I'm sure that this is a stupid question to most. But every time I try to trade with another game, only 1 game saves its progress and the other game times out. I can't manage to keep both the games to hold their link long enough to trade...gettin kinda irritating. Any suggestions would be helpful.

It happens to me when I am trading from ruby to saphire (Link error) so what I do, because the game is already saved,I turn it off take the link cable off of both advances then adjust, then turn it back on, it should work fine.but could happen again. It has happened to me alot, but I am glad that it does it after the game is saved. I hope this helps.

May I ask what you adjust? As I've tried turning both gba off and on. I've tried switching the cable ends. Switching them while it saves. I've even tried trading back between blue and crystal. Even that doesn't work. I know its not the cable cause I just got a new one and still the same problem...:/

Oh and the error messages I get are..."Your friend is not ready." on the gba that doesn't save and the one that does save says something along the lines of the connection was terminated due to lack of activity on the line...

Do you push the buttons on both gameboys at the same time? Just constantly push the buttons on both games regardless if it says saving the game don't turn it off,or whatever it says, try that. What I mean by adjusting is the cable into whatever gameboy your using. sorry I didn't make myself clear.I tend to do that sometimes.Sorry:(

If I don't push the buttons at the same time, I do get a link error. So I just push them together until I'm in. :( :(

I think I know your problem. If you are trying to trade between any games other than Ru/Sa, you will have problems if you use GBA and/or a GBA link cable. My friend and I had these same problems. What we did was we took 2 GBA link cables. Then, you plug the gray ends into the GBA, and the indigo ends into the squares that would normally be used for 3+ players. Make sure that the indigo end plugs into your opponent's square so that the cables link. This works fine for us.

If you don't understand, I can give you a picture.

That could be it! I've only experimented with 1 gba cable between 2 gbas...will have to give this a shot..thx moon and post for the suggestions.

it could just be your cable. Try trading with a different cable.

It could also depend on what versions you're using. If your using RBY/GSC, I suggest using the original game link cable. Since RBY came out during the existance of Game Boy Pocket and GSC came out during the existance of Game Boy Color, both systems used the standard game link cable. Meanwhile, since Ruby/Saphire came out during the existance of the GBA, ONLY use the GBA GAME LINK CABLE with R/S. (Another idea is getting one of those game link cables that, by the flick of a switch, can alternate between a GBA to a GBC game link cable. I tried one of those out with one of my friends, and it worked very well.)

If I basically said everything that everyone else said, My Apoligies (sorry that I cant spell either  ).

Other than repeating that you need to use a GB-Color link lead for Crystal/Blue, and a GB-Advance cable for R/S, I can only suggest trying the trade using someone elses GBA - is it possible that the link port on one of the units is damaged in some way?

I tried using the original GBC cable on the GBA, not using the GBA cable to trade between Gold and Yellow and it did not work at all, so I am going to do what postdog2Gengar suggested. Cool I hope it works. Thanks:)
