Hidden Power and STAB???

If I have an Electivire that has Hidden Power Lightning does it get the STAB bonus because it is an electric pokemon???
 
Yes he does though there is almost no point in wanting a STAB Hidden Power. Thunderbolt is the better option.

I was using Electivire as an example.... I am a newb but not that bad!

So next question...

If my pokemon is flying and has hidden power flying with a calculated power of 50 is it worth it and how is that determined...
 
Unless you absolutely have no other options and not having that coverage will kill you, no. 50 is barely stronger than Tackle...

I know. As for a HP of 50, I'd say breed another Pokemon. Foe me on any of my competitive Pokemon, I shoot for at least 60 for its power.

Hidden Power's attack power and type is based on what IVs the Pokemon has.
