Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Need feed-back on my team!

hello everyone i have another team that i would like to share and see if there are ways to improve it for competitive play. the people in my area are incredibly good and i would like to know if my team can do well and if there are any ways to improve it (barring starting a new team) and so first off, before i put down my team, is that while the ev spreads are strange, they have a purpose, so just read.

Zweilous
item-eviolite
ability-hustle
nature-brave
ev's-252 hp, 80 de, 178 at
outrage
crunch
protect
zen headbutt

this is half of my 2 original pokemon. i was ready a article on this vgc website talking about eviolite, and what some good pokemon are with it. this can survive a intimidated hitmontops, fighting gem close combat, and keep running. it does take quit a bit to take this down, with mainly latios dragon gem draco meteor and a few other attacks able to ohko this. the reason i went with this, instead of hydregon, is that a) it can use eviolite and b) it has the strongest out rage in the game thanks to hustle. the other moves are for coverage and protect is standard in doubles.

landorus-Therian
item-choice band
ability-intimidate
nature-sassy
ev's-252 hp, 60 at, 192 sd
super power
stone edge
u-turn
earthquake

first thing you think when you see the ev's is probably "why is this guy not maxing attack!" well, this is able to take a latios dragon gem draco meteor to the face and keep on trucking. this provides the intimidate support, and with choice band, it can still hit fairly hard with only 60 ev's in attack. the nature, again, is for surviving latios dragon meteors.

bronzong
item-steel gem
ability-heavy mettal
nature-brave
ev's-160 at, 252 hp, 96 sd
iron defense
gyro ball
skill swap
trick room

if you haven't noticed, this team is starting to look like trick room, and so here's the trick roomer. bronzong is a overall good tank and can hit fine with gyro ball. the 2 other moves, you might be questioning, but hear me out. iron defence is for boosting my defence for any physical threats as I didn't ev it. skill swap, is a very under-used move. you can give your opponent a crap ability and take away the pokemons ability, witch is usually their shining aspect about them. it also resets intimidate, so you can intimidate their hitmontops right back at them.

rotom-H
item-charti berry
ability-levitate
nature-sassy
ev's- 252 hp, 116 sa, 140 sd
over heat
willo-wisp
volt switch
thunder wave

now this is the strangest set in the team in my opinion. the low special attack is, guess what! for surviving latios draco meteors. i am really terrified of how damaging it is and i wanted all, if not all, members of my team to live it. the charti berry is so i can survive t-tar's and terrakion's rock slides. with the 2 status moves, i can speed cripple opponents with thunder wave and eliminate physical threats with willo-wisp.

gastrodon
item-ground gem
ability-storm drain
nature-sassy
ev's-252 hp, 236 sa, 16 sd
stock pile
earth power
blizzard
recover

from my team, you may have noticed they don't like politoad or water moves very much. with gastrodon, he's able to soak up those moves and get boosts from them. stock pile is so i am able to tank more and stay in longer if i get 1-2 set up. the attacks, do have a use. blizzard, is able to 2hko latios (you can tell i hate it right?) instead of ice beam 2-3hko'ing it. i haven't talked about metagross much, but i hate that too. the evs and ground gem are able to ohko 252 hp metagross 100% of the time.

amoonguss
item-black sludge
nature-relaxed
ev's-252 hp, 112 de, 140 sd
giga drain
gstro acid
spore
rage powder

here's my last pokemon, and my favorite. I needed a grass type for my team and i was looking and i tried many pokemon, but amoongus have the utility and bulk this team needs. he helps set up trick room, and he (of course) survives latios draco meteor. he can spore everything in sight and the 112 de ev's were to help him survive the physical attackers of the meta. the last 2 moves, i want to test right now. giga drain recovers him and stops him from being taunt bait, and gastro acid eliminates the abilities of pokemon. i think that most of the meta is defined by pokemon and thier abilities or stats. most teams usually have 1-4 pokemon that depend on their ability for their usefulness. amoongus takes it all away and can help against rain or sandstorm.

so that was my team any suggestions, ways to improve, and any just plain comments on my team that you would like to share.

If this is going to be VGC, the only not fully evolved Pokemon you'll want to be using is Chansey. Dragon type attack and I believe fighting type attacks are commonly used in VGC and would take Zweilous down in a hit. Outrage is also a attack I would not use for doubles because it will attack your opponents Pokemon at random.

Like you said, Latios will take it down in 1 hit. You'll be better off using a better attacker. What would you be willing to replace it with or are you set on Zweilous?

i am pretty much set on using zweilous but if a better attacker comes up i might switch it out. as you said about dragon and fighting attacks being common, you would be right, but i did put 252/80 evs in for a reason. it lets him survive a fighting gem boosted max attack hitmontops close combat (what a mouth-ful!) when hitmon top is intimidated. it also lets zweilous survive pretty much everything including banded terrakion close cobmat (-1 attack), metagross banded meteor mash (intimidate doesn't work on this but zweilous still survives it.) and several other common attacks/attackers of the meta. the only thing (i believe from the dmg calculator that i tested) was latios dragon gem draco meteor but with the rest of my team ev'ed to survive it, i feel like i will be fine. if i were to replace it though, i would go for a dragon type or other pokemon that supports my team well. also, i will never use chansey its to gimmicky and physically weak for me.

The same article you're referring to you also explains what Zweilous' shortcomings are and I would definitely advise against using it. The most powerful Outrage in the game isn't great when it's a move that's only going to hit your intended target 40% of the time and absolutely nothing 20% of the time.
