If that card come back from PSA graded or "authentic" it would be worth it!

If you do not want to grade it for the $35(small price to pay IF it is real) I am sure you can send that card to select people on here to look at and if they said it was real everyone would believe it
 
Well sorry about everything, there's this dude who trolls here with random "unique" fake cards. If you want to blame someone for everyone thinking this is a fake card, blame it on DarkPersian. But like Rusty says, you can get it authenticated by PSA and we'll see what happens.
 
No, I definitely understand the skepticism after looking up the darkpersian hitmonchan thing thread. I just looked into PSA (my only real exposure to that was being nerd-ily obsessed with the sports card guys on QVC back in the day yellong about cards being PSA GEM MINT 10)) and I'm going to start the process when I get out of work.

I'm from new jersey. Thanks for giving me a straight answer! I'll be back here soon enough hopefully. Even if for some reason it ends up fake, I'll come back and take the hate I deserve lol.
 
if you do get the results, and it is a fake... there won't be hate because 1) you actually did it unlike someone COUGH COUGH Dark Persian... 2) we assume you're account is a troll account because it was recently made.
 
If the poster were DarkPersian, a mod would've done something about it by now.

I hope it's real, 'cause if it is then that's yet another neat relic of the past.
 
The chances of the card being real is slim to none. Reason being is a lot of us have been collecting since then. Something like this, which you describe as being pulled from a retail pack bought from a retail store, shouldn't have flown under the radar for 14 years. That said, all of the markings match perfectly to a Shadowless Magneton. If you don't mind potentially throwing away $35 dollars, then by all means send it to PSA. Just know that it is very likely fake because errors don't come as a one-of.

Had it been obtained through some back channel to WotC instead of in the manner you described, I would be a bit more optimistic. I would however be very interested to see a picture of the back of the card please. Or just an answer- is the border on the back blue or red?

As to fakes being bought from TrU- it's rare but it does happen.

And I apologize for the treatment you have received thus far. A lot of these guys were burned pretty good (could have been avoided by following the rules about not doing deals through PM and with unverified peeps, but whatever) so please take that into consideration before judging the community here.
 
People were burned by Darkpersian because the people who should of taken care of him didn't. If I did not point out the lie's in that dead thread he probably still would be on this site undetected.

I don't think its fair to blame people for doing things through pm. It was just a bad situation and it should be left at that.

I think it's worth the risk to send this in to PSA. Personally, I'd buy the card for ~$10 then send it in to PSA for $6 with the rest of my order. It would be a while before I got the results, but it could prove worth it, even if it comes back fake. It it's fake, then we know that this kind of card is truly fake, and if it is real, I'd get a nice new error in my collection.
 
Well the last few posts have certainly been more encouraging than the last set. I will uploa a picture of the back when I get home from work in about an hour. Honestly, I'd be more surprised if it comes back fake regardless of how likely it seems because I have always been very good at avoiding fakes whether it be cards or games or clothing in my collecting days, even back then. That combined with the fact that I've been matching it next to my other real cards and can't find any differences at all.

Like I said, I'll be sending it to Psa along with a few other cards ASAP. Gary, is there a reason they wouldn't grade
It? It's not like the preraichu where they can't verify whether the stamp is real or not. They would just be verifying of the card is a real wotc produced card.

I'll be holding Battle Roads over the next few weeks around South Jersey and as far north as Freehold.

Lack of evidence is not a reason to have a lack of skepticism. On the other hand, we wouldn't want to assume guilt either.

Any real or fake cards that have no documentation to support their legitimate existance won't ever make it to the grading process. Itll be kicked out at research.
 
Well, that's a bummer. There is documentation that a Magneton exists, this just doesn't have the holo. Don't they grade the dark dragonite misprint?

Pokepop, that's pretty far south but I am in south jersey quite a bit if you could give me some dates for when the battle roads you're running take place? I go to a lot of shows in the philly and new brunswick areas.

Nah. That's good. I was hoping for red borders that would confirm that Trainer Deck C was in some capacity printed. Without seeing the card first hand, and the common knowledge of Base errors, I think you have a fake sadly. I hope you can meet up with PokePop though so we can get a definitive answer.

The Dark Dragonite is a documented error...all the sites talk about it and have for many years so PSA will grade it. Your card isn't real anyway so you can save your money and time:)

Cool, my friend in the area buys things at the store where you are holding the May 26 tournament. I'm going to be down there that day, so tentatively, I will hopefully see you then. We can arrange something more specific when the date gets closer if this sounds good to you?

Any hints on what those specific things are so I can check it out myself? Or do you guys prefer to keep that a secret from us uninitiated folk to prevent better fake cards?

And gary, thanks so much for your support. Continuing to base your decisions off of nothing other than "it's never been seen before" is going to get you far! I understand that you are certain this card is fake just like you believe there's no such thing as the Prerelease Raichu based on your other thread. That doesn't mean you have to come tell us this every other post :biggrin:. If you can point out anything about the images I posted that make you believe it's fake or give me any more tips on figuring out it's authenticity, by all means, I apologize.
