Fruits Basket; any good?

Recently someone suggested that I read the Manga "Fruit's Basket" saying that I might like it. Is it any good? Is there any nudity or anything like that in it? I kinda know what it's about, but is it worth reading?

Absolutely.

Absolutely, not.

Ugh, I need to finish this someday. May need to start from the beginning because it's been a few years. Such a tearjerker. I was hoping that that 23-volume box was really going to be released on September 29th, but nothing about it has been mentioned since its mysterious appearance in several online stores...

I just read the first volume but it kidna seemed like a reversed harem ?_?
You know, Love Hina in reverse, one girl and a lot of weird guys.

As far as I read (about 10 volumes), it's a love triangle. There just happen to be a lot of guys. It is pretty much shoujo. But neither of those things should be any way to judge something.

I liked the show, but after awhile the manga got kinda old.

My suggestion is to check out the show first to see if it is your kind of thing, then get the manga.

Is it any good?

YES YES YES! One of my favorite series. Referring mostly to the anime since I've watched it all, but also I've read the manga up to volume 12. Your mileage depends on your taste in anime / manga though. If you're stuff like DBZ or Naruto where it's pretty much all action with no character development, you'll probably find it boring. But if you like stuff where the majority of the show is based on character development, interaction and growth, then Furuba is amazing. imho does character growth and drama just as good as a Ghibli movie. The story starts off a little slow at first, but around ep 8 / end of manga vol 2 it hooks you in for good. It's also very funny (anime has more humor than the manga tho). Romance is not too big of an element tho really, kinda more based on relationships in general, including friends and the family dynamic.

Nope, not really. In the show, if a character that is cursed gets hugged by the opposite sex, they turn into an animal. After a while they turn back - and when they do they're naked. But this isn't played up or given attention like fan service type shows. Instead it's hidden either by bushes or smoke, so you don't see anything at all.

Other stuff moral wise, there's some gender bender stuff that might turn off some people. There's 2 or 3 guys that at one point or another wear women's clothes (though in the case of 2 it makes sense in context.) A couple of the guy characters also make some kind of innuendo type passes at each other, but this is REALLY light compared to a lot of shoujo. Don't know how u feel about that stuff tho. Also the dub of the anime and the Tokyopop translation has some swearing, nothing much worse than in most anime / manga though.

I kinda know what it's about, but is it worth reading?

Yeah, I'd say so! It definitely gets to your heart in a way other manga / anime doesn't. Try it out first though. Only thing I'd have to say is that if you do try it out, don't write it off until you've seen past episode 8 or read the first 2 volumes in the manga.

Well, I like it.=P I dislike the swearing, but most good things have it (not like the swearing makes it good...), so I'll just have to deal with it. A little confusing to read backwards at first, but I've got the hang of it now. How many books are there? I found 23 at the library, but are there more?

Only 23. So you're library is well-stocked :p

Sounds like I need to go to the library... I've been paying 5 bucks at the used japanese book store for mine...
