    On the floor experience

First and foremost, the Wii has officially passed the GCN's LTD total. Not just passed it, smashed it to pieces.

Second, Nintendo is less than 10k away from selling 10 million units for the year. As far as I know, based on Joshua's knowledge, this is the first time any developer has sold 10 million gaming hardware units in a single year. Anybody who says that Nintendo's DS and Wii properties combined will sell less than 100k next week is deluding themselves.

I still don't know how the PSP is selling. Only 3 games in the top 50 and none in the top 10. Yet it's still selling neck and neck with the Nintendo Wii, heck outselling it this week, which has 10 in the top 50 and 6 in the top 10. It's only $50 less than the Wii, and about $70 more expensive than the DS. Yet it still pulled 184k this week. That's krazy. Based on that and last week's sales, I'm going to put the PSP at 220-240k next week.

DS is a cash cow. It's a license to print money in Japan, and the 20.8 million LTD is proof positive of this fact. It's less than 210k units from the PS2 LTD numbers at this point, and now is the busiest sales time of the year. It just sold 222k units this week. I seriously doubt that sales will drop next week. The DS will pass the PS2 in LTD numbers at the end of next week, selling somewhere in the area of 270-290k for the week.

The Wii is also a cash cow. It's got the 2nd most YTD numbers next to the DS, over half a million over the next biggest hardware unit (PSP), and over 2.3 million better than the next biggest console competitor. It just sold 170k units. I don't think Nintendo has sold through its stock yet. Expect similar numbers to the PSP next week, 220-240k units.

In any other year, the PS3 numbers this week would be respectable. However, it's going against the powerhouse DS and Wii properties, as well as its smaller, more portable cousin. Those numbers comparatively are pathetic. 1.5 million LTD is pathetic. Not Xbox pathetic, but pathetic nonetheless. It's more pathetic that the system it's supposed to replace has sold nearly 3/4 of the units for the year. I'm not going to call this one yet, but the PS3 is on life support right now. It needs about a dozen GOOD exclusives in the next year if it wants to compete with the Wii. If the PS3 gets a week of 100k+, I'd be surprised. 80-90k for each of the next two weeks, with an outside shot of 100k the week of Christmas.

Xbox doesn't sell. Even its holiday bump is pathetic. 8-10k for the next 2 weeks, back to its 2-4k after the holidays.

Mario Party DS is on track to be the next million seller for the DS. DQIV might make it as well. Wii Fit should pass SMG next week. Hopefully both make it to the one million mark. Wii Play should pass two million in a couple weeks.

Chocobo Mystery Dungeon didn't do much better than its reported first day sales. I wouldn't expect much more out of it since the used game market for RPGs in Japan is vicious. Nights ended up charting, but Soul Calibur Legends and Wii Love Golf didn't.

My question when it comes to numbers is does it include everyone? Wal-mart and such chains?

I believe Media Create gets numbers from a rediculously high percentage of stores in Japan and extrapolates what's left meaning that the numbers aren't 100% accurate, but they're really doggone close.

Wal-mart and a few others don't report to NPD in the US, but they're definately accounted for.

Didn't see those Wii Fit numbers. Finally, that game's starting to pick up a little bit. Yep, it's definitely a million seller. If DQ4 ISN'T a million seller, I'll personally go over there and smack every Japanese gamer with my miniature Alena figure. Don't think that I won't.
