Prerelease Cutbacks over the years.....

I remember when we had to walk to our prereleases....

in the snow....

up hill...

BOTH ways....

so there:tongue:

That's because you live in Northern Michigan!

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

yup. how many incidents of cheating at a pre have there been, since the box for first was eliminated in favor of extra packs for all?

'mom

OH, cheating happens ALL THE TIME at PRs. But it is never enforced because there are no prizes.

deckswapping: you open your packs, and record what cards were in those packs on a set list sheet, along with your name and POP ID#.

THEN you bundle it all up and leave it at your seat; the TO/judges clear the room and then reseat the players at random. decks are built with the recorded set of cards you find at your 'new' seat, NOT the cards you opened. so much for keeping that EX or * you pulled...explain *that* to an 8 y/o.

To the above: I understand what went on during that time. I played in many prereleases back then and I knew of plenty of cheating that went on. All I'm saying is that I don't think cheating is a legitimate argument for cut backs, because that could easily create a slippery slope, which no one wants.
.

Refer to Lawman's post about cutbacks...There have been none...increase in product to more people..spread the wealth...yes there has been an increase in price

Cheating is STILL going on

It is extremely naïve of one to think that just because a box is no longer being given out that "Cheating" has no magically gone away from prerelease tourneys. You still run into decks that are just too good to have been put together from 6 random packs. Especially on the 2nd weekend of the prereleases. Anytime a deck has a 3-3-3 line of one of the good stage 2's in the set we know that deck was not just put together that day from one set of 6 packs.
As long as there are records kept and posted, there will be players that will bend and break to prerelease rules just so that they can feel superior

Then they are pathetic beyond words for cheating at a fun event with absolutely nothing on the line.

Ill keep the trade offs, i remember when you had to pay for cities and states... so i'd rather pay 25 for pre release and have a free states. But i wish they would bring back pre release cards, because if the price goes up then the cost effectiveness is gone for me i could just put the extra 10 dollars in and buy a booster box. 25 pre 25 draft+10 =booster box

Here what I hear a lot of complaining about

pres were $20, now $25

a Family of 4 use to have to pay $80,

8 x 4= 32 pack, close to box, and 80 is AROUND where you COULD find a box for.

Now its $100 for a family

so $100 for 32 packs, not very worth it.

This is NOT putting into play gas, fast food for on the road, ect, ect, ect.

I think $25 is a bit steep.

^And I think 2 bucks for a dozen eggs, 5 dollar gallon of milk and 3.50/gal gas is a bit steep too. Things go up in price over time. Just the way things are. You still get a good value as compared to retail. True, you could buy a booster box for less than $100.

The value of the dollar went down so we have to pay more? Seriously, if you are not satisfied with the way PRs are going, don't go. Just leave the packs you would've opened for the booster draft afterwards.

But i wish they would bring back pre release cards, ...

Prerelease cards never left. We got Porygon2 at the last one.

I'd really like the pins back.

6 packs to play with - $25 X 5
Prerelease card - free with entry fee
Promotional memento - free with paid admission
Basic energy cards - free but you have to return them
2 more packs - when you return those Basic energy cards
Gas and food - $50
After Main Event drafts - $25 X 5 (sometimes more)
Whiffing on pulling a Level X - ARRRGGGGHHHHH
Friendly's - $60
Spending time with Poké-friends - priceless.

Sure buying a box is cheaper. But is that as much fun?

I was not really talking about me, but friends.

I know everything is going up in price, food, gas, PRE's.

But when it gets worst, what are parents going say, cut Gas, or cut the PRE's?

But I do agree, there is no fun without the event! I love them.

Just expressing my concern for familys.

Okay, so, I started going to Pokemon Prereleases since Unseen Forces. Over the years, i noticed the prices and prizes going up and down. Here is what I have been noticing since UF at the PR's i go to.

UF-$20.00 adm. 6 Packs to play with, 4 for completing. Promo Card. Promo Pin.

DS-Same as UF.

LM-$20.00 adm. 6 packs to play with, 2 for completing, deck box. Promo Card. Promo Pin.

HP-Same as LM. Only PR I went to where 1st pace for each age division won booster box.

CG-Same as HP.

DF-$20.00 adm? 6 packs to play with, 2 for completing, deck box. Promo Card. Promo ZPin

PK-Same as DF (except for promo pin).

DP-$25.00 adm. 6 packs to play with, 2 for completing, 60 Deck Sleeves. Promo Card.

MT-Same as DP.

SW-Same as MT

GE-Same as SW.

MD-?

So, what will we see for the future? Do you like what is given at PR today or did you like the past?
Discuss.

!?!?!? here in canada... they're all $35 for each player... I wouldn't be complaining... :nonono:

Yeah, I remember the good old days when you'd win packs for placing 1-8.

Winning a Box of RG was definitly what got me back into Pokemon.

However, I do see how PUSA couldn't keep that up. But even still the downwards prize creep has annoyed me. But I gotta say, the Sleeves are a wonderful idea. I'm so glad that they actually listened to the players and gave them merchandise that we wanted/needed. (rather than a notebook like in PK. Which actually wasn't that bad. I use it for decks + stuff)

Prereleases are a highlight of my playing right now, as I am so out of the loop I have no good cards. (8 months at college w/o a car screws your season over pretty well.) Like BJJ763 said: Having fun with your friends is priceless.

$25.00 US verses $35.00 Cdn yet our exchange rate is within pennies of each other. Think your getting burned come play up here with your northern cousins.
Packs like around $3.00 US give or take a bit $5.00 Canadian
Today the US exchange was US $1.00 Cdn $0.09861 less than a 2% difference.
No wonder we buy our boxes over the net

THERE we go...

that's exactly what I was thinking... the equivalent of $34.5135 US.... that's just ridiculous....

The cost effective arguements about buying a box of cards is ludicrous! Every single card is much more valuable when those are the cards you're going to play with.

I know it is expensive for a family to attend these events but have you gone to the movies lately? Dollars per Hour Pre-release is cheaper.

I like the booster draft so much I was considering financing it by buying the booster box, providing the packs and collecting the cards at the end of the event making it free to play and I end up with the same cards I would have had if I openned the packs. Has anyone done something like this? Is it a stupid idea?

...the main reason to go to prereleases is cheaper packs, but that idea isn't half bad either (but it would eliminate the previously mentioned reason)
