ok, this is the first report ive ever done, bear with me

the turnout at milford was to my liking, since i had to be back home at 6 and if it had gone longer, i would have been in trouble

the packs i got at the start weren't to bad, other than i got aqua's manetrik, and no aqua's electrike. quite a few of the stage 1 pokemon were pretty strong, most doing about 50 damage for 3 3nergy and an extra effect for most. the deck i made out of my cards were:

energies:

7 :fighting: energy
5 :fire: energy
5 water energy

pokemon:

2 magma's baltoy
1 magma's claydol
2 magma's houndour
2 magma's aron
1 magma's lairon
1 magma's houndoom
1 magma's zangoose
1 aqua's carvahna
1 aqua's sharpedo
2 aqua's sphele
2 aqua's sealeo

trainers:

2 magma schemer
1 aqua schemer
1 magma conspiritor
1 duel ball
1 strength charm

it did me well in the tourney. and here were my battles. they might not be as detailed as you like, since my memory isn't the best at remembering what happened, even after the match.

battle 1: alex geary

alex was my first match, and one of the matches that got me nervous. my hand at the start wasn't so good, and my damaged houndoom didn't look like it would last long against his manektirk. i was relieved when i pulled out zangoose to be a shield for houndoom and left hound on the bench for a while and the battle lasted for some more. in the end, houndoom came back to wipe out his carvahna (i think). that battle was a good one. one win for me. record: 1-0

battle 2: lawrence (forgot his last name)

this battle was my shortest one. baltoy, claydol, fighting and magma energy were in my opening hand. all he had out was a corpfish. i got to got first and attacked him. he drew, anda didn't get another basic out. next turn, claydol came out, i attached magma energy, and attacked him for 50. game over for him. another win for me. record: 2-0

battle 3: keenan (again, forgot last name)

this time, sharpedo brought me victory. his kyogre on the bench got me in a panic at the start, unitl i noticed he had 2 aquas and i only had 1 out. i relaxed a little and attacked his corpfish. he poisoned me, and i evolved next turn. slow-acting poison is a interesting attack, and it helps sharpedo's 2nd attack out too. his corpfish was gone, and his kyogre had to use power saver, lucky gor me. he didn't get out any other aqua's and sharpedo got to rain havok with 50 damage each turn. i win again, to my surprise. i've never been this lucky in a tourny before. record is 3-0.

battle 4: tyler (no last name again)

this kid was kinda of sarcastic in our battle. he kept saying stuff to annoy me and he sometimes forgot to draw his card. also didn't know if i did my turn once and tried to go again. i had lairon out on turn 2, and he drew a basic, i forget which. he evolved his poochyena into mightyena, and he hit me for 50. i then drew magma energy, which i needed last turn. the battle went on for a little longer, and i maganged to pull out houndoom to deal some punishment to his pokemon. i won with houndoom in the end. boy, his carvahnas got me annoyed. record is 4-0

battle 5: rob (i should know his last name, but it slips my mind, like the other 3)

final round in the tourney. his manektric early on got me on the defence, until he sent it to the bench. i got claydol out and i managed to deal pain to his team. eventually, i won (forgot what happened in the rest of the battle). i was undefeated for the very first time, with a 5-0 record.

in the end, i got 2nd place. another kid came out on top, and he said he had a better win rate than me, which he heard from a judge, who was his father. happy enought that i got second, i left. i had to anyway, since my mom would have my head if we weren't back by 6 to go to a banquet. man, i dislike events where i have to dress up.

Yeah, it's the tournament software that decides that based on the toughness of the opponents a player faced. If you beat people who had better records than another player's opponents, you'll come out on top.

Does that make sense to you?

:unknown-b

yea, i understood that. a tie also happened between my brother and i at the dragon prereleace. he was ticked i came 3rd while he was 4th though he beat me

In any case, you did awesome man! Congrats. How many people showed up to the tourney, btw? Again, great job, and hey... any deck report is better than not doing one, so this is great to have one up!

i think there was around 50 people there, from my memory. but don't always trust it. and is there anything else i should post if i do another report?

Good report! Yes there were 50 players in the first prerelease. Too bad you couldn't stay for the second one.

Oh, and one thing your report forgot was how great the judging staff was. ;) :D

Milford Prerelease Numbers

Here's a breakdown for the Magma/Aqua Prerelease Tournament at Milford. With the age groupings skewed to the older players, I certainly hope POP is paying attention to aggressively marketing the game to the younger kids. This might include concepts such as NEW promo cards, and adequate prize support for Leagues. Just a thought!
