Magmortar Lvl X

Magmortar is dying slowly but surely, but lookin regionals,it wasnt even that much of a factor for decks to get past Magmortar now,its a nice deck, but is dying

At the SE Regional there were a fair number of good solid Mags decks floating around. The problem was that there were more folks playing G&G and there were a TON of red face paint water decks floating around. I think that nearly half of the decks I played in swiss had major water type attackers and I saw more around too. Mathematically both factors made it more probably that G&G was going to be better represnted in top cut than Mags.

I still feel that Mags is a very stong play ... it's just that at the current moment in the format that there are more mags counters than G&G counters ... and still fewer decks that can handle both.

Four fire players can thank my feraligatr deck for pushing them out of the top cut.

Mag is a good deck, it's a great deck, but it just doesn't deal the same damage as fast and for as little resources that GG does. No deck does.

Just IMHO the options are what make G&G so good. Fast damage is just one of them. There are several decks that deal more damage faster ... and some of them even use Mags.

The Togekiss - Mags variant is pretty sweet damage wise. T2 or T3 it was doing a consistant 120 per turn until KOed or choosing to spend energy to hit the bench.

Banette has way less resources than G&G and slaughters it.Maybe the same, but Mag to me is gettin countered really hard,I played 4 water decks at NC regionals and lost to a Emp when I was 4-2 which knocked me out of top.Maybe mag isnt the BDIF anymore :/

It never really was a BDIF. Still, I'd say a skilled Magmortar player with a good list has a favorable matchup in untimed matches against most Gardevoir decks that don't run a water tech. Too bad all the tournament matches are timed.
