Double sleeving cards: Acceptable or not?

Is the frilly pattern a Pokemon design? No - that is covered in the floor rules regarding designs on sleeves.

Not subjective, basic floor rules. All sleeves used must be uniform and meet the rules. Frilly designs do not.

Creds - see below....

Wayne, take a quick look back at the TCG Rules and Formats.

The use of sleeves with any form of pattern or artwork on the back of the sleeve is strictly prohibited at all Premier Events, unless the sleeve is an official Pokémon sleeve, where the color along all four edges of the sleeve is identical.

BACK is key here - the frills we're talking about are on the face, not the back. Also from the same section (2):

The fronts of the sleeves are clear, clean, and free of designs, holograms, and emblems that may obscure card information.

Assuming the frills don't obscure card text (all the ones I've seen don't, though I don't want to make a blanket statement) they should, by the rules, be okieday, assuming we allow double sleeving at all.

If we applied the 'Back' rules to the fronts of sleeves, Ultrapros would be illegal and I'd be sad. Well, I'd have been sad a few years ago, before I switched to professor sleeves.

I think my street cred's in my sig, but in case I'm wrong...

The thing is Breon, I have seen the sleeves used either way, with the frills on the front or the back of the card. One way they are legal and one way they are not?

I say either way is wrong, especially if their opp is not paying attention to how the marks are orientated.

When a manufacturer prints sleeves, unless the sleeve is 100% clear of logos, designs or anything, there is a clear intent to what is the front of the sleeve and what is the back of the sleeve.

The question now becomes can players put cards in sleeves so the intended front is now the back and the intended back is now in front?

Frills on the back ok, as long as they don't obscure text. Ultra pro haves highly variable dots on the back.

We absolutely don't treat Jr the same as MA. There are things I would allow in one and not the other.

I allow double sleeves because the surface of the card is uniform. As long as there is no marks card condition.

Slips of paper in the sleeve might be disallowed because they secure art or text or create a marked card condition or because they're unofficial sources for the most recent printing. Back in the days when we were allowed spoiler sheets for card text changes they had to be a full page printout of the official spoiler. We no longer do that & reference text these days must be another actual card with the most recent printing when required.

Something just came up at my last cities in conversation. The new thing I am seeing is expensive sleeve, penny sleeve and hard over sleeve, so essentially triple sleeving. Any thoughts?
