I will say AmiAmi is a great site to deal with but the downsize is they are most hobby things like toys, figures, bishoju and all that.also when you find something and it says released then you click on their link sometimes it will be sold out and takes awhile for them to even get stuff back sometimes not at all.japanese pokemon packs at amiami are good prices but once they are gone they dont restock.

Yes, I noticed that. Both of the sites seem to have very little stock of the cards... Figures on the other hand. Man, I didn't even know they made some of those toys! The inner kid is gleeful.

Ok, well, things didn't go as well with PokeOrder as I'd hoped.

Here's the chain:

Hi Steve,

I received the order. Unfortunately, it's once again packs of BW5 and not
packs of the Dragon Selection series. I am OK with keeping the BW5 as I can
start collecting that set too, but the pricing on your site reflected the
Dragon Selection packs (which typically run $3.00 more expensive). How shall
we remedy?

I looked at this order myself and double checked on the site, you must
be getting confused with something else

steve

:nonono: Oh yay, this is going to be fun. I keep it civil even though he was pretty unprofessional in his response

I honestly don't believe i am. I took video and pictures of me opening the box. The order is for dragon selections but the packs are actually dragon blast or the other dragon pack from bw5. I can send you my video and video from YouTube of what actually dragon selection packs and cards look like if you'd like.

They're Japanese cards with a similar name, so I can understand how there can be a mixup... I'm just trying to set it straight.

After no answer, I sent another email:

Hi Steve,

Here is a video showing a guy opening some dragon selections packs:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grgdzDQLOCY

You can see the artwork on the packs, that the cards are all holo and that they have a sort of "DS" logo on the bottom right of every card. Here is a screen cap from the video: http://easycaptures.com/fs/uploaded/673/8406428910.jpg

My video is pretty huge, so I'm working on getting it uploaded to Youtube, but here are some pictures I took at the same time. You can see the packs should look like this: http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Japanese-Pokemon-DRAGON-SELECTION-5-Unopened-Booster-Packs-25-Holofoil-Cards-/00/s/MTUwMlgxNjAw/$%28KGrHqV,!qEE8WZ9U-wIBPIi5pHlJw~~60_35.JPG -- but they don't. Even your site shows the correct artwork: http://www.pokeorder.com/dragonpack.html

From what I can find what I actually got was this: http://www.collectorscache.com/stor...oductID=55462&CategoryID=849&tabid=&tabindex= -- which is dragon blast, a BW5 set that came out after Dragon Selection (which came out in January I believe).

Anywho, to the pics. I got 6 each of Cold Flare and Freeze Bolt, and you can see the 2 Dragon Blast packs in there. As I said, we're going to start collecting this set as well, so it's not a huge issue, but the problem is that Dragon Selection costs more than normal boosters, and in both orders, I paid the price for the dragon Selection pack.

I enclosed pictures of the packs received as well as the packing slip. I had one pack opened to show they aren't dragon selection.

The response:

We dont make these cards please dont order them no more as no one else has ever said 1 thing wrong about these,

Super professional. Perhaps PayPal will assist in a partial refund.

Here's a similar thread I pulled from PokeBeach. All credit goes to the original author:

I think that a thread needs to be started for people -particularly newer players- to navigate all these pokemon buying web sites, so here is a resource for the average pokemon consumer.

Let's look at different Pokemon Card carrying sites and their uses:

PokeOrder
This site's variety is huge, and they are one of the few that carry Japanese cards that are newer. They also have some very good prices in the Booster Pack/Box areas, although they also have some pretty bad ones. Outside of that pretty average prices, but I applaud their vast variety.

Troll and Toad
This site is the best as far as their single card prices go in general, but it's a minefield. There will be a couple bad prices mixed in, as well as less-than-desirable conditions on many cards.. Another thing that T&T is notorious for is being less than honest. Their staff they send to events tends to overcharge and take advantage of newer players. (I'm not saying they all do this, but just hanging around in their store at Nationals and other events I've seen this with my own eyes.) Although, you cannot beat a lot of their singles prices and their shipping rates are superb. ($0.99 for up to 100 singles.) They do make sure to give you reciepts, but it's your responsibility to save them. Another member posted a card he recieved in less-than-desirable condition, and I remember my friends and I have gotten cards that weren't in the best of condition. I recieved one with a sticky residue on it. So, I'd steer clear of buying any overly-expensive cards and/or collectibles. On January 5, 2012, I recieved a shipment from them of 4 RH AbiliBoars, 4 Tepigs, and 2 Pignites. The cards were protected only by two pieces of paper on each side of the stack. No toploaders, no sleeves, nothing. Needless to say all of them were scratched severely and many of the commons had gouges in them. (Luckily the Emboars didn't.) If you can find the same price for what you need elsewhere (or maybe even just a little worse price) I would go elsewhere without a doubt.

