Hello all. I was wondering if anyone knows what these two promo cards are. They are listed in Becket Anime (have been for some time). They are supposedly book valued at $20.00-$40.00 for Chansey and $30.00 to $60.00 for the Gastly. I have searched eBay, and Yahoo auctions for months off and on and never encountered any of these cards. When where they released? How did you get them? Does any one have any for sale or trade? Or perhaps it is a mistake in the Beckett....

Please I'd love to hear if anyone knows anything about these two promos!!

Well, pretty much the only thing they have wrong is their description of the cards. They are not really promos and they are not made by WotC.
Maybe Diamondz can get them to update their description. :)

The cards seem to have been made by Nintendo for the purpose of a demo of the e-Reader at the Pokemon Center in NY. There were a few sets of about 8-12 cards printed up for this demo. Chansey and Gasty among them. Chansey has a misprint, so I'm not sure why they rate it lower than Gasty. Among the others printed are Machop and Weezing. At the end of the demo, the lucky participants were given the cards to keep. They have shown up on eBay in spurts, as one of the owners decides to sell theirs.
They have gotten prices upwards of $100 each, but seem to have settled down to around $50 each.

They differ from the WotC Expedition cards in a few ways. I'll list some of the most significant ones:
  • They have the word "sample" printed on them (similar to how "Pokemon Center" is printed on some Promos 51 & 52
  • The text differs from the WotC cards (poorly worded)
  • The font differs from the WotC cards (crappy font)
  • The set numbering is different than the WotC set (00#/###)
  • The printing is slightly worse. You wouldn't notice unless you held them side by side and used magnification
  • The card stock is Japanese e-card stock. Better than WotC card stock!

Thanks to Dooskoop for a lot of this info.
