Great Tournament Software for Palm OS

Recently, after finally getting tired of doing all the Tournament Pairings by hand and figureing out final top 8 standings on paper, a friend and I searched for some kind of Tournament Pairing softwere to use on our Palm Tungsten T handhelds. And we found it.

Its a Swiss Tournament Soaftwere that can keep track of 256 players and allows for Fixed and Flexible points (the later of which pertains mostly to Pokémon). And you can even Print results, standings, and pairing from it.

This little bit of software is awsome. Just think of it as an easy to use DCI Reporter for Palm. We've gone through extensive testing with it and have already used in Tournaments in our league and it works just great. We don't have to worry now about ever having to lug around a Laptop if we ever got one and its so easy to use.

This software is great now that we're no longer under DCI and while we wait to see what software POP comes out with (if any). But I can tell you, if POP does come out with a Reporter software, I'm still going to stick with this one (unless it also works on Palm). So, if any TO and/or Gym Leader is looking for a Reporter Like software for thier Palm Powered PDA (it works just fine in Palm OS 5) than you have to get this.

Its Called simply enough Tourney:
Go to its Palm Gear page Here to download a demo or to purchease it (it only $10).

Trust me, you won't be disapointed. :thumb:

Do you know if the software works on the Dell Pocket PC? It runs like a Palm, but used a windows operating system, and is a little more advanced system.

Nope... sorry. Its a Palm only Software. I havn't done much searching for Pocket PC (since I don't and never will have one) but I havn't found anything for that platform.

How does it handle reporting? Can it generate a .txt file for result submision?
Nope... it doesn't seem to be able too. But it can print pairings. However, its easy enough to read and use that it shouldn't be much trouble to make a .txt file.

Here's some screen shots I was able to take (taken with my Cell Phone camera so there not that great):

Tourney Set up
Player Set up
Pairings and Results
Pairing Options
Entering Match Results
Rankings
Rankings with Resistance (Fixed points mode)
Player Match Results

Good news... the author just released a update to te software to include a Player Database. The updated version was sent to current users and will be available at Palm Gear in about a week.

Is there a way to do age-modified? Have you looked at the software enough to know if doing this is possible? Almost a necessity for running the Pokemon events. BTW - I just checked at PalmGear and the version with the player DB is up.

Hey - by the way - is there a place that details the methodology of doing swiss, calculating points, standings, pairings etc etc? Since I develop software for a living maybe I should write one for the PocketPC and ransom it off to Jimmer ;-)
Actually for me - since I have a Dell Axim and have almost retired my Handspring Visor... but in a pinch...

I'm not too sure about Age-Modified. It would be possible, but you would have to do some manual pairing for the first few rounds if needed in order for it to work. After all, the software isn't completely perfect; it only at version 1.1 now. Maybe if we make enough sugestions the author will put them in the next version. But so far, it does everything our league needs... and then some.

I think swiss pairing is described in the DCI Tournament Handbook. Just have to do pairing and rankings accroding to Total score and Match Win Percentage (of course, its a little tricker than it sounds :p ).
