Something many of us seem to forget is that there is a difference between God(the Christian) and A God(A being of higher Power) Some religions even have more than one God, Henduesum is a great example. The word God just simply means a being of higher power, I really don't feel Chirstians should get upset everytime they here the word God mentioned outside of a Christian references since most of the time (this one being a great example) it has nothing to do with the Christian God.

to be honest it doesn't matter they should keep god blast at least it's not as bad as blast of the god like someone said

This has been addressed already earlier.

Please stop the stereotyping of "Christians"..........

Blame PUSA, or who makes the decision to change the name.

God Blast is God Blast

They are a business that prefers not to tick off a percentage of the populace for no good reason.

Sure, it's silly, but the people that would get upset by it don't get upset quietly.
They are the kind of people who boycott stores and force them to not sell products that upset them.
Why would PUI take the risk of setting these people off when it is very easy to avoid it?

Look at what happened recently with Dunkin Donuts and the "terrorist scarf".
There are loonies out there.

Consider Dark Pokemon.
The direct translation everyone used was "Evil".
There were big arguments on the PokeGym back then about how that was going to be translated.
I predicted that they would use Dark, like the X-Men's Dark Phoenix.

So, which did they wind up using?

Yeah, those atheists really got bent out of shape by the movie Dogma....

Wasn't that a satirical comedy about the Catholic Church, sure they liked it.

............and the ones that got bent out of shape were a the Catholics not the majority of Christians,

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

I still say it is a cop out, boycotts are a joke. Risk what risk, It is free publicity if anything since they have such a small budget anyway, they will not lose sales.

That is one problem with the US, we rather avoid something then face it and make a stand, I am sick of one person or one small group making the call for the rest of us. :nonono:

I think they should keep it as it is. If people were mad before about Pokemon being the devil, then wouldn't GOD BLAST even it up with those angry people!

No, not at all.
They would see it as disrespectful of God. Invoking His name for a card game's attack.

The problem Pokemon has with this stuff is that the target audience is of an age where parents are very concerned with what they are exposed to. They get to oversee all of the decisions and choices that their 8-11 year old children make.

It's not quite the same as MTG or D&D where the players (and buyers) tend to be of an age where they are making their own choices with much less parental input and oversight.

Personally I'm surprised YGO never got more heat considering the young age of many of the kids watching the show and buying the cards.

And don't forget that many cards in YGO are edited from the Japanese original ... if Upper Deck didn't, they would be in worse trouble from parents and such.

I would have proposed to call it Trinity Blast since you need all three Lv.Xs in order to work ... but I don't think that's possible either since apparently Trinity also has religious applications

I am not so sure. When I look at the television programming that many parents allow their children to watch, and the sheer amount of violence that children are visually subjected to, it makes me think that (many, too many) parents are only concerned when the media, or another group, raises a stink (and it's usually about sexuality, instead of violence).

As to the second paragraph, when Magic The Gathering came out, wal-mart refused to stock it because there was a card with a pentagram on it. I don't think that it's just for the children's sake that the supposedly pious individuals still prtest intellectual properties like Harry Potter.

They are scared of that which threatens their zealotry.

In america, when someone walks around naked and wears a shotgun, people will call the police, totally shocked, and report that there is an exibitionist running around

And YGO got badly censored xD

USA: If the Razorblade hits you, you'll go to the Shadow Realm
JPN: If the Razorblade hits you, your legs are cut off

USA: If you lose, the roof will break and you'll fall down into a gate that brings you to shadow realm
JPN: If you lose, the roof will break and you'll crush on the ground

They openly call Dialga and Palkia deities (whihc is a pretty name for 'gods'). Arceus is supposedly the god of all Pokemon, as well.

If Pokemon gets away with that, I don't see the big stank about it.

Not to mention they probably wouldn't de-capitalize 'God' from 'God Blast'. All card attacks/powers/etc. have any and all words capitalized.

Some people are just getting huffy over nothing. Damn, and I'm called unrealistic. People are freaking out about a fictional children's game that teaches reading skills, math skills, and even Braille. I know the arguements for and against it; it's all just ridiculously childish and immature to me to take it to that level.

*slowly shakes her head*

Think of it this way. It does not say Christain god blast or roman god blast. It just appears to say God Blast no refering to an actually god, but being an example of large power.

but to the segment of the population who *would* get offended and make a big stink about this, ANY reference to 'god' is to theirs, and theirs ALONE and therefore offensive unless made in the 'right' context.

feh.
'mom

Let's face it, God Blast will not be changed to anything remotely cool. It'll be Triple Strike or Power Blow or something equally snooze-tastic.

Edit: Actually, I retract that, because Power Blow is perhaps the most hilarious attack ever, just ahead of Grope. In fact, I propose God Blast be named Triple Power Grope. Who's with me?

(BTW, I think I may have found the boundary between PG and R. I'll let yall know if this limit-finding expedition failed. ^_^ )

I am 120% sure it will be changed. They changed God Gundam to Burning Gundam for the US release of G-Gundam. They don't won't to offend anyone and then be sued. They have it printed because people are a lot more tolerant and generally just don't care because its just a word on paper.

Why would it matter if it was changed? So many other attack names, some of which Phazon Elite pointed out, to discuss and this is the one that gets attention?
