and kicked the large Pokémon in the ribs knocking it down for a moment, while Gardevoir knocked back the Arbok with the suppression of its psychic energy.

“No you don't!” Lovrina shouted. “Arbok poison sting, and Sawk Focus Punch that girl.”

The two Pokémon obeyed and Arbok, instead of attacking Gardevoir, shot at Heather tiny poison barbs which started to hit at Heather. She covered her face with her arms, and when she tried to look up she saw the Sawk coming right at her. She dodged a punch that would have surely knocked her down, however instead the Sawk hit a pipeline which exploded and steaming water came pouring out. Some of it splashed on Heather's leg that was previously broken and she screamed in intense pain.

Her Pokémon immediately took over the battle, Gardevoir used psychic to shield the acid water that was pouring out and Heather crawled hastily out of danger. Riolu however did something more extraordinary. It screamed in rage, and turned white. Soon light shot out from all directions and grew bigger. Then thrusting its arms out shaking off the sparkles of light, the newly evolved Lucario emerged.

Lucario wasted no time in its new form. It tackled the Arbok with full force and knocked it over the side of the platform the battle took place on. Arbok fell to the ground and was knocked out. Lucario then focused on Sawk and immediately engaged it.

The two fought hard, however Lucario used a psychic-like sense to track Sawk's movements, and dodged every punch. Then before Sawk realized what happened, Lucario hit Sawk in its abdomen which knocked it back and without hestitating Lucario used an Aura Sphere to make the final blow, Sawk spun around in dizzyness and fell off the same edge as Arbok did as it fainted.

“No, that girl is mine!” Lovrina said and with her right hand she shot the same form of energy that she used in the lab.

The energy ball would have hit Lucario, however Gardevoir used Light Screen to reflect the attack. Then the two nodded and Gardevoir used it's own Shadow Ball attack while Lucario repeated another Aura Sphere and fired at Lovrina's location, making her flee.

Heather then started to get up. Choking, she started to laugh. “See my Pokémon are not tools like how you treat yours.” She coughed again. “They are my family.”

“Say what you will.” Lovrina replied as she leaped to higher ground. “I promise I will get my hands on you and you will serve CIPHER.” She then threw a smoke ball and disappeared.

“Get a life.” Heather said as she collapsed back on the floor grabbing her stinging leg. Lucario and Gardevoir then immediately rushed to her aid. “Oh Lucario, I am so proud of you. You fought your very best battle and you are now stronger than ever.” She touched Lucario's cheek as tears of joy filled her face. She then grabbed the snag ball that now contained the Mesprit. “It was all worth it.” The ball disappeared into thin air, which only made since as Heather already was equipped with six Pokémon. Lucario help lift Heather on to her one good foot and with it's help she started to limp to the main entrance.

Meanwhile outside the main entrance. Shawn was nursing a twisted leg while Andrea was scrambling around the main entrance look for a way to open the door. Her Blaziken was out of its Poke Ball and was now nursing bruised fists from trying to smash open the door.

“Oh Heather please be alright.” Andrea said as she felt along the door opening to find a secret switch or something. “Shawn why did you make us jump off the side of the pyramid like that.”

“Hey come on, I didn't see anymore what was in front of us than what you did from that explosion.” Shawn said.

It was then the door glowed blue and slowly was opening. Andrea stood back while Blaziken took position ready for battle. However, instead of attacking CIPHER peons that she expected, she soon lept for joy as Heather struggled her way out of the pyramid.

“Heather you are all right!” Andrea said. “Wait what happened to your leg?”

“Acid.” Heather said. They must use dangerous chemicals when they make Shadow Pokémon. “It's alright though. We just need to get back to the Outpost... ow.”

“Oh Heather, we seriously need to stop walking away from every mission with severe injuries.” Andrea said.

“Well it wasn't all that bad this time.” Heather said starting to laugh. “Besides, we foiled CIPHER's trap and that Lovrina girl received a thrashing she will never forget. Not to mention her Shadow Pokémon was stripped from her. That Mesprit was a Shadow Pokémon.”

“Wait a second.” Shawn interrupted. “What Pokémon is that?”

“Oh Riolu evolved! Isn't it great! He is now Lucario. When Lovrina's Pokémon, made that pipe explode and I got hurt, Riolu showed true loyalty and evolved when I needed it most. If it weren't for Gardevoir and Lucario here, I'd be in big trouble.” Heather said with joy.

The sun was starting to set and the trio made their way down the canyon carefully. Soon Heather was in the back seat of Shawn's hovercraft able to rest her burned leg. Shawn took the passenger seat and Andrea, who was uninjured from this trip, started to pull out of the Poke Spot parking area. The craft was then traveling South, and before long the three of them found their way to the Outpost.

Meanwhile, two Pokémon were on a plateau looking over the now destroyed pyramid as the sun started to set. One of the pyramid's chains broke, and the entire building fell into the empty lake bed. A few minor explosions broke out, and the last remants of the toxic waters stored in the building spewed onto the already decimated lake bed. Before long the building was quiet and wind started to pick up and sand began building up along the ruins. Once the final glimpse of direct sunlight disappeared in the western mountains, Sawk and Arbok took their separate ways, and would not be seen by any Pokémon trainer, ever again.

I will start reading this up now that I see that I'm dealing with a writer who can actually take critisism along with one who is willing to please the audience. -subscribes-

chap 13 mistake(s)

Heather then pulled out her P-DA again and started to study the region map in detail. She zoom in on the Poke Spot and studied the topography. "zoom" should be "zoomed"

With that Heather and Andrea recalled their Pokémon and the trio continued the trek up the passage.” <---- acidental qutation mark?

chap 14 mistake(s)

she was tempted to call out her Chandelure in again however she left that may not be a wise decesion
shouldnt it be "felt" istead of "left"?
