I hear there is a site (removed, inappropriate site) where anyones pokes can be downloaded....including event pokes etc....now my first question is doesnt this completely destroy the value of event pokes (cause in Pearl I traded much to get the complete 10 ANIV set and others etc.

Now that it is so easy to get every event poke, how am I supposed to trade for these pokes (now that I am back into pokemon) Wouldnt the majority of them be from that site that I would trade for? Would pokes not on the site demand a premium? Thanks for everyone's time.

We're dangerously close to violating the rules of the site on this topic, so i'll stick to what is legal. Those types of programs use an exploit in the game's code to trick your DS into thinking that the GTS is somewhere else. Depending upon how the code for the event pokemon was obtained, it will likely be indistinguishable from a pokemon gotten from a gamestop during the event time frame. There's honestly not much way to know. There is a program pokemon uses to check for hacked pokemon at events, but you'd sooner break into fort knox than get a copy of it.

Placing a "Value" on Event Pokémon is sort of difficult unless you know the exact legit source you are wanting to obtain the Event Pokémon from or whom.

"Value" is novelty in most cases (some, if not most Event Pokémon are not allowed to battle in the current VGC Format) unless you are looking to make it competitive for a tournament- then it can hold some trade bargain value. Like a good IV'd (say two 31's) Pokémon with a complimentary nature to trade for an Event Pokémon. (Every person is different in what they offer and specifics for trading Event Pokémon)

My advice to you is to know whom you are trading with, or know the community they are in and have some sort of reputation for being legit in this area.

Another thing is to try to obtain the Event Pokemon as close to the Event date(s)- do not wait a year later, lol- put it out there right away as soon as the event starts. You will have a better chance at getting legit event Pokémon, as some people like myself who have 2/3 "extra" event Pokémon because I do have multiple game carts.

clone
/klōn/

Noun
A group of organisms or cells produced asexually from one ancestor or stock, to which they are genetically identical.

Now, I know a Pokemon clone is not exactly like that, but the big part of the definition of a clone is "to which they are genetically identical." That's what the Pokemon from the website are, genetically identical clones. So, the website has pretty much made the Event Pokemon more available to the public, while breaking the standard rules of Pokemon. All that the Tournament Organizers can use as evidence are what the program and the D.S. give. Unless the program is a lot smarter than that, there is not a single way to distinguish a Pokemon created by the website from the real Pokemon itself.

This is the best I can give. I would suggest locking this before this gets out of hand.

There is no exploit in the game code found here. You just change your DS' DNS settings to the specified DNS. The DNS is what redirects your DS to the appropriate IP address. In this case, it makes it so when the DS tries to access the GTS, it accesses a different GTS instead.

In any case, event "values" were ruined the moment they discovered a glitch to clone Pokemon. Pretty much every generation has had a cloning glitch. In this generation, there are multiple ways to clone Pokemon. If there was no cloning, you probably wouldn't get event Pokemon because people would only have one and be unwilling to give it up. If you want a non-Pokecheck Pokemon, just make sure it doesn't have the ribbon that is automatically added when you grab it from the service.
