At the end of the day, if we have time, we would like to run some booster drafts. If you would like to participate please plan to bring some extra money for that. I don't know the cost yet but it is usually around $12.00.

Food

We will be planning a pizza lunch for those who are interested. If you need lunch please plan on bringing some extra money for that. Otherwise we will be taking a break for lunch and there are plenty of restaurants locally (as well as shopping for parents and siblings).

This is the route I take:

Take the Turnpike
to the Beeline Expressway (Turnpike Exit 254)
You must take the first right hand lane to Beeline East.
Take the Beeline Expressway 528 to
Semoran Blvd 436 which goes North
(going south will lead you into the airport)
go past East-West Expressway.
Look for Florida Technical College on East Side
Kights of Columbus is directly behind the College.
There is a nice parking space there.
5727 Cornelia Ave.
Orlando, Florida 32897

While we are there, please remember Kights of Columbus
is our host. We need to show respect to their ideals and
philosophies so that we may continue to use their facilities
in the future.

There will be plenty of room for parents.
This is the location of my first DCI Tournament which was
the last Gym Challenge.

Looking forward to a great weekend,
and seeing all of you there.

Players: Please bring some extra damage counters and dice if you have any on you. We will have a bunch of new players playing in this tournament who have no access to either.

Hello players,
At The Orlando Ruby and Sapphire Challange we will now be offering a modified tournament for those of you who are interested. Please be aware this is a modified format that we created not Nintendo. We will try to run two. The first modified tournament will be held if enough people show up at the same time as the main R/S Challange Tournament. The first Modified Tournament will only be for players that are not going to participate in the main event. The second one will start as soon as the main event ends as long as enough people are interested.

We have decided on the cards that will be allowed for this format they are as follows:

-Expedition
-Aquapolis
-Skyridge
-EX: Ruby and Sapphire
-Wizards of the Coast 'Best Of' Promos
-Nintendo Black Star Promos

Promos are: Kyogre and Groudon by Nintendo. The 'Best Of' series promos that were given out in the BattleZone seasons. Most of these promos can also be found in old sets of cards they are listed below
Electabuzz (Base Set/BS2)
Hitmonchan (Base Set/BS2)
Professor Elm (Neo Genesis)
Rocket's Scizor (Japanese VS Set)
Rocket's Sneasal (Japanese VS Set)
Dark Ivysaur (Japanese Vending Set)
Dark Venuasaur (Japanese Vending Set)
Rocket's Mewtwo (Gym Challenge)
Rocket's Hitmonchan (Gym Heroes)

The entry fee for the first event will be $15.00 if enough people come the prizes will be good. The second tournament entry fee will be $5.00. If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail Heidi at [email protected].

Hope to see everybody soon!!!!

For the main event, is there a cut to top 8? Or is the winner and runner ups strictly based on points?

Update to the Ruby Sapphire Challenge

Hello Everybody,

On August 23, at Knights of Columbus in Orlando
there will be the Ruby Sapphire Challenge featuring
Ruby Sapphire Game Boy Play with a Sealed event
featuring the new Ruby Sapphire Trading Cards.

Registration is 10 AM to 11:15 AM

Direction again:
Take the Turnpike
to the Beeline Expressway (Turnpike Exit 254)
You must take the first right hand lane to Beeline East.
Take the Beeline Expressway 528 to
Semoran Blvd 436 which goes North
(going south will lead you into the airport)
go past East-West Expressway.

There will be Medals and other prizes for all three age
groups. You may participate even if you do not have a
Game Boy, just tell a Judge that you only want to play
in the card game part of the event.

In order to speed things up please have your special team
of only three Pokemon in your party and go to the second
floor of a Pokemon Center and save your game there.

I highly recommend you don't let other people borrow or use
your game boy before the event.

