New section needed

I move that a new section be created called a Community Service. There would be two parts. One would be a League locator where folks could find locations near where they live to play. The second part would be a place where folks could advertise or ask for help. This stuff can get lost in a hurry in the Tournamant section. We are a community and the potential exists to promote and foster friendships and alliances far beyond what has been managed to date. Look at the Orlando crowd - Heidi, GymLeaderPhil, and Prof. Zuver are great examples of this type of community. Ask anyone who knows them - it's almost a Pokemon commune. When they went to Gencon - Heidi finds a place to all stay, they travel together in the van - they pile up on the floor like sardines in a extra small can - and they have a BLAST! Those folks are making memories that will last them the rest of their life - and they are sharing those memories with anyone who cares to participate.
What brought all this about is I have a two incidents where players live close to each other but have no idea there are other players within distance. In both cases some are coming (the have rides) and some can't make it (the have-nots/lost rides). Another factor is League - in both of those locations the folks are asking about Leagues. I believe that simply knowing there are other players about might encourage some of the older players to pick up the ball - run to the nearest store that has ever carried League and offer to start a new League. Win-Win. All it takes would be a simple way to do a lookup that won't get scrolled. Perhaps it could be organized by state and town.
PokeGym has the potential to be the glue that holds this community together. I think we'd all agree they already serve a big portion of this need. Let's take it to the next level.

Thanks ScythKing, you do a lot for Pokemon too :)

I appreciate the compliments about Florida Pokemon.
We work hard to bring good things to life.
I write a Pokemon Newsletter that is sent to every
Professor in Florida and Georgia that I know about
and some serious Players besides.
(If any serious players in Florida or Georgia
want to be added email me at: [email protected])

Just for the record, I made my reservations to both Gen Con and
Origins as early as I could and I flew to both these events
and was at a separate hotel from everyone else.
I definately had a great time at both Events.

I am so glad Heidi drove with other members of Florida Pokemon,
because I couldn't ship that HUGE PokeBall that I won at
the Fan Appreciation Tournament home with me, or take it on
the Plane. (MTM, DMTM, and Sensei signed it...a Big Thank You)
so I gave it to Heidi to keep if she could get it home.
It was over three feet in width!
She manage to pack it in the van somehow.

Sorry, if I got way off topic there...
Back to the issue at hand, I recently noticed that The Tournament
and League Play area had more posts and activity than any other
area on the boards. So, I think ScythKing's has a good idea.

Community Board? Hmm I don't think that ultimatly could take place of the Tournaments and League forum. If you posted information about league and it is getting drained quickly, I never found it really wrong to put it back up to the top of the list if you haven't got a single reply. When you do reply to bring it back up to the list try to list something useful about the same subject. Also your topic is going to get drained if there is no other players in the forum that would go to your league. I am the perfect example of this because I am the only person in Northern Colorado and Southern Wyoming combined that actually posts here.

So in order to get your topics about your league and tournaments to get interest, you should get any local players to visit Pokegym and tell them to tell their friends to visit Pokegym. Also tell them to visit the Pokemon-e TCG website. Also if you see a game boy or even one single card on a person, talk to them and tell them about the league and tournaments. It is all too easy to stir community. We just have to do it. Good luck.

I agree with PDZ about what he said about stirring up the professional player community. I love the big events because it is my time to see all of you guys and have fun battles for like two to four days straight. I truly consider all of you friends because we work together to make this game fun. We make these conventions more than what GAMA, gencon, or WotC even plan. I still look forward to the great times ahead. So lets keep having fun.

Well yes actually it's against the rules to post for no other reason that to bring it floating back to the top...
Plus if you'd read carefully - this would be more of a lookup than a postings.
We need the ability for a person to look in SC and see what Leagues are listed there - and they may or may not be "official" Leagues which Nintendo has expressed they will be a little strict on who can host official Leagues.
Anyway - it's a suggestion - if folks prefer wandering around in the dark then fine.

I'll throw in a yea vote with an idea. If you look at theforce.net boards here, you see they are divided into the main sections, with a Section for each region below that.
Clicking on a region will take you to a page with a board for each city with a fanforce chapter. Then, clicking on that will take you to the actual board for your city.
I dunno if this would work for the Pokégym (or if these kind of boards could even support that), but it works efficiently there and has the same basic principle that we are looking at here.

Maybe it could be a good way to organize us San Francisco Bay Area playaz and work out a good place to play. :) It gets my vote!