BB Toy Store
This is the place for cheaper plushies and toys. Most prices on this site are pretty average, and their playing supplies section isn't too shabby.

Toy Wiz
This site is bigger than BB Toy Store, but more expensive with their pokemon toys/plushies. Prices here are exponential compared to many other sites, but it has much better pokemon toy selection. It has the highest quality in general toys/plushies, but quality comes with a price.

Pronto
This is where you want to go for general electronics, games, and movies. It has pages and pages of games and movies, everything from new releases to the oldies. I found movies I didn't even know existed.

Nextag
This one's a mess. It's dozens of pages of random pokemon-related items, from cards to plushies, party streamers to games. It's the equivilent of a pokemon flea-market, except more like store prices and store quality. (And definitely more cleanliness than a flea-market.)

Gamingtec
This site has quality product, average pricing, and a medium variety. One thing I do like is the large amount of sales that seem to go on on this site. This seems like a good site for standard playing equipment like sleeves, deckboxes, etc.

Professor-Oak
This site always sends in superb condition, and often runs specials. Many of their more rare singles are drastically overpriced, so I'd look elsewhere for anything that isn't commons.

Hardrock Pokemon
This is a super-site for Japanese merchandise, literally shipped straight from Japan. They have just about everything imaginable, from school supplies, to clothing, to even mirrors. If you're looking for Japanese merchandise, this is a hotspot. However, as with most Japanese Pokemon things, it is VERY pricey. Some plushies range between $20 - $500.

Gathering Ground
This is a fantastic site for deals. Their prices often even top that of Troll and Toad, which is superb. Many useful cards are only a penny. They have a pretty good selection, but it's difficult to navigate their site and find what you're looking for. If you've got an eye for deals and/or are hunting for commons/uncommons, you may want to try this site. However, the shipping here is quite costly, weighing in at around 70 cents per single.

Stop 2 Shop
I've got good reports of service and card condition. I checked the site out, and their prices seem to vary quite a bit. Some prices are very low, like their 20 cent cards. However, on many of their holos the prices are very high. You'll have to hunt through the prices to get a good deal. However, if you're building an extreme rogue this is definitely one to check out. All sites raise the prices by how much people buy the cards, but this one is to the extreme. Holos that are used very sparsely get bumped up pretty high for what they are.

I hope Pokemon players/consumers will find this useful in making various purchases.

Thanks Daelum. Hardrock Pokemon seems to be gone. Shame, I wanted to check them out.

I've never personally ordered from professor-oak, but the wife of guy who runs it is our regional PTO and I've bought from him when he brings his product to events. I'd agree on certain prices being higher, but he keeps his stuff in good condition, and there are deals to be had.

Hardrock Pokemon is now Pokevault.
Brian was in trouble for the Hardrock part of the site.

The pricey plush (upto $500) are the shiny beasts pokedolls, they are lotto promos.

Quick update which I've also added to the main post...

Pokevault Update

I went on vacation and my order arrived while I was gone. It was shipped 9/1 and actually landed in NY on 9/2 somehow... It sat in customs until it showed up at my local post office on 9/9. Just over a week from shipment until delivery -- pretty awesome.

PokeOrder Update

I ordered 3 Keldeo boxes which I cancelled once I saw the issues I was having with Pokeorder. When I got back from vacation, I had my order sitting on my porch -- 3 Keldeo boxes that I didn't pay for (they'd refunded me). Sheesh, that's a costly mistake for them. I shot over an email to ask how they wanted to handle that. We'll see how soon they respond.

Potomac Distribution

While on vacay, I couldn't find Dragon Vault so I figured I'd order from these guys. They had a decent price on a box of 6 of the blisters and luckily they were on my route home and offered in-warehouse pickup.

I ended up finding the DV packs in a Walmart while on the road so didn't need to pick up and they shipped the order to my home. Shipping was $8.95 via Fedex and the order arrived the very next day.

These guys have a LOT of stuff (new, old and non-pokemon too), but they are more for volume ordering. If you want a box or a case, they might be a good spot to hit. Going to see what their prices are like for other things, but so far their prices on the BCR box is the same as D&A Card World, so I'd only win on quicker shipping, but will lose on not getting free shipping.

Overall, looks like a solid company, will need to place another order to see how things go, but I definitely will keep them on my list of places to shop.

Pros:

  • Large selection of bulk pokemon products old and new
  • reasonable shipping and quick order processing
  • pickup for those in the VA area
Cons:

  • Only sell bulk