For those of you who do not have a Game Boy and do not
wish to participate in this event, Heidi has organized a side
event to keep you busy. It will be a card game in a constructed
format that is not official. The Format includes Expedition,
Aquapolis, Skyridge, Ruby and Sapphire, WotC Best Promo's
# 1 thru 9, and Nintendo Promo's #1 and 2.
Please note that reprints from older sets such as Potion, Switch, Pokeball,
Moo-Moo Milk, Energy Search, Super Scoop Up, Master Ball, Warp Point,
and Full Heal (I think that's all, but let me know if you discover any
more) may be used since they were reprinted in the sets
listed above. Potion was reworded when it was reprinted, so we
will be using the newer text. (You must take off 2 damage counters
if you have more than 1 damage counter on you, instead of you may...)
Full Heal was reworded to include all Special Conditions, so even if you
have the Base version in your deck, it does remove "Burn."

Also, please note that we will be using the newer text in the
Ruby Sapphire version for all Pokemon Reversal cards.
Play Expedition Pokemon Reversal as if it read like the
Ruby Sapphire version. I started a topic on the Poke-Gym asking
all the Professors about this card and we are following their advice.
This makes both versions worthless, so don't play it-put Warp Point
in your deck instead. (By the way without free retreating babies,
Warp Point is much more powerful.)

I declined to input on what this format should include, because I
do have some nondisclosure information about what the Changes
to the Modified Format would be. I felt that if I pushed for certain
directions that would be revealing what I know and cannot talk about...

Also, please note that we will be using the Ruby and Sapphire
Rule Book found in the Ruby and Sapphire Theme Decks for all these
tournaments.

Also, please note that Recycle Energy is NOT included.
You cannot play it in this tournament format.

Also, please note that Umbreon SkyRidge shuts off Benched Pokemon's
Poke-Powers when it is active, and Slaking prevents your opponent from
using Poke-Powers when it is active. Poke-Powers, Poke-Bodies, and
Pokemon Powers are three different things. Draw a large circle and
label it A (Pokemon Power). Now draw a smaller circle inside and
label it B (Poke-Body). Now draw a third circle inside A but not near B
and label it C (Poke-Power). Now you can easily see the relationship
of all three. If something says Shuts down all Pokemon Powers, look
at our circles, everything is inside circle A, so Pokemon Powers include
Poke-Body and Poke-Powers and none of them work anymore.
If something like Slaking says "As long as Slaking is your active Pokemon,
your opponent's Pokemon can't use any Poke-Powers," then look at our
circles, Circle C. Poke-Power does not include Circle B. Poke-Bodies or
the Part of Circle A that is Pokemon Powers such as Blastoise's "Rain
Dance." So, with Slaking active your opponent's Blaziken's Poke-Power
"Firestarter" will NOT work, But SkyRidge's Machamp's Poke-Body
"Immunity" would work.

By the way, Slaking combined with cards such as Warp Point, Switch,
Memory Berries, Boost and Warp Energy, and Swellow is a tad slow
starting, but definitely a Pokemon to respect once it gets its feet on
the ground.

Please also note, that I started a topic on the Poke-Gym asking Professors
about Chansey ex, so far the opinion is that an active Chansey ex will not
heal itself, but it will heal a hurt benched Chansey ex if it uses "Healing Egg."

After the Ruby Sapphire Challenge is over, another side event will be using
the same constructed format again for another card tournament.
If you have the cards and the time to prepare for this, it shoud be fun.

If you do not wish to participate in this event, please remember that
Heidi did offer a draft tournament for those who wished it.
This is your day, so please let Heidi, Phil, or Doug know what you want
to do that day. The Constructed Tournaments were organized because
players requested them.

There are many other options available for side events:
A Game Boy tournament with Game Boy only
A tournament using the same cards you received out of your six packs
of Ruby and Sapphire cards to build a 40 card deck.
A sealed Theme Deck challenge using some of the MP support pack I
received.
Another combination tournament like the original R&S Challenge.
An Unlimited Format card tournament.
A card tournament using another format such as DCI Modified
plus the Ruby and Sapphire Cards and Rules.
Any of these options could be run as an inexpensive tournament.

That's all for now,
Doug :)

Next Saturday will be awesome. We have hundreds of booster packs for the event itself AND as suprise prizes. Nobody is going home empty handed. If you live locally in Florida or Georgia, invite some friends and take a road trip to Orlando. This event, like all the other events we've done, WILL be the best in the entire country. :thumb:

And be sure to join us September 13th for our EX: Sandstorm Prerelease.
-Phil
