those are the reasons people _like_ apprentice.
it isn't flashy, with unneeded pokemon art and stuff. you can hover over a card and a text summary displays- more than adequate. too much stuff about not playing pokemon? like, some of the terms are slightly different? there are macros that have to do with magic? that does HINDER the experience of the program whatsoever.
when we get down to it, redshark is more intensive, in terms of space and memory, and is SLOWER TO USE. appr games are much faster and more fluid.
the only thing that redshark has going for it is card art- stuff that isnt needed.
sign me up
It was either that or "Noneofur Beezwacks" use whichever one you like more.
If my opponent's try to force Apprentice on me, I'm citing that Redshark default rule. Just a heads up.
Name: Carlos A.
Fact: I have never been able to connect to someone with Redshark.
If you want good players to join these kind of tournaments, you're going to have to make it Apprentice as the default program.
Matchups will go up as early as possible, BUT...
We'll make round 1 due SATURDAY because it's Christmas
THen, we'll run an every-nighter till New Years!
REDSHARK is very glitchy, but it's user-friendliness enables the masses to participate.
People who use Apprentice know how to use Redshark. On the otherhand, there are MANY RedShark users who do not have any idea what to do with Apprentice.
So, in the SPIRIT OF THE GAME (and keeping things simple), I'll ask you PrOs to "Play down" a little and load up your latest version of RedShark for those who only know RedShark. Cool ?
If both players use Apprentice, that's cool. But, you will take a DQ if the kid can't use Apprentice and you lack the tolerance to just give the kid a break and play a RedShark game.
Everyone will NEED to download and Install Hamachi REGARDLESS of which program you use.. :/
Easy now. That kind of statement could be interpreted to be a jab at those already signed up.
____ anyway ________
You shoot me a PM and we'll fix that problem.
mmm I wanna play
Don't mean it to be a jab, I'm just saying-almost all the "pro" players will never use Redshark for the reasons Ryan already pointed out. Apprentice is a WAY more user-friendly program, so I'm not sure where the logic comes from that Redshark is more user-friendly. I've tried both, and have had new players try both, and the overwhelming response is that Apprentice is superior.
Count me in, Jason/Mew Jadester w/ Dialga Garchomp
Yeah if I persevered with apprenticed I might like it more, I just find the options to enter upkeep phase and untap my permanents (whatever they means) to be distracting clutter. It feels like I'm really using something not designed for what I'm doing (which it isn't).
I never had a problem with Redshark. It downloaded in about 3 minutes and runs fine. The difference in space and memory usage doesn't seem significant on my computer.
I'm not against giving apprentice a try, I'm just wary of screwing up while using a program that I'm not comfortable or familiar with.
there is nothing user friendly about redshark.
having pictures of the cards does not make it user friendly. you can hover over a card and see the text in apprentice. it is smaller (better for laptops and such), smaller in size (better for downloads and transfers and space it takes up), is less memory intensive, is faster in game play, is easier to use with macros and hotkeys, is simpler and easier to manage game state, and is easier to connect with (not only do you get errors with the program in redshark, but its more prone to disconnect than apprentice is).
apprentice is extremely intuitive and simple. its so good that its actually a magic program that we use for pokemon. it can cross games because the platform is that good.
make the change to apprentice. apprentice is far superior, and there is no justification for redhsark over apprentice except this line of logic:
it has pictures of the cards, and is therefore better
(despite all the other facts)
tapping is the same as using a pokemon power. you tap it, and you can signal to your opponent that you are using/have used the power. tapping is actually quite awesome. and really, the extra line of text that says it is the X phase bothers you that much? of course its clutter- but that is the chat dialogue only. guess what, you can adjust that object's size and make it smaller. zzzz
Well, if you say it's better, I'll open it up and give it a try. I'm not trying to be stubborn about it or claim that Redshark is better. It just didn't seem so friendly when I tried it before.
Is there a link somewhere to the patch for the latest sets please? I only have up to RR, I think.
Erm... one question:
What version of Redshark are you talking about. I have the most recent version installed and this is nowhere to be seen. >____>
Honestly, it's like you're basing the entire argument over an old version or something.
One more thing: there doesn't seem to be as much uproar among those who actually entered.
I'm not saying anything about Apprentice, but I think that this is something strikingly obvious about your argument.
They haven't entered because they don't like Redshark being the default platform. I'm sure if RA changed his mind to Appr. instead, then they'd join.
Generally, I don't really care. I've never personally had any problems with RS or Appr, so there's no real preference. Besides RS having spaces for all the cards on the field.
