Okay, there are some Pokemon that should be banned and I understand that but not Latias and Latios when they don't have Soul Dew, if they want to do that, they should ban Tyranitar and other too. The hex items should not be banned because Pokemon like Vaporeon need Quick Claw to beat Pokemon like Garchomp. Not every Pokemon is fast enough to use choice items. The whole " I don't want luck in the game" is crap because luck is there to balance things out. I just really hate that no Double Team thing and the game allows it in the in game tournaments. Does anyone else feel the same way about this.

Didn't we already beat this to death in the sticky? The conclusion we all agreed upon was that Smogon is elite and great and just the bestest best group of trainers ever and we should never ever question their decisions because we're just not as plain ol' thuper-dee-dooper as they are and we're free to run scrubby little noob tournaments where terrible, horrible, awful, no-good very bad moves like Double Team are allowed but anyone with an ounce of skill wouldn't want to deal with something like that when they could be playing in a truly recognized, Smogon-sanctioned competetive manner.

I figure I would start this because it might not get lock as this is to talk about the crazy bans that "pro" players put on the game.

Pretty sure the whole point behind eliminating as much luck as possible in the game is to make it a test in generica raising. It's pretty much indisputable that a team featuring double team spamming will beat the crap out of so-called pro players.

Ugh you just have no clue the amount of discussion that went into the latis being banned without soul dew. They are basically suped up versions of Choice Specs Salamence with overall better stats and type.Draco Meteor ftw?

and wobbofett shouldn't be banned without leftovers. same with blissy and chansey. There really shouldn't be any banned items, imho, except soul dew.

The more I hear about Smogon, the more it sounds like bloody Lafonte.

A Salamence with Choice Specs and Draco Meteor kill anything in one hit too. I use Latias and Latios and the still die to Salsmence. I think people ban Pokemon so they don't have to fight them. The Latis are no stronger the standard OU Pokemon and people need to realize that.

Smogon man 3: The issue of today... Soul dew!
    Smogon man 1: Waah!
    Smogon man 2: Eugh!
    Smogon man 1: WAAAH!
    Smogon man 4: Maaaaaah!
    *This repeats for many pages
Smogon man 1: So we're in consensus, soul dew is banned?

The idea of "banning" anything from a VIDEO game is the most rediculous thing I've ever heard of. So sorry if it "disrupts the metagame" -- what METAGAME? Last time I checked, there wasn't exactly a Pokemon VG OP system. Give me a break--you want to ban stuff within your little group of internet buddies, that fne--but don't tell me what items I can and can't use, what moves I can and can't teach my Pokes. The items and moves are PART OF THE GAME.
    Get over it.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

    PS:
Let me just reiterate--Smogon has no RIGHT to "ban" anything...
It would be like LaFonte saying "Spinda is banned!"

Um...no. Nintendo gets to say what's banned.

Exactly. Nintendo clearly supports two formats.

The JAA format and the in-game battle tower format. Other smaller formats exist such as the PBR and Stadium formats I suppose.

Whether anyone says "Jirachi should be allowed in the non-uber format" or "Hax items and moves should not be allowed in either" is simply an opinion that as PokéMart so honourably laid down is not that of Nintendo the governing power. there opinions and rules are nothing more than "house rules" one may apply to a board game. Nothing else. That's simply a FACT. If they were right, Nintendo would enfore it.

Nintendo is "god" of what happens in Pokémon. End of.

Nintendo is a joke; they run what, maybe 1 tournament a year (PRA) if anything, and they probably have no clue of what a competitive environment looks like. I'm sorry, but Nintendo left it to the people out there to determine what rules they want to play by; they've been screwing us since RBY came out. Hence why we have sites like Smogon that try to make decent rules and sets Pokemon into different metagame. No one has to play by them I agree, but there are plenty of people that do. Also, Nintendo can't enforce squat, except whatever rules they decide to use at their practically non-existent tournaments like PRA and JAA.

Well, no one ever said you had to play in the tournaments that use those clauses/rules you hate so much :thumb:

You know what is the easiest and fairest way to settle these sorts of arguments. Within a tournament, vote on the rules and have the majority decide on the rules.

Ie. if 85% say no evasion and sleep clause, the tournament runs that way. Seems fair?

If anything, they have a better idea of what makes for a good tournament than Smogon does. Nintendo's been in the gaming industry for how many decades now? I think they know a few things about gaming that the blowhards at Smogon don't. After all, Nintendo doesn't go banning things just because they don't like them.

but smogonz r teh 1337est bestest BESTEST traynerz nd u shud listen 2 dem bc dey r 1337est when dey r playing by smogonz r00lz nd just bc dey cant win by real r00lz doesn't meen dey rnt teh 1337est :mad::mad:

Besides, Nintendo has designed a role-playing game that involves LUCK. While Smogon may have their minds on changing it to a game of pure-prediction and strategy, this was clearly NOT Nintendo's intention.

Taking the dice out of a board game called Monopoly spoils it - the luck is a foundation for the excitement and suspence but still leaves range for skill.

A similar state exists in the card-game but again it's necessary for the fun.

Smogon's efforts are futile and spoil the game. Why not trust the makers? Double team exists for a reason!

Did I ever freaking say Smogon is the best!? I agree that Smogon has flaws, but they still have basic good rules. I mean, take DT/OHKO clause; I've been against those moves even before I found out about Smogon and such, and I'm happy to see that other people agree and make this a clause. And the people who play by those clauses obviously are fine. So once again, if you don't like them, don't use them! Just don't go attacking the people who wish to play by them. :nonono:

Believe me, as much as I like Nintendo in general, they know next to nothing about competitive Pokemon gaming. And you just make yourself look dumb using that weird leet speech.

How is LUCK clearly not Nintendo's intent? I agree that there are basic luck elements to the game, but using something like DT over and over again to make it practically impossible to hit you just breaks away from the idea of luck and into just an exercise in futileness. Smogon's efforts are not necessarily futile; if you don't like their rules, don't play by them.

I agree with that, but whoever is running the tournament ultimately has the final say imo. Whoever wants to play by the host's rules can stay, whoever doesn't want to can go do something else.

Luck is Nintendo's intent because they desinged a "dice roll" system of damage calculation and a "dice roll" of evasion. If this weren't an intent Nintendo would not make evasion.
