Shocking. I can't begin to comprehend the struggle that families, companies and individuals are facing in this time. I hope that this doesn't happen again anytime soon...

R.I.P. to all the Japanese whose souls have now left us.

Good thing our Congress proposed budget cuts to our tsunami monitoring operations!

In Japan, that saved a LOT of lives. As bad as this is, it could have resulted in the loss of many many more lives.

Among the victims of the Tsunami is Satoshi Tajiri, lots of messages claim. Nintendo claims this to be untrue for now.

Of course, among the thousands of ruined lives...
Let us hope that there will be plenty saved, and that nuclear reactor stays stable...

@Scipio: According to Serebii, ALL of Nintendo's workers are alive and well, including Satoshi Tajiri.

One wonders... Will they delay Japan's World Championship because of this? I hope not. :/ I mean, no one wants to play Pokemon in a shaking building, but it'd be nice if things could bounce back fast.

I contacted family in Japan and they seem to be fine. My heart goes to the families that weren't as fortunate. Luckily the Japanese were ready for something like this. The technology implemented into their building are way more advanced than most place and countless lives were saved because of that. Unfortunately, the tsunami and now the radiation leak aftrwards, means that Japan has a long way to go on the road to rebuilding. Heck, they're still feeling aftershocks.

Most of their buildings (at least the larger ones) are designed to withstand earthquakes due to the country being along a fault line. I imagine most of the buildings farther inland that weren't at the epicenter, or subject to the damage from the tsunami are fine.

Unfortunately, in addition to the countless aftershocks, my friend in Saitama (just north of Tokyo) mentions that Japanese seismological experts give a 70% likelihood of a magnitude 7 or greater aftershock within three days. Convenience foods like bread and instant ramen are increasingly difficult to find, and everyone is flooding gasoline stations creating long lines and potential shortages.
edit: Not on the news yet, but it has been announced that areas of Kanto will be subject to rolling blackouts for 3 hours per day (probably to decrease electricity consumption) This includes Japan's essential rail system, so this will be very ugly logistically.
