How Pokemon got its names

Wow Fish King, you completed 99% of the 251 Pokemon!

Anyway, did any of you know that chinchou is a kind of drink(chinese language I think)?

I thought Feraligatr was ferocious aligator and Typhlosion was typhoon + explosion...about the Kangaskhan, I'm not really sure if it is actually Kangaroo + Gengis Khan...hehe

One more thing, what is Nihongo???

Feraligatr is probably Feral Aligator.

Khan means tiger-its just a part of some language (I think Chinese, but am uncertain). Arcane Canine works as well as mine (Magic Dog).
 
Nihongo is Japanese for the Japanese language: Nihon = Japan; -go = language.

I believe the 'chinchou' name comes from "chochin', which is Japanese for the paper lanterns one sees at outdoor festivals. Just as Chimecho comes from what it's modeled after, a furin or windchime/bell.

A lot of the Pokemon names are not exactly as they 'seem', if you're looking at only English word forms. The '-don' ending, for example means 'monster'...

Combusken - Combustion+Hen does ken mean somethin?
Blaziken - Blazing-Hen again with the ken?
Marshstomp- Marsh+Stomp
Swampert-Swamp wheres the pert come from?
Grovyle- Probably Grove(like a grassy area) and reptile
Sceptile- no idea what the Scep is for. Scepticle Reptile?
Zigzagoon- Zig-Zag Racoon
Linoone- Lin? oon is of course racoon but i dunno what lin is.

Delkatty- i know del means somethin. Del+ Cat

You didn't get the specifics on these:

Articuno - Arctic is the cold, ice, UNO is spanish for 1. Isn't articuno the 1st available Bird in RBY?

Zapdos - Zap is electricity, and DOS is spanish for 2. I'm seeing a pattern here...

Moltres - Molt - Either for molten lava, like fire, or molting, what birds do when loosing feathers. TRES is spanish for 3, and Moltres is the last bird you can catch. (if you do them in order)

Remember, people, not every letter of a Pokemon's name hsa a meaning. Example:

Altaria - Alt is short for altitude, air for... air, and the rest makes it sound like a real word.

oh, and Breloom is Umbrella and Mushroom

BTW - did you know a Pika is a real animal? It's a small rodent.
