With rotation coming up and looking at the possible decks available, I came across Munchlax from DP. THis card has interesting potential to say the least. As a Starter it doesn't look like much at first, but the Heave attack has great possibilities!

IN the current play format, Heave can setup many situations for you. PLaying Garchomp, Heave as a starter can begin the discarding process turn 1 for a single :colorless energy. If you don't have what you need in hand right then, attach a Call energy and get those basics out! Next turn Roseanne's for some Energy cards :colorlessand then Heave them to the discard pile! Which brings me to another card many are looking at for next format, Kingdra! Imagine starting with this little guy and get those energies in the discard so quickly! The :colorless:colorless Retreat is the only real problem, but that is nothing Switch Warp Point or attaching another energy and discarding more into that pile for powering up Kingdra!

Let us look at another helper Munchlax assits, Claydol! Imagine starting with Munch and Baltoy on the Bench... Heave so next turn you can setup Claydol and draw those extra cards! That's some good eating!!

One other potential of this card is the possibility of 60 for :colorless! 60 OHKOs a lot of starters in aggro decks and can be a heckuva hitter midgame (all be it can get smacked really quickly!

So this little guy might find a home in a few possible decklists, could he find one in yours??

Have fun and keep looking at those BAD cards, you might just find something there that works!

    ~Prof. Fish~

And I didn't even mention Blissey or Banette! Yes, Heave for Sixty then Spiteful Pain for 80!

I made a deck based around this guy with Nidogueen(DF) and Banette(SW) back around when SW was released. Though it was too slow to actually do good against Blissey and GG. Though I've completely forgot about him. Like you said he could do very good in TechChomp.

I always try to see the best in cards, but I never noticed that. Sweet.

This is a pretty good discard outlet for Regirock/Blissey. The only thing that hurts it is that it uses an attack to discard, so you pretty much have to start with it for it to be useful.

BUt can Lunatone deal a possible 90 to a chomp?? Lunatone is great bench sitter, but Munch can give that possible OHKO T1!

4 Felicity's or early game Roseannes for a basic and an energy or 2 energy to start building the discard? Felicity's is nice and I use it in my Chomp, but Munch is just crazy in the morror and also gives some starters fits!

ANd thanks for proving the point! T1 60 is nice and possible!

    Just an interesting idea!

    Remember how annoying Absol was?
With Munchlax you're almost doing the same thing to YOURSELF.

Except WIht Munchlax, you control your discard an what gets discarded! Also with Munchlax, you have the Possiblity of a KO T1 with Discard! ABsol was annoying because you had NO CONTROL of the cards getting discarded!

He's a good card, but personally, I prefer Unown ?, as you can discard upto 2 cards, and you then draw the same amount AND it costs 0 energy. Plus his pokepower give you the possibility of drawing an additional card each turn. he's his translation:

    Unown ? LV.18 – Psychic – HP70
    Basic Pokemon

    Poke-Power: ?
You can use this Power once during your turn, if this Pokemon is on your Bench. Place 1 Pokemon card from your hand face down. Then, your opponent guesses that Pokemon's type. Flip the card face up, and if your opponent guessed incorrectly, draw 1 card from your deck. Then, return the placed-down card to your hand.

[.] Hidden Power: Discard up to 2 cards from your hand. Then, draw the same number of cards from your deck.

    Weakness: Psychic (+10)
    Resistance: none
    Retreat: 1

Not to mention higher HP, lower retreat, weakness that won't really be hit by much early game (Pft, so Garde one shots it; so what? That takes a while. Think what Gliscor will do to poor Munchlax turn 2 :/). Nice catch... AND it was in DP5, so most likely in Legends Awakened (just in time for Kingdra)

So is Unown ? available for the Grinder?

THis is an awesome oppotunity as I agree it can have benficial situaiton as you can draw and wiht Moonlight it can get Free Retreat. BUt the Bonus on Munchlax is the possible OHKO to their starter.

25% chance that you'll flip both heads. :/
Whereas Unown ?, you get ensured discard 2, draw 2 (which is useful in decks like Garchomp), and possible draw extra card later in the game, when you probably don't want to have either Munchlax OR Unown active. Long run, I think 3 extra cards is more valuable then a possible donk, especially with Call Energy essentially stopping most donks unless you go first (or your opponent is as unlucky as I am).
Plus the whole "Wait a minute, what do I discard?" if you don't get Claydol out right away makes Munchlax seem... Unreliable. Unown's quite a risk too, but at least your hand size will stay the same, so you're not as dependent on Claydol to keep cycling.

...And who seriously will play a Garchomp deck at the grinder (Unown's out in the prerelease two days later)? You want consistency for such a marathon, and Garchomp... If you get paired up against a random deck that you don't have the weakness to match (IE: Walrein), then you're hosed. Maybe next format, when everything is charged up at the same speed as Garchomp, but... The grinder? Seriously? With Gallades everywhere that you can't one shot? </offtopic>

I miss the team rockets magmar. I always thought that card was bad but now I miss it. But the unoun is a close second to it.

But I really like munchlax. When it first came out I tried to make a deck with it but I learned that making a deck built around a lv.x is bad especially infernape.

On a second note. I just relized the TRR Magmar kinda fits perfectly with the deck that way played a lot at cities. Magmortar, catty ty.
