Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Modified Or Unlimited?

It's not just the first turn that matters. Many Unlimited decks, for one, have multipe basics, so a first turn win isn't that likely. Also, decks like Blaziken/ex could work if you start with the Haymaker basics or Cleffa and then use Unlimited format trainers to get your evos out, especially since Blaziken decks work regatrdless of whether you have energy in your hand, and Blazy decks could play loads of SERs and get away with it.

First.. it seems in Modified that it's all about how quickly you can power up these super Pokemon and start KO ypur opponent. In Unimited it seemed we were more comcerned about stategy. Think about all the combinations that exist with all the cards! I have a deck that has only 1 evolution (espeon) and all basic Pokemon. 3 babys, some older Pokemon and some newer Pokemon (Absol-Larvitar), some old trainers ER and SER and some new trainers Brineys compassion, Oracle. My friend who is a very acomplished Trainer, plays with Blaiziken... at last count I had won 15x against 6 loses. The point is when you play all the cards available and build a deck that is unique, you have the capability of playing competitively against any deck..Unlimited or modified! My point is let all players build decks that incorporate all the cards! And anyone out there who believes that 1 deck will become the ultimate supreme deck is kidding themselves. Let the players dictate the strategy not the cards. I do thnak everyone who has posted a comment or opinion! I enjoy reading other peoples comments. Love this site!!!!!!!

Slowking...LOL..... So many ways to take care of that Pokemon. GOW the confuse it..Zap it yourself.. use any Pokemon that does large damage to the bench.. Ko Slopoke when it it played. GOW Slowking, then use Nosepass to return all card to your opponents hand, next turn Oak your opponent. Plua ther are several Pokemon that you can play that act a gust of wind. Use MAgby to turn off all Pokemon Powers then use your Trainers...the list is endless and just requires a little imagination

You don't build a deck to comabt 1 Pokemon, you build a deck to comabt the many threats that exist in various decks! What is so difficult about designing a deck that can take on multiple threats from various decks! Why does a deck have to be all about how much damage you Pkmn can inflict and the stategy take second place. Or how quickly you can evolve your Pkmn! Lets make the game intriguing and use all our resources!

I now have said enough on this subject. :) Thanks for all the input!

I can understand why QWERT and every other player who has been into this game for some years and have a large collection of cards, would want to play Unlimited. But let's say I want to inspire some of my kid's friends in the neighborhood to start playing pokemon, and they only played Unlimited matches in tournaments at our local store or nearest pokemon league. Taking him/her there with his/her new Ruby/Sapphire-on deck would just finish off that kid's interest in the game quite easily. He/she would have to take up a major loan to build a competative deck, plus spend countless hours learning pokemon tcg history.

I think these two reasons for playing Modified is enough 1) So new players can get into the game 2) So Nintendo can make money and carry on with releasing new series and keeping the game alive.

I like to play Unlimited myself, and certainly will keep playing it, it's great nostalgia after all. But it's no place for a newcomer to this sport. Unless he inherited a huge collection of cards from his older brother or something...
