long story short.
i am 38 and have never seen a pokemon card before 2 months ago. My 7 year old daughter, however, got into them and of course wanted a bunch. me, being the dope i am, thought sure, she just needs a bunch to play with on the bus so I hopped on ebay and bought a pack of 100ex cards from china for like $13. no further comment on that really necessary...
except, i still had no idea fake pokemon cards were a thing. another kid on the playground, told my daughter most of her cards were fake because his daddy said the backs were off color. he won't trade with her anymore and she was hysterical.
soooo...since i cannot punch a 7 year old boy in the head, i went the other route and opened my wallet. i went on amazon and bought a whole bunch of single cards from various sellers, all with good seller ratings. i havent's given them to her yet but figured she will be thrilled (and have more than that other little <kid> lol). anyway, as i've been reading about this stuff since i got burned already once, i am now completely paranoid. literally, i look like an overweight, middle-aged wannabe sherlock holmes looking over these cards with a light and magnifiying glass, not completely sure what i should be looking for.
i don't want to send my daughter out to get embarrased again and i simply do not have the knowledge to decipher reals from (what i think are really good) fakes. So I am turning to the experts for help. i live on long island, and i am looking for someone who could meet with me for maybe 30-40 minutes to run through these cards and if able to do so, tell me if they are realy or not. for safety concerns, we of course could meet in a dunkin donuts or starbucks or whatever, hell i'll even buy you a coffee. i can meet in nassau, suffolk, or the city if really necessary.
i would like 1 hour of your time, which i believe should be sufficient for a long-time player or hobbyist to run through these cards pretty quickly. i will also bring a laptop so we can pull up the pokemon.com page with the database for comprison purposes. FOR 1 HOUR OF YOUR TIME, I WILL PAY $100, guaranteed. If it takes you 10 minutes or 60 minutes, you make the same $100. My only request, obviously, either on here or shoot me an e-mail/pokegym message, telling me a tiny bit about your experience with pokemon cards, how you'd be able to spot fakes so accurately etc. i'm certainly not looking for life stories, but i want to feel comfotable that i am not getting ripped off by this community for the potential third time.
i thank you in advance.
