We allow members to put forth some of their more personal views (political, religious, support for other sites) in our signatures than we may allow to be discussed in topics (either because they get out of hand or because they fall into free advertizing) but there seems to be a bit of a signature war brewing between a few individuals.

Let's nip this in the bud early.
While you are allowed to put forth your views or advertize sites etc, signatures still need to be of a reasonable size. Having HUGE COLORED text as part of a permanent signature is not allowed.
They become disruptive if they take up half of the screen like that.

Please correct your sigs ASAP before they get deleted and your profiles locked.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Update: A couple of signatures have been edited for size only.
Content has not been touched.
Effective immediately, size=3 is the largest font size allowed in a signature.
Also, while we haven't posted exact length limits, any signature that is long enough to dominate the page it is displayed on will be edited for size.

Signatures are a secondary feature and should not overshadow the content of what is being posted.

Thank you.

bold and size=3

oops just previewing the limits and pressed the wrong button!

It does seem like a very reasonable and responsible limit.

I think that changing font size should be banned on all boards worldwide. There's simply no excuse for ever using that ugly, stupid feature. If somebody needs to make a header or similar they could just use bold, caps lock or italic.

You know, I have to agree. There's really no need to have a larger font... If you can't get your message across at standard size, making it bigger isn't really going to help - if all else, it's going to make it more difficult to see.

Also, with the signature length, while not wanting to set an "exact" length to limit it to, I think it might be a good idea, just so you don't end up with individuals calling rulings unfair and such...

In general, I reccomend taking a look at the GameFAQs.com message boards. They (typically) run smoother than pretty much every message board I see around the net, and considering they typically have no less than 2,000+ users on at any given time (4,000+ right now...) I think that says a lot. Their limits? No font changes (at all) and signature limit of two lines (which, really, is enough....)

Of course, these are just *my* suggestions... it's all your call :)
