Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Pokemon Video Game Showdown - Now with photos!

I agree with PokemonSteve about the non-US players =

If you read the wording of the rules, even though Darkrai is banned, Smeargle can still use Dark Void. With no sleep clause, that's quite a dangerous move. Wobbuffet's shadow tag is also quite dangerous in doubles. Perhaps trick room will be good with Wobb's destiny bond or a slow smeargle?

Very vague about stalling as to whether they tolerate protect continuously as long as it is chosen timely. Likely to be a situation, as players won't want to attack Wobb and can't switch due to shadow tag.

That double-tie loss rule is risky. A "I'll switch Wobb if you do 'cause it's better to each have a 50:50 chance than both lose" is a realistic situation.

IMO the winning team will be a Wobb/choice scarf tech combo to trap and KO fast with e.g. ice or dragon to common weaknesses and Blissey or other walls to stall appropriately.

20/20...But... all the slots filled in less than 8 hours... would like to go but i only made the random drawing...lol... and wobb is not to bad in 2 vs 2 battle cause you can just have both pokemon ko him before he can retaliate but Lv 50... no garchomp....these rules will allow for some interesting teams to be formed

This is the main problem with the VG-on its own, there just isn't enough resources there to run a championship.

They should just nix the whole championship idea and hold a larger number of less-formal events with smaller prizes.

Were there ever even any "slots?" It seemed like they knew there would be a butt load of people applying, and that the main way they would pick would be through random drawings.

I opened the quiz, chose all of my answers within two minutes, and then hit Submit and the website went down.

When the website opened up again, I hit "Take the quiz" and it said I had TWENTY FIVE SECONDS left. I scrolled like a madman, selected what I remembered, and got a 20/20.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case. I saw this news report first thing in the morning here, passed the test, and I was thrown into the drawing.

I doubt 128 people found out about this and took the test that quickly, but you never know.

why would it matter 'when' you take the online test? there's nothing on the site saying that the FIRST 128 who took and passed got the slots and anyone afterwards was on the 'lottery' list.

if you pass, you're in the running for one of the 128 spots per age group available at the two events, no matter WHEN you take the test. no one knows who got in till the test window is closed and the random drawing is done. it was never 'first come first served'.

Well. let's just say I'm really really ticked off that I have to miss this since I'll be on a study abroad trip this summer. Only banned words can express how I really feel about this.

That's good then. :)

At least if some of us don't get in, we have a chance of getting the unclaimed spots at the actual events. I'm going to the LA one for sure. I'm so busy with things I never get a chance to have any fun for myself. :D

I just took the Junior test and aced it 20/20 in about 2 minutes out of the 35 allotted.
I 've been playing the games since FireRed, in '04.
I'm basically a walking games encyclopedia.

The test is easy.
You will pass.

Test is way easy.

its harder than the JAA test tho.

I had to click the little button that says "Taking test just for fun" cuz i will be to busy working.

Agreed, there should be a LCQ.

In response to the original post, I love this idea. I love the idea of a big, official video games tournament organized by Pokemon USA, and just the fact that the video games got their own tournament with a "POP-style logo" excites me. I'm looking forward to bring this to Norway some day, if possible ...

About the rules, I can see why people complain, since these aren't the kind of rules (2 vs 2) that are generally prefered for DS tourneys. However, these rules look like the exact same rules as those used in official DS tournaments in Japan, right down to the 2vs2 format and the "special DS machines", which I've both experienced at official tournaments (like the DS side event at the Winter Challenges).

I aced the test!
It gonna be a repeat of the last one (JAA)
Thing is my little F.E.A.R. tattic won't work in 2 on 2 battles...
I hope my name gets pulled.....
They also have a list of uber Pokemon that can't be used...
I liek the list.
This forces people to train Pokemon that are not already Powerful.
I ahte the lvl 50 rule.......

Where do the rules say no garchomp? It can be used at the tournies.

That test was far to easy. I got 19/20 and I only took about 7 minutes to answer all of it.
I hope the staff actualy know what they're doing and will actualy be able to tell the hacks apart though. (IV/EV checking at the leased)
Unlike in PRA where I had to tell them how to set up Colosseum and how they were confused with my Japanese Mewtwo.:nonono:

Yeah, doesn't make any sense considering Wobbes can be just as broken as T-tar and Dragonite. More so
if anything.

Those two are banned simply because it's not possible to have either of them at Lvl 50 or below, seeing that they don't reach final stage until Lvl 55.
Salamnce gets there at Lvl 50, and Garchomp at Lvl 48.

They probably just don't realise how powerful Wobby is, some people don't.

Incorrect. The Japanese Saikyou events were all Lv50 and one of them was a Dragonite. So yes, you can get a Lv50 Dragonite legitly.

nah in singles its COMPLETELY BROKEN and should be banned...doubles nah lolz

Its gonna be interestin when everyone finds out if they qualified and a good portion wont be able to go as they took the quiz just to see if they will quailify and when they do, cant go to ny XD What happens then?
