Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

RR Prelease, Brookfield, WI 10/30!

I guess I should start my tourney report. :)

Got there, met people as usual, and opened packs. After opening packs I made a deck. Lemme just get to the meat of my report... :p

Round 1 - Cody
Cody got out absolutely... NOTHING. I easily beat him with my 2nd turn Dark Magneton.
1-0; 3 points

Round 2 - Peter
Peter is a cool kid; however, this was a tournament. As usual, I gave Peter his plate of royal ownage of the day.
2-0; 6 points

Round 3 - Adam (Ice Cold)
I could not get set up this game. Even getting both of my Qwuilfish running was not enough to win. He got Dark Tyranitar active and ate me for lunch...
2-1; 6 points

Round 4 - Quinn (SLOW DECK's son
This game was absolutely crazy. I was down two prizes and was able to even things out at one prize to one prize using Dark Magneton to move Energy to useless places on the Bench. When he brought his Rocket's Moltres ex active, I forced him to Retreat by Burning it with Dark Houndoom. He switched out and passed. I was able to Burn the new Active Pokemon as well, and he could not switch. I then switched out for my own Rocket's Suicune ex and prayed that he would get tails for the flip after hitting him for 50. He got tails, and that was game. If it would have been heads, the game would have ended differently. Good game, dude!
3-1; 9 points

Round 5 - Alex
This was an easy game. When I saw him slap a Dark Gyarados on the Bench, I powered my Dark Magneton and ended the game quite quickly from there.
4-1; 12 points

Round 6 - Kyle (Pooka)
Heh. We Ided. :) IDs are my friends! ;)
4-1-1; 13 points

I ended up getting 4th place overall, but 1st in 11-14. That was quite nice!

Following the main event was a Modified event.

Round 1 - Chris
Chris was playing a Gardevoir deck. However, I never allowed him to even get out a Gradevoir of any sort. Team Magma's Groudon took all 6 prizes for me. :)
1-0; 3 points

Round 2 - Zachary
Zachary said he was playing a Magma deck as well. However, it was quite warped. Oh well. :p
2-0; 6 points

Round 3 - Cody
Cody was playing my Monarchy deck, so it was interesting. I was able to take him out within the last minutes of the round.
3-0; 9 points

Round 4 - Nicole
We Ided. Boy, I love doing that! :p
3-1; 10 points

Now there was a cut to top 8. I was 3rd seed, so things went downhill from there...

Top 8 Game - Jeff (menoknow)
Jeff plays Monarchy, so I would be playing against this deck as well. Since I had never yet lost to Monarchy, I was confident with my deck. However, after lasting all 30 minutes playing, he was ahead by 1 prize when time was called. Poor, poor me... if I would have been able to get my next turn, I would have tied it up yet again...

After that miserable loss, I had to play for 6th/7th place against...

6th/7th Place Game - Matt (Rulemaster)
I did not feel good at this point. My Team Magma deck suffered its first loss ever, and I was playing a mirron match. besides that, I had a headache and was starving because it was already almost 7 PM. I dragged the game out, but I got out my Team Magma's Claydol too late to revive from a game I was behind in from the start...

I ended up taking 7th place overall, but I was the highest ranked 11-14 player. That was fine by me.

I had to take apart my Magma deck right after putting away my TRR card. Yes, that means I will be playing something different tomorrow at Whitewater.

Thats about it in a nutshell.

It was a fun tournament, got to meet a lot of nice people. I went 4W- 2L in the main tournament and got 7th place, lots of 4-2 people, 4-1-1, and better- but I feel good about the draft deck that I made, and I know what's out there for tomorrow's Michigan tournament, Rockford, and Manitowoc- I'll have an advantage over some of the people.

The modified tournament was good as well, 4W- 2L again, got 4th this time. I really like this new set and I'm sure others who have seen the cards will agree that this will radically changed modified once it's legal. I look forward to playing at Hobbytown again on Nov 20th. I will have another card to give out then for sure...

Thanks to everyone who came for making it a great day! I had a blast! :)

We had 28 for the prerelease and 23 for the MF side event.

Those with a 3-3 record or better in the prerelease are listed below, in descending order:

Adam
Alex*
Derrick*
Kyle
Matt
Joe*
Jason
Quinn**
Ryan
Rob
Jeff
Cory
Jessica*
Peter
Richard
Abe
Nikki*
Josh*

*11-14 Player
**10- Player

So, let's look at how each age group fared in terms of the percentage of the group going 3-3 or better:

15+: 11 of 17, or 65%
11-14: 6 of 9, or 67%
10-: 1 of 2, or 50%

When we look at the top 8, only 4 are in the 15+, while the 15+ division outnumbered the other two divisions combined by 17 to 11.

I'd say that's a pretty nice showing for the younger age groups! :D

All told, I gave out a total of 11 boxes of TRR yesterday. Please use them to prepare for the City Championship, just 3 weeks away!

Yay! Even Jared says we are special! :)

3rd place? From what you said before, I took 4th place... are you sure that Kyle and I should be switched around on that list? Just checking. ;)

Thanks Jared, this was a great tournament. I only wish that I could make it up on the 20th but im busy that day.

Out of those 11 boxes, there were a total of 2 (maybe 3?) Shining Pokemon. I know that I was talking to Adam beforehand about the rarity of the things, and I thought they'd be 1 in 5 boxes. Guess I was right...

Yeah, I owned him in the 6th round with a turn 2 rocket's raticate. Today at our prerelease I got a shining treecko (again) and a shining mudkip. As far as I know, we opened a case and those were the only 2 shinings pulled.
