As most of you know, both RB2 and GH4 are coming out within the next 4 months on all four consoles.
Both games are gonna be great with unique features. I just wanna hear your opinions on which you like better and what console you'll get it for.

Here is a little info on both games:

    Rock Band 2:
This will be similar to its previous version with the addition of band tour online, with no more "leaders".
In the middle of a song, if someone is failing they can now change difficulty or switch instruments with a band mate. Another mode in the game is "Training Mode" which teaches you how to play the instruments better.
The instruments are pretty much the same except for a limited edition electric drum set which have three additional cymbals but they will be sold for $300 SEPARATELY. Here is a picture of it:

    Guitar Hero: World Tour:
This will be significantly different from its previous versions as it will include drums and a Microphone.
The "Battle of the bands" feature allows you to play with 3 of your friends vs 4 other people online to see who can accumulate a higher score in a set of songs. You will also get to create your own songs but no singing will be allowed due to copyright reasons. The GH4 drum set is unique with an additional cymbal which makes a total of 6 beats. Here is a picture of the GH4 drum set:

note: all of GH4 peripherals will be compatible with rock band 1 not confirmed for RB2 and all of RB instruments will be compatible with GH4

Ok now lets hear what you have to say, opinions, preferences, facts, and anything about this topic.

I'll wait and test both games when they premiere at Gamestop next year. I'll go with whatever franchise has the better hardware, as I can't go beyond Medium in anything.

Personally, these types of games don't appeal to me at all, I can't say I enjoy the majority of their soundtracks and it doesn't warrant a purchase for the few that I do, I also find it very expensive.

Umm, where did you hear that from? Activision (owner to rights of GH) said they will not allow RB controllers, or any other controller not licensed by Activision, to be used with any of the GH games, according to all of the documentation I have read. Furthermore, I also read the GH4 drums were made with extra pads (cymbals) to specifically make them incompatible with any of the RB games. The only controllers I know that can crossover is the RB guitars to GH and the mics are compatible with each other on both games.

I personally am just buying the RB2 game and not the bundle, since I have all the instruments from RB1 and the bundle will be released a month after the game itself, and will just invest in the awesome $300 Ion drum kit and also buy the bundle for GH4 (cause it will be cool to see how they do drumming).

Isn't there something you can buy that can make the $300 drum kit like standalone or something?

These things are getting so expensive though, it might be wise to save up the money and get a real electronic drum kit.

I plan to purchase just the discs for both games, as I have enough of the hardware now. I may consider getting the GHWT Guitar controller though...

I think it is a standalone drum kit that actually can plug into the XBOX 360 USB port to be used a controller for the RB2 game.
I don't think there is anything else to purchase to make it a standalone electronic drum kit. I haven't read anywhere that you had to buy anything extra. I think that is why it costs $300. Also, it can teach you how to play real drums if you want to learn. At $300 and it doubles as a controller and standalone drum kit, it is well worth the price.

They had announced that at first but recently an activision official was interviewed by gamespot and he announced that all of the rb peripherals will be compatible with gh4. NOW about the drums, he said that when you insert a rb drum set into your console the game will "sense" that its a different drum set it goes into a different mode with 4 pads instead of 5. He said "Its ridiculous to expect people to have 2-3 drum sets in their houses"

The drum set is wireless and even though it can teach you how to play drums it is nowhere close to being worth $300 IMO off coarse.

You can get a real electronic drum kit on eBay for $450. I think I'd rather get that. $300 for the drums + $60 for the game is close to it anyways.

The Rock Band 2 Drum set actually seconds as a real electronic drum set, just like a normal one would. So thats pretty neat.
I think over all I like GH4 better, but Rock Band two will definitely be good.
I'll be really glad if it turns out that the drums and guitar for each work with the other game. That would be great.

Well, if the sets are compatible, why argue over which is better. Just buy both =D

Because not everyone is that rich. I have like 2 months to save up enough money for just 1 (Guitar Hero: World Tour), with an income of $0.

My opinion? Guitar Hero: World Tour will PWN RB as usual.

What I'm getting at, if you can use rock band instruments with guitar hero, there shouldn't be any argument as to which is better. You just get the instruments for one, then just buy the other game without the instruments.

actually toxictaipan makes a good point not everyone has the money to buy both or want to buy both for that matter since they're both similar games

im guessing in the end all of the instruments for rb2 and ghwt will be compatible with each other, but its just a hunch, after all ghwt and rb1 are directly compatible to each other

No, you cannot use the Rock Band guitar on Guitar Hero, it only works one way.

The RB1 Guitar Controller does not work with GH3 (and earlier games) but it DOES work with GH: Aerosmith, and is reported to work with GH:WT. So with GH:WT and RB2 all new and old equipment for both games will be compatible.

I know what you were saying, but there will be one which is better. I still don't see the sense in it though. Why not just get the one you want, and put the $60 from the other one towards a box of Pokemon Cards? No sense in getting both IMO.

Just found this in my thread. Supposed leak of GH:WT setlist. http://www.electricpig.co.uk/guitar-hero-world-tour-leaked-track-list/

If that is true, there is NO WAY RB will win.

There are a lot of good songs there, a few of which are also on the RB2 track list. However, the RB2 track list has a lot of great songs also. The reason why I consider RB better than GH currently is the fact that RB has new tracks available for download every single week. GH does not do that. Also, RB allows you to download 1 or 2 songs of the set seperately, where the "track packs" for GH are 3 song packs and if you only want 1 song from the pack, you have to purchase the entire pack. Also, the RB 3 song packs are cheaper than the GH ones. GH is 500 MP, where RB is 440 MP. Activision needs to start coming out with more downloadable songs and do it where you can purchase single songs from the pack if you want. If Activision does not start coming out with more tracks to download, RB will run away with it.

Both are great games and I have invested in every different copy of GH (GH1 (PS2), GH2 (PS2 & 360), GH3 (360), GH: Rocks the 80's (PS2), and GH: Aerosmith (360)) and RB (360).

Actually on the official Guitar Hero Forums, I believe it was confirmed that Guitar Hero: World Tour will get new downloadable content weekly. I'm not 100% sure though. I'll see if I can find the thread.

It's pretty much neck and neck so far.
