3rd Annual Northwest Team Play Campionship

Thank-you BDS for allowing Pokemon No Baka and myself to conduct the team play chamionship durring this years Northwest Regional Pokemon Championship. We will be using the exact same format as last year becuse it seemed to work very well.

Here are the official rules for the 2008 3rd Annual Northwest Pokemon TCG Team play championship.

The event will take place during the swiss play portion of the Northwest Regional Championship.

There will be three team championship tournaments one for each age group, Juniors, Seniors and Masters.

Teams will consist of not fewer then 3 players and not more then 6. All members must be made up of players from the same age group. If your group had 7 players then you will have to separate into 2 teams, one of 4 players and one of 3.

Only the top 3 players from your team will figure in for your team score. But all players on the team are important to the overall scoring of the tournament as they can effect the scores of rival teams.

The event will be scored like a Cross-country meet in that the teams with the lowest overall score will be declared the winner. Scores will be determined via the final Swiss standing (including all applicable tiebreakers) after all swiss rounds are complete for that age groups Regional Championship play.

The scores of players who do not opt to participate on a team will have the possibility of providing an influence on the scores of the teams in the competition.

Here is an example of scoring:
26 players in the age group

    Team A has 4 players after swiss the finish scores are: 4, 8, 11 & 12
    Team A's score of (4+8+11) = 23

    Team B has 6 players after swiss the finish scores are: 3, 5, 16, 17, 20 & 24
    Team B's score of (3+5+16) = 24

    Team C has 5 players after swiss the finish scores are 1, 9, 18, 19 & 22
    Team C's score of (1+9+18) = 29

Team C has 3 players after swiss the finish scores are 2, 10 & 13
    Team C's score of (2+10+13) = 25

Team A would be declared the winner.

    The remaining 8 players that did not choose to be on a team finished 6, 7, 14, 15, 21, 23, 25 & 26
and their performance did have an impact on the overall scores of the teams in the competition.

Honestly Jeff, I always hated this format for teams. I really think we need a separate side event for this.

After two 2nd places, and rowing our old canoe over a waterfall, Team X-Files WILL win the Championship this year.

I can't wait for regionals! It's always a ton of fun seeing everyone from Oregon again! However, it's too bad that there aren't any scholarships for 3rd and 4th place. =/ Thus, it is gonna be hard to get one, oh well.

Luckily, Regionals is a 20 minute bike ride from where I live. Not sure if I'll actually ride my bike there though with so many people around.

It'd have to be Melee 'cause Brawl is released after States. I don't think I'll run it again though, but maybe we could talk [R]visitor or Phazon to do it.

We always enjoy it when folks from Washington come down and visit, well I do anyway. There may be some players who don't relish the thought of invaders from the north who hold titles like Champion.

Perhaps you won't have to wait all the way until Regionals to see your Oregon friends though. When is WA States again ...

Good to see the information is up....should be "fun" invading Oregon twice in this year...

  11. Well as long as someone brings a cube/wii and smash thats all good. Doesn't have to be a tournament

Just talked to Phazon. He's volunteered but I'll wait until he posts to confirm that we're going through with a smash bros melee tourney.

I am sorry you feel this way, but no one is forced to partipate. IF you don't want to be on a team it is completely your own choice. But as we had very good particpation the past few years, I believe that proves that a lot of people think that team play is a fun idea. There is no way that this could work as a side event. It is designed to be run during the swiss portion of the tournement, and is just meant to be an extra fun event that is held once a year, and nothing more.

Nah, I'll still participate. I just always felt this was a pretty ineffective way of doing a team event.

It's hard to tell with all the sunny weather we've been having in Oregon lately. I think Groudon must be in town.

David, David, David, if it was April already than you would have missed your 40th birthday party. I know I don't want to miss that!
