Simply put... I'm wondering how Ditto behaves in a 2-on-2 battle. Does the Ditto player declare which Pokemon its Ditto DNA Poke-Body refers to whenever Ditto becomes Active? What about at the start of a game? I'm assuming it can't just switch from one to the other unless the Pokemon it's copying isn't active anymore, so if an opponent has only one Pokemon in play, and then plays another one active, Ditto will still be copying the first one. Right?

If there are two Pokemon Active when Ditto becomes Active, it's player would have to declare which Pokemon it is copying. As long as both Ditto and that Pokemon are Active, Ditto retains that Pokemon's HP and attacks. You don't get to choose to switch over to the other Active at will.

Switches are instantaneous. So, if an Active that Ditto is copying moves to the bench and another Pokemon replaces it, then Ditto does not revert to Ditto but waits until the action is resolved and then gets to choose which of the new Acitves it will Copy.
