Future of Pokemon

I would agree that, at least for the most part, the future of this game is looking up. Unlimited isn't looking like it will change that much (heh -- at least no change is better than negative change), but everything else looks good. We have a new Modified format, the one that apparently fit the wants of most of the community. We have new cards that are giving the game a new spin. We have a system of getting rulings set up again. Organized Play looks to be developing nicely.
The only thing I can think of offhand that could be better than it is, and does not look like it soon will be, would be getting the sets that we "lost" in the changeover, such as the Wizards-made set. I realize that is most likely not a possibility, but it would be nice. It would also be nice to have a way to propose card ideas to the card makers, but that looks even less likely than getting the "lost" sets does, and we didn't have that under Wizards, either. Still, these are relatively minor things, as compared to what is going well.

I for one am most excited about one thing in particular. It appears within 6 months we will be caught up with JAPAN!

This means that we will be getting cards at the same time.

No more translations, no more knowing what is coming (except for Nick, but hey, that's why he's Nick)

That will make the prereleases truly special!!!

My opinion!

We already don't know everything that's coming.

Anyone find the source for many of the Sandstorm cards, yet?

I know it's usually not a good idea to bring up old threads... but isn't it funny reading this and now looking at the game as we know it? Nintendo sure did end up doing a great job...

yup, this year i actually went to a prerelease and a gym challenge :D First time since ever
It was well organized and i had a great time.
Here i will like to thank the ppl that took their time volunteering for these events:
BDS, Chrisbo, and PokeMom...

Interesting reading. It is somehow reasuring to know that Bullados has been a whiner for some time now  Sorry man.

Has it become what everyone has expected?

Where will it be in a year from now?

The sky is the limit!!!

I like the lack of gusting. I don't particularly like the lack of good healers. Nurse and MooMoo are not powerful enough in this environment. Hell, even Center would be a LITTLE better for this (non-Supporter). IMO, a toned-down Gold Berry would be a good thing for this format (3 damage counters, instead of 4). Copycat and POR are not enough of a draw engine to keep the games quick and interesting. Some type of 6-card Elm or 4-5-card Oak would do nicely. Searching also took a major blow, even with Linoone, who represents a free prize for your opponent. PETM isn't strong enough, Dual Ball is too specific, Master Ball, PFC, LNS and PokeNav are too limited in terms of searching power. Some type of Pokemon Trader would help out here, but I don't wanna sound picky. The current format and idea of Pokemon TCG is better than it could have been, but not as good as it could have been (with either LC or Best Promos).

Wow have I changed MY tune on that one, Dual Ball esp......

So far, about the decks, there seems to be one superpower (Scizor), and several dozen others that can make the cut as a good, possibly great, deck. Until Dragons comes out, however, there are just too many good deck ideas to say that only 4-6 will become huge. I'd say more like 10-15 (currently I'm working on a Raindance deck focusing on Swampert and Wailord, and I know of at least a dozen other decent combos that could be made with Swampert).

That's pretty funny...

Scizor as a superpower? What had I been drinking on that day?

IMO, RS has the makings of a good set, but will never be considered as a "gamebreaking" or "game changing" set. All it did was bring in some new Pokemon, a few new decks for a Modified format, but no trainers that can greatly influence the Unlimited format. Neo block had Elm, Gold Berry, and Focus Band. Ecard block had Copycat and Town Volunteers, and possibly some more that I'm not aware of. EX block, IMO, just isn't making the cut in my book so far. Hopefully, Dragons will bring in some huge new game effects.

How wrong can one person be?

Oh wait...

That's all me...

Never mind...

Oddly enough, I think that some people will fuss about the RS-on switch coming in the next 3 months just like so many did during the Ne-on/EON switch. Its odd...

When the game changes again, there won't be that many deck changes. Most changes will be in Trainers, and even they won't be that much. What will we lose that is important? Copycat and Oracle? Whoppee doo!

~Hyp~ ;)

XD Cool thread. I don't disagree with my oldself though. I guess I need to stick with my format policies and step out on a ledge and make a statement about the future.

RS-On will be the best modified since Neo-On. Quote me on it.

This is the most pointless topic I have ever read. Everyone's whining when everything is alright? Why on earth are you worrying about this game's future? R/S and Sandstorm were the two best expansions since Genesis, Leagues are up and going, Prereleases are back (we haven't seen them since the golden days of Jungle), Worlds will be back, 15+ free trips will be back, Modified changed for the better, a ranking system similar or better than DCI is coming soon, we'll have more different Premier Events than ever before.

Hello, is anyone awake here? We're getting everything we ever asked for, AND MORE, basically falling into our laps. The people that COMPLAIN in this topic seem to either have been asleep for the past 2 months, or hit seriously in the head by a hammer.

Help.

And announce something? We're getting Worlds, Challenge Series etc for sure, and we know it for a fact. Complaining about that is utterly bizarre. It's like I should complain that my home country isn't cold enough.

Even though us Europeans aren't as lucky as you guys at the moment, I totally agree with my old self when it comes to the American state of the game. ^^

I personally like Nintendo better. Before WOTC wouldn't even touch us up here in Green Bay, now we get the regular stuff that the other TO's get. I love the game and always will if it keeps going in this way. Nintendo saved the game in my opinion.
