Is Pokemon the Best Out There...?

I always thought this was just the Norwegian Magic Community's fault, but now I see that Mtg players in England and the USA aren't very nice either. Too many of the Mtg players around here are mean/annoying/disrespectful/arrogant. While the Pokemon players have fun and are friendly towards each other, the Mtg players take everything way too serious, and some of them can't figure out how to say things in a nice way.

There are, of course, very many nice Mtg players. I know some of them, and they're great guys. It's just too many of those stupid guys who ruin the game for me with their whining and bad behavior.

But I ultimately left Magic because of the players. Magic players (as a whole) just bug the hell out of me.

You and me both Nick15 you and me both ...

Hmm.... Our old WOTC store had free play periods whenever there was no magic or pokemon or ygo tournaments going on.. One day however.. all of a sudden the area was off limits to anyone at all times BUT when there was a tournament... I went ahead and asked why. The reason he gave me shocked me... He said that it was mostly because of the MTG players and YGO players... MTG players just downright disrespected the people working there cause they were older or they just didnt like each other... (not to say that all of them were like that.. it was a general thing.. I know some very nice Magic players too..), Then he moved on to the YGO players... I will not go into detail what he said about that.... glad my YGO playing friends werent there though... He said that out of all the groups, he enjoyed the pokemon people the best....my 2 cents on what somebody else told me....

I heard something along the same lines from a store owner when I was there for a LOTR event 2 weeks after judging/running the NC SBZ tournament there. He mentioned how the people cleaned up after themselves, were better mannered, and more friendly than any other TCG (and they have a few...MTG, Yu-Gi-Oh, LOTR, etc...). It was nice hearing that from a store owner's perspective. :D

Of course, I would vote for Pokemon. My son and I just started playing LOTR a few months ago. I like the game mechanics (LOTR) better but I like the people in Pokemon much better!!! I have found Pokemon is one of those games where all ages can play, its easy to learn, and great fun. My son got me into the game 4 years ago and we have had a great time and memories. Looking forward to even more with Nintendo taking over!!! :thumb:

Yu-Gi-Oh
-Too much like Magic
-Too much mathmatics
-Fake anime

overall: nothing more to be said

Pokemon is still one of the greatest card games, even under the watchful eye of Nintendo. Even though there were a few changes in rules and all, it's still a great game.

Actually.. thats exactly what he said about pokemon players... well mannered, all around good people.... Yugioh is too simplistic for me... and you need to have WAY too much luck and money to be good... If you cant get all those rare cards you cant really win...not like pokemon.. even the most worthless of cards have thier days.. lol. Then again.. no pokemon card is worthless in my book... besides... from what i collect from stores (i ask if they sell a lot of yugioh or see a lot of people at the leagues anymore) they are getting very discouraged... heh.. Alright.. enough yugioh bashing from me for one day...

Darkleaf Out...

If ukpokemonpro and Nick15 just ran into a bad pocket of them (which is probably the case, with so many players, there is bound to be a few bad apples), I wouldn't let it ruin your opinions of ALL of them.

I've been to my fair share of Magic tournaments beyond my local group of players. They all pretty much bug me.

To catagorize a "Magic player" would be like trying to catagorize a similar group of people (Like saying all Americans, or Women, or East Coast people are the same... they aren't).

Hear hear. Please, we're not all the same. I know Magic players have a fairly bad rep as being overcompetitive and intolerant - especially among Pokemon players, man that was a hectic couple of years! - but, in my experience, they're actually in the minority. In my local area, I'm glad to say the guys are mostly very sound towards other games, with only one or two exceptions. And they're light-hearted about it.

The top TCGs in my area right now are Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Lord of the Rings. Pokemon seems to be on the verge of making a comeback. Star Wars TCG seems to be the same as with djcati - I'm a community of one here, and it's hard going. They got AotC and SR, but I had to bug them to get in ANH and BoY, but ended up buying the lot myself. Good game, though, shame about the messed-up handling. One guy plays L5R all by his lonesome. I probably have the largest DBZ collection in the nation - with it having never been officially released in Europe, I still have six or seven Scrye promos

To the progenitor of this thread, what game you pick up could depend on what games are big in your area. It's possible you could start a trend, but you might fail. I think I'm resposible for bringing Pokemon back here, but SWTCG never took off despite my efforts :(

Wow... Must have lucked out then... All the magic players I go up against are real nice. Then again, could just be the area...

This one Yu-Gi, player, though... We were fighting for 3rd, and I had two God-AWFUL opening hands in a row. Naturally, he won. Then proceeded to be a jerk. The sad part? Was probably twice his age. Might have Whooped him right there if he got any worse...

In any case, in addition to what everyone else is saying, before you pick a game, ask some people if you can spectate. Make sure you like the game, otherwise it's just not worth it...

If you have the time, patience, cash, and so on... you could try a miniature game like Warhammer. It's too complicated to go into detail here, email if you want a description.

No no, I wouldn't categorize all Magic players as being the same. I mean *I* was a Magic player and I wasn't the same as the rest. :p

However I'm saying that the general feeling I got from the general group of Magic players I interacted with was one of annoyance. I don't get that same feeling with Pokémon. :) Obviously there are certain exceptions to this fact (I've known some friendly Magic players and some dumb Pokémon players), but overall the attitudes of Magic players in all really bugged me. Bugged me to the point of not ever considering playing that game again. :)

i would say a 52 card decks is the best since it can play many games and you don't have to buy much stuff out there buy for tcg my oppion is either pokemon modified or mtg type 2 since you have to start over and you don't either want to be beat up my sneasle, slowking or stealex or by type 1 endless combos that will kill you

Speaking of that I always wondered what that cant-revive-dead-posts rule is for.
Look at the content of the posts that revived this 6 month old topic and wonder no longer.
Very rarely is a dead topic raised for a worthwhile reason.
