It was a great article. One thing that was strange to me, was the idea that only boys play this game. I know girls that play the card and video game, and watch the anime. My sister still likes the cards, not because of the game itself, but because most of the Pokemon were cute. I think Nintendo did the best job taking over this franchise, because it figured out that these "creatures" appeal to all genders, and all ages. The thought of Pokemon being just a boys game seems alittle absurd, with Pokemon like Pikachu and Manaphy.

From personal experience, I have seen a lot more girls playing pokémon proportionally than yu-gi-oh.

A social worker was telling me about an article he saw about pokémon's psychological effect on pokémon and that too mentioned a male target audience.

It doesn't really matter does it?

It doesn't really matter. I just found it wierd that this is viewed as just a boys game, thats all.

Been saying this for years. Ever since RS hit the 5 million games sold plateau. That was the worst time of this franchise. In 4 years (??? on the time frame) this franchise has gone from bottomed out fad to a powerhouse of a franchise everywhere that has been exposed to it. Japan has multiple official stores dedicated to this franchise, and the US used to have one (though, Nintendo probably made the right business call with World). DP have sold over 10 million worldwide (most definately more, but I'm being cautious about numbers here), and the TCG just had one of the largest open TCG events in the history of all TCGs. 735 players at not-the-largest convention is amazing (how would Nats do at GenCon?). I seriously doubt that there are very many TCGs that can claim to have had an over 700 person open event at a "closed" venue.

Nothing but good things to come from this game. 11 years have passed, and this franchise is arguably stronger now than it has ever been, including the rediculous fad phase. Who knows how powerful the Pokemon franchise will be in another ten years?

Awesome! And so true - it never died but I think it is experiencing a resurgence. We see Pokemon everywhere now especially with the 10 and under crowd. My boys are constantly meeting new kids because someone will have on a shirt or be carrying a plushie or something Pokemon and they will be drawn to each other and start conversing.

    Is that really true?

I will say it was the first time that they lined up all the names correctly.

In hindsight, it probably would have been better to go with R&S than with "EX" when Ruby & Sapphire came out.
