Deck construction Rules.

Decks will use Standard 60-card construction with the following exceptions:

  • Only Pokémon with a rarity of Common may be used. Trainers [and Special Energy] with a rarity of [Common and] Uncommon may also be used.

  • Only cards from XY expansions may be used. [Double Crisis counts as an XY set.]

  • No Black Star Promos may be used.

It is important to note the following when preparing to attend this event:
  • A fully charged 3DS or 2DS system will not be required but may result in interesting opportunities. Not having a VG unit may not spare you from said opportunities.

  • Do not add cards to your deck that are unwilling to see potentially dinged or damaged.

  • Pokémon attacks listed on cards will require the listed amount of energy and the same number of different types of energy but not the specific energy type listed.
Example: In order to use Pansage's (XY 10/141 Common) Vine whip attack, you may use any attached energy, not just Grass.

  • Double Colorless energy may still only be used to pay costs listed as colorless.

  • Energy types in play may have unforeseen effects on games in progress.

Bit of a silly question here... But can Professors choose which group (A or B) they want to play in? Or is A exclusively for Nats staff?

I'm a professor whose status has been in flux ever since the update in early May. While I've entered multiple tickets, I've not been able to get my professor status resolved. I even retook the new test to try and speed things along, but it didn't help. I'd like to play in the Professor Cup, but I've had no way to register for the tournament. I easily meet the qualifications as I've judged close to 20 events this year ranging from PreReleases to Regionals.

Do you think that there will be a way for me to register for this onsite seeing as I've had no way to personally register for this event?

My status has also been in flux, but I was finally given access to the forums and was able to register, though I have no idea how eligible I am.

I can't post in the actual Professor Forums to ask (though I can see it), but Pop, did you ever get an answer from Dan regarding whether Double Crisis was legal? My main deck idea revolves around that set, so it is important to know, otherwise I have to come up with something else on the fly.

Got a ruling confirmed with Dan Brandt today.
If an attack calls for discarding an energy card of a particular color, and you don't have that actual color attached to the Pokemon, then you don't have to discard an energy.

Two questions.

1- Does any energy count for Fairy Garden or does the energy have to be fairy type?
2-Would Bagon (ROS 55) need two different kinds of energies to attack using "Almost Flight" or would any energy count for the (F)(W) attack cost?
"...the same number of different types of energy but not the specific energy type listed..."

It would have to be Fairy Energy to count for the Stadium.
Energy does not turn into Rainbow Energy.
The tournament rule only affects attack costs and nothing else.

Bagon would need two different energy (or a Double Dragon Energy).
That is exactly what the rule is about.
