Super Mario Advance 4 to feature e-Reader scanned extra levels (and other stuff)

[CHRISBO EDIT - Fixed title to be more descriptive (I had no idea what "SMA4" was at first).]

The game's already available in Japan, but Nintendo's slowly getting prepared to launch Super Mario Bros. 3: Super Mario Advance 4 in North America; the game was recently delayed in the US until October 21st. So we've got a bit of a wait.
Nintendo recently updated the box art of the game to incorporate its big game design inclusion: e-Reader card upgrades. Included with the game will be a sample of what players will be able to do with their e-Reader scanner for Super Mario Bros. 3, including new levels as well as trainer animations. And Nintendo added a starburst to the Super Mario Bros. 3 box to tout that feature prominently.
Box art.

I'm happy that I have an e-Reader, but sad that I don't have a second GBA to connect to.

One GBA would have the game in it, and one would have the e-Reader. That's why you need two.

I can't wait, this was my second fave game ever.. And, I'm getting an SP soon (and selling GBA to my brother), so I'll have two for the scanning. :D

Hmm... now thats cool... But what I really want is my GBA version of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. That one was the best ever. It better be Mario Advance 5 or else.

Well, seeing as how Square and Nintendo are on friendly terms again, we might see a port of Super Mario RPG.

Personally, I'd rather see some new blood pumped into GBA. Not just it living as SNES Part II.

Actually, Super Mario RPG is coming soon as a game called Mario and Luigi for GBA. It's on Nintendo's site, though it just says that it has been announced.

Er... No. Mario & Luigi is something completely new. It isn't a port of Super Mario RPG.

BPM,

I'd have to disagree with you on the GBA just being SNES Part II. There are plenty of great games out there that are fresh and evolve genres, such as Golden Sun, Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, Wario Ware Microgames, Metroid Fusion, Advance Wars, and the upcoming Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. True, the GBA does have a lot of remakes, but I don't feel that's really a terrible thing. I no longer have a workering NES or SNES, and even if I did, I wouldn't have room for more than just my GCN in my dorm room anyways. With the addition of the Game Boy Player, I can play all the classics I love on the big screen again in working form without having to mess with multiple systems. I think it's quite nice to be able to go back and play the classics like Super Mario Bros., Metroid, and Excitebike. Also, there are plenty of kids out there that haven't experienced the NES or SNES era. Now they have the chance to go back and experience some of the greatest games ever made, like Yoshi's Island, Super Mario Kart, and F-Zero. I'm extremely excited about going back and playing Super Mario Bros. 3 again, especially with the promise of unprecedented e-reader support.

Of course, that's not to say that the thought of having a brand new Super Mario Bros. or Zelda game doesn't have me drooling at the mouth. Nintendo has very few money-making classics that they can release again though, so it won't be long before we'll start seeing some new ones coming out. Here's hoping at least...

Matthew :)

Somehow I don't think so. From the screenshots I've seen, it doesn't have anything to do with SMRPG. Most likely the person was just misinformed.

That happens a lot. A few years ago, I sent a letter to Nintendo asking why Princess Toadstool was just called "Toadstool" in Super Mario RPG, and while I didn't get the desired answer, I did get something interesting. Here's the exact quote:
You last question was about the princess's name. Her full name is Princess Daisy Toadstool. Her nickname is Peach.
Which could be true. The Princess Daisy from Super Mario Land could be just another princess named Daisy (why not? We have over 30 Officer Jennys and Nurse Joys!). But "Peach" isn't her nickname. It's her name in Japan (Which they've been using lately now instead of "Toadstool". Meh).

It seems that often the reps are misinformed. Ah, well.

Seraph - well, Mario Kart and F-Zero were compeltely new. Well, sorta. Mario Kart: Super Circuit had all new tracks, with the SNES tracks hidden. And I'm not saying porting is a bad thing. Heck, America FINALLY got a version of Megaman & B***. It's just I'd like to see more original games come from Nintendo. Though, the modifications made to later Mario Advances have made them worthy of playing again (Yoshi's Island had 6 new levels. All of which were really neat). SMB3 shows promise, too.

I agree - they've been remaking games to fit the GBA, and quite a few of my friends aren't buying them mainly because they are remakes. They played it and finished it years ago, why do it again now?
Hopefully they'll find some new blood and start making great original games more than making ports.
*watches as Nintendo dresses up like a vampire*

Well, you CAN hook an e-Reader up to a SP, and it'll work just fine. The link port sticks out onto the control face, since the link port on the SP is all the way around in the back, so I don't think you can use the SP for sending info from an e-Reader to another game. So, if you want to hook the e-Reader to a game and send data over, make sure you have a regular GBA...

Man, Nintendo is getting ALL my money...

I'm getting a SP in the next 2 weeks, I got my e-reader, so when I get this game, I could play the extra levels.

You can hook up a GBASP with an e-Reader to another GBA, or even a Gamecube. Just plug the cable into the link cable port on the GBASP (not the e-Reader).
